http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=8313703#Post8313703 ....well, Ted? While we're at it, what do the rest of you think about legalizing prostitution?
I dunno, I'm torn on it these days. I mean, yeah, in general principle, it should be legal. But, I always envisioned these skanky little runaways, and bubbly Bunny Ranch babes getting into it, y'know? But, I saw this PBS thing on how Russia has become such a hellhole, normal women are having to do it to put food on their table, and they focused on this single mom who was desperately trying to get a real job so she would never have to turn tricks again, and it ended sadly with her not getting the job, and being suicidally depressed over having to turn more tricks. Real gut punch, y'know? I guess we live in a well off enough country where such things don't go on much, but it took my rose tinted glasses off about the whole thing.
If wanting prostitution legal is creepy, almost every man on this board is the next Charles Manson. And why? Probably the same reason I do...it's none of anyone's business what a person does with their body that doesn't hurt someone else. So I think prostitution should be legal....time to lock the doors everyone...I am coming to rape and kill you.
I agree up to a point... but at the same time we don't allow organ trafficking, because we recognize the huge potential for abuse. We just know that poor, desperate people are going to end up being taken advantage of. That's how I view outlawing prostitution. It's a refusal to legitimize the exploitation of people in desperate situations. And while most men might say it's an issue of freedom, their answer changes if you ask about the possibility of their sisters or daughters selling themselve. I think most men have that image of the "happy hooker," in their minds. I used to as well, until I lived right off a hooker stroll for a couple years. Walking by real hookers on your way home from work every night kills the fantasy pretty fast.
You are awesome. Uh, I mean, bad Ted! Bad! How dare you want whatever it is you're wanting! You should be ashamed/reflecting on the words/deeds that you have said/done to posters/anonymous hookers! I am seriously outraged/turned on by this whole topic, quite frankly, people/bitches! J.
I know, I was going to respond to his points in the TNZ thread, until I noticed he wasn't actually making any points himself. Also, if he really didn't thnk there was anything wrong with it, why wouldn't he start the same thread here? (I know, because some people are assholes who'll pounce on it, but that doesn't stop him the rest of the time.) Besides, I hardly post in TNZ anymore, so this saves me having to check two boards in the morning.
Prostitution should be legal. It's a woman's body, and if she's legal, she can do what she wish. Whoring's the world's oldest profession, after all.
Well, the counter argument to that is: 1. what legal thing would a woman in the same perdicerment do if whoring wasn't legal? and 2 if she's past the point of doing a legal thing, then she's gonna hook anyway and not only be a broke desperate woman who's deprested...but also a criminal - how does this make her situation better?
Yeah, this is about debate. The poll begs to differ. Thinking prostitution should be legal isn't inherently creepy...even if he believes it because he wants to buy some sex. This is just another tired excuse to pile on Ted. It's dull and transparent.
AH, but not every prostitute is a streetwalker and contrary to the image, some women choose "escorting" and enjoy it. One could still have street prostitution illegal on public safety grounds and yet allow other sorts.
So why aren't all American whores on welfare instead? In point of fact, for the street whore, she probably IS. AND hooks.
The poll was to make it Red Room-ier. I previewed the OP, and it looked unimpressive all by itself. Besides, I have a feeling almost everyone is going to side with Ted on this one, so it'll probably end up making him look good/normal/sensible, and making me look like a backwards prude. He can thank me later.
Isn't that basically what we have now, with "escort services?" It's not optimal, but it's a compromise I can live with.
No, it kind of makes you look like someone hopping on the bandwagon to get in with the cool kids. There are other ways to make it more red room without resorting to much overused trolls/labels for Ted. And I say this as someone who took hell last year for calling him out for his shit last year.
