Fact check!! Fact check like a motherfucker. You mugs just post any shit out of your ass. Or leave out the pertinent info so it fits your outrageous statements. I spend more time fact checking then posting. I read shit in here and I'm like WHAT!!! Fuck this fucker post?! Why debate anything with bullshit coming from all sides? And then when the facts come out, its just not believed or accepted. Nobody concedes the point. Too many half truths and made up shit. As my boys in Public Enemy said... Don't believe the hype!
Far too many are simply more interested in furthering a specific narrative than in what's actually true.
That sounds good in theory, but it's hard to know any more. Should you check the facts, or the alternate facts?
You're probably right. But I read on the internet that the moon is made of green cheese, so it must be true.
Anyone remember that time @Ron Paul went all Liam Neeson on @Lt. Mewa ? The fucker traveled to NYC and vowed to hunt Mewa down. I think he even posted pics here of him standing outside various buildings in lower Manhattan. "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you."
It's gratifying to see Barack Obama concurring so closely with Lt. Mewa .... But one of the problems with this-here internet is that it provides any dingbat with a soapbox from which to spout gibberish, and the resulting url can be plunked anywhere as a source. Of course, in pre-internet days, propaganda was in the hands of the influential. But just the fact that there were so many fewer sources made it easier to get your bearings and check what They said against your personal experience. Which is always the Gold Standard for judgement. Far be it from me (I maintain) to state a falsehood as truth. But the world is a complicated place, with many shades of grey. And even sincere personal memory is a minefield, as demonstrated in courtrooms every day. Lt. Mewa is absolutely right that --- if we take ourselves at all seriously --- we need to double- and triple-check our facts, that is, the best we're able to with nearly-always second-hand information. But life is short, and you can't spend half of it sifting.
Yeah, yeah, I slipped up with the Anne Coulter saying "14!", thing, but at least I didn't post fucking Pizzagate.
What I find is people posting pieces of the real story. Molding it to fit the scenario they want to create. For example, a few people have posted about things that Obama did that were supposedly the same as some of Trumps actions. But if you look closer, Obama's actions were quite different. An in some cases the facts are presented and the offending poster says..."Yeah, but....(bs and more bs)"
IOW, you are finding people thinking like people. There is a reason I take a dim view of people's desire for "truth." The overwhelming majority of people do not want "truth." They want confirmation of their own personal worldview. People cannot know reality. The most informed people are still ignorant of over 99.999% of what is going on even right here on Earth, without even taking into account the fact that none of us have anything more than the slightest glimmer of what might be happening on untold billions of other planets in the untold billions of galaxies out there. When you have to "think" on the basis of such woefully incomplete data (much of which is erroneous, often deliberately), you work out a simple -- and necessarily simplistic -- concept of what "reality" is like. Any "facts" that contradict that concept are thus threatening and must be rejected if at all possible. On the other hand, any "facts" which seem to confirm that worldview are very welcome, and little attention is often paid to how rigorous is the process by which they have been derived. If you want a "fact" to be true, you will accept it with incomparably less scrutiny than if you don't want it to be true. That's just the way people are and have always been. The only difference the internet makes is that that woeful lack of intellectual rigor is now much more publicly displayed. The quote from John Lawton in my signature is from 1995. If he said that then, what must he be thinking now?
Therefore Bronze Age Myths are true!! If you didn't see that coming, pull your computer over to the side of the road, and take a nap.
Of course I saw it coming. You are thoroughly predictable. Because you are also absolutely prone to believing what fits your worldview, no matter how little evidence there is for it, and rejecting what doesn't fit, no matter how what kind of backing there is for it.
*Looks at my monitor, taps it to make sure it's real* Yep, science makes real technologies that work.... *Looks around for Bible based machines* Nope.
^ A perfect example of how people accept simplistic arguments that have little or no logical validity, as long as they seem to confirm the worldview they want. Thank you. I couldn't have done it better myself.
No, I said that I knew where you lived, because you had posted a picture of it, @Lt. Mewa I then posted a picture of myself at the NBC building because that is a big landmark that lots of people live. I knew you worked there in a bank, as you've claimed that, but I made no effort to find you. I did not want to find you, so I didn't.
Thank you, @Ron Paul, for providing us with an excellent example of “alternative truth,” because those of us who were here at the time remember what you actually did. That you’re trying to paint yourself as some sort of innocent now is typical.
What you have are people who are cynically exploiting the public's lack of interest or ability to research issues for themselves. The Right simply fabricates their own self-serving "alternative facts," while the Left ignores the facts that get in the way of their PC narratives. It's really disturbing when you think about it - there is no source of news & info that's free from ideological and corporate bias.
This. Nevertheless, real facts can be found. I remember when we used to back up OP's with multiple links to credible info.
He’s had this years-long love-hate relationship with a poster named Margaret who’s never done him any harm. The logical conclusion is that there’s a woman in his past (probably his mom because, well, yanno, it’s Flasher, and women IRL run screaming) who abused him horribly. The mere name is a trigger for him, but he can’t seem to stop evoking her. I hope he’s getting help. Or at least that he has a safe space to cower in. Just watch how he reacts to this post.
