    In re: The OP, conservatives care about Israel because Israel has been an ally for generations, we have a great deal in common with them as far as culture and human rights, and they serve an important strategic interest for us in an unstable and important part of the world.

    Perhaps a better question is: Why are so many Jews staunch Democrats?:marathon:

    Because 90% of Democrats are pro-Israel too. The only people in the U.S.who aren't generally pro-Israel are the ones who consider the Democratic party to be too conservative.

    Also: Identifying with and broadly supporting Israel doesn't mean agreeing about Israeli politics with every other supporter of Israel. Most of the American liberal Jewish people I know have strong opinions about Israeli politics, strongly dislike the Likud, and were very upset when Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated.