All I gotta say is, after a hard day at work, I can stop off at the store on the way home and pick up a six pack. Then I can call up the pizza place and have a pizza delivered. If I further wanted to unwind, I could probably call up a massage place and have someone show up and give me a massage. Why the Hell shouldn't I be able to get on the phone and have someone send over a girl to give me a blowjob? That would be perfect. The only challenge would be working out the logistics so that the pizza dude showed up before the bj girl. Shit. There should be a place that has pizza delivery AND blowjobs! AND they should be able to stop off and pick up a six pack on the way. AND they should have online ordering. You log on around 4:30, before leaving work, pick out your pizza, pick out your beer, pick out your delivery girl, and schedule what time you want them to show up! GENIUS! My God. Can you imagine if they also rented DVDs? How amazing would that be? You get home from work, the doorbell rings, and there's a hot girl there with a six pack of Fat Tire, a Supreme Pizza, and a copy of "Die Hard". You pop in the DVD, crack open a beer, and plop down on the couch with your pizza. The movie starts, you take a bite of pizza, chase it with a swig of beer, and she breaks out the kneepads. The only flaw in the plan is that the movie is two hours. So you're going to have to drop it off on the way to work the next day. Unless... the movie comes with a little envelope and you can mail it back. Shit. That's so crazy it just might work.
Why in the world would you want to be distracted during oral sex? Unless you are expecting a lousy blow job. The most you should manage is barely registering a porno playing in the background...not watching a regular movie, eating and drinking.
Come on D, YOU pay attention....nowhere do I say that's what you are arguing....I was only saying that the counterpoint to the "poor suffering poor woman" that affected you is not, as some would suggest, prohibition. I don't believe you inferred that nor did i imply you did.
That reminds me of a move I saw some years ago where this guy was having sex with this woman and she's so bored, she starts snacking on some strawberries. Even at ten years old and my fairly limited knowledge on sex, I knew something about that was really, really not right.
See, that there is the difference between men and women. That's why we, being the superior species, are able to simultaneously watch at least three shows--while maintaining an awareness of what's on at least ten other channels, while you women can only manage to watch Lifetime. Pizza is good. Beer is good. Blowjobs are good. And movies are good. Combine all four and you achieve a level of amazing that blows the mind. It's like a three-ring circus. Or a kid in a candy store. Or an Irish Setter that's been locked in the house all day, turned loose in a park full of squirrels.
I probably shouldn't admit to knowing this, but I know for a fact that Independent Escorts go to considerable trouble to avoid being trapped by an LE sting. Various Law Enforcment agencies DO invest resources in catching Escorts, independent and agency, in prostitution.
This is a particularly stupid argument. You are confusing two very different things, as if they contradicted each other. Do I think smoking should be legal? Yes. Would I want my sister or daughter (or anyone else) doing it? No. That in no way takes anything away from my conviction that it should be legal. Do I think divorce should be legal? Yes. Would I want my sister or daughter getting divorced? No. That in no way takes anything away from my conviction that it should be legal. Do I think adultery should be legal? Yes. Would I want my sister or daughter doing it? No. That in no way takes anything away from my conviction that it should be legal. Do I think being a socialist should be legal? Yes. Would I want my sister or daughter to be a socialist? (As if there was any chance of that...) No. That in no way takes anything away from my conviction that it should be legal. Need I add to the list? Your post deliberately confuses what people think should be legal with what they think is desirable, and implies that because people do not think something is desirable, they don't "really" think it should be legal. That is nonsense. Lots of people are rational enough to realize that a lot of stuff they personally don't like at all should be legal. I think prostitution is bad. I have ethical problems with it even for those who enjoy it, and even more ethical problems with those who do not enjoy it but resort to it because of severe economic difficulties. That is not at all the same thing as saying it should not be legal. What should be illegal, however, is forcing girls into prostitution against their wishes, something that happens more than a lot of people like to think. And it is the difficulty in determining just when that happens that makes the legalization of prostitution problematic.
You know, you made your point (quite well) with the first couple of examples. You didn't need to break out four. This'a sum uppa you problem, I think.
