How am I supposed to prove that not everyone knew that Trump is corrupt, that would require me talking to every human being on the planet, including babies who can't talk. What you're asking for is unreasonable.

if you truly believed this, you'd have an inspirational poster of my face on your wall.

of course if I (or anyone else, for that matter) enumerated any of those achievements/experiences, you'd just call it virtue signalling or something else otherwise meaningless and dismissive.

So, no... I suspect you're fulla shit on this.

that you see a bit of deprecation (wherein the characters are frequently in on the joke anyways) as "emasculating" says a LOT more about you than you'd like.

I'd also advise you not to read Lokasenna and how Thor is portrayed in actual Norse mythology...

The rest of it is also ridiculously subjective to your own insecurity.

There's nothing you can do to earn UA's respect.
    Nothing.
FF licks his boots on occasion, and gets kicked in the face for his trouble.
Hacky edgelord comedians and/or Twitter trolls make him happy for a bit, but I wouldn't necessarily call that respect.
I haven't seen anyone he wouldn't turn on on a dime, including lovers.

    Face it, it's only himself.
Textbook mirror kisser through and through.

not sure if I've ever seen him trying to be funny?
I mean, he is on occasion hilarious, but that seems unintended.

I know there's the occasional implication that he's just playing us, but to be believable we'd need to actually see the capacity for different behavior.

I'm sticking with the leaded paint theory.

Maybe you'll surprise me and give a meaningful response to each of these followup questions but tend to doubt it:

    1. Define your term of "Mary Sue." If you mean "powerful hero" who succeeds where others don't have a shot, in what way is Rey any more of a Mary Sue than Luke Skywalker? In what way does the sequel trilogy emasculate -- I'm not sure if you're referring to Poe or Finn as the "male hero" here? How is that different from the treatment of, say, Han or Lando in the original trilogy?

    2. In what movie are you saying Indiana Jones was emasculated? Are you referring to the one that hasn't come out yet? If so, what makes you think that he is emasculated, other than he has a young woman who is his sidekick?

    3. In what way(s) has Nick Fury been emasculated in Secret Invasion? Is it because he's roughly 70 now in the show and he is being told that he's not up to a massive war led by militant shapeshifters.

    4. Others have asked, but how has Pike been emasculated in SNW?

    5. In which movie or movies has James Bond been emasculated, and how?

    6. We've gone over it a number times in the Discovery forum, but in what way is Burnham any more of a Mary Sue than any other Star Trek show protagonist?

    7. Who exactly is teaching kids that they are privileged because of the color of their skin? If anything, what you call wokeism attempts to undo the implication that kids of color or women or gays or people of other groups might otherwise get that because they aren't often shown as heroes in older media, they are less than, and it tries to undo the implication that because they are born white or male or straight or into a Christian home that they are better than.

    8. No one is trying to teach that the literal founding of the U.S. was 1619, because it obviously wasn't. However, people are trying to teach that 1619 and the introduction of slavery to the new world did shape America and our present. This seems undeniable. But do you deny this? Don't wait for the translation. Answer me now!

A while back I mentioned to my oldest daughter that with people of color and non-hetero people appearing so often these days in commercials than they used to, that I imagined that there were people who, when seeing a Black actress pitching laundry detergent, were probably saying, "What? They couldn't get a white girl for this commercial?"

I suspect FF bitches about that.

Someday, in the future, they may even have a commercial featuring a man doing laundry.

    1. This has been discussed for nearly a decade now.
    Mar·y Sue
    noun
noun: Mary Sue; plural noun: Mary Sues
(originally in fan fiction) a type of female character who is depicted as unrealistically lacking in flaws or weaknesses.

Rey knowing how to fly the Falcon off the bat. Knowing how to use the force from the get go. Yes, I'll grant that the force was reawakening, but even so, force users have to be trained to do things like a Jedi mind trick. Now you could argue that Rey had heard rumors that Jedi could do things like that, but that undermines the idea that it's a mind trick therefore you don't realize it's happening to you. Watto knew about Jedi mind tricks, you might say. Yes, but that was in the prequel era when Jedi were more prevalent. At this point in time, the Jedi have been wiped out and nobody has seen one in what, fifty years? So at best she would have heard rumors of the Jedi and using the force takes concentration and training. Rey is a scavenger who's been surviving on her own for roughly a decade. How does she know these things? Rey also fixes the Falcon when Han couldn't, how does she know this How come Han didn't know this, it was his ship for a number of years and Han has been shown to have extensive knowledge of the Falcon and has been shown making repairs.

Luke Skywalker is shown being able to fix droids. He's integral to Owen's farm and we can presume Luke has been taught his skills from Owen. When he's training with Obiwan, he's not a great swordsman. He has to learn his skills from Yoda. He struggles along his journey. Rey on the other hand beats Kylo, then proceeds to almost beat Luke with zero training. Even Snoke says,"You were bested by a girl who had never wielded a lightsaber in her life."

Luke proves his skills to Han throughout ANH. Rey beats up men twice her size. How did she do that, where did she learn those skills? Rey also overpowers Kylo during the interrogation scene. Again, a skill you have to learn and Kylo was trained by Luke and Snoke and Darth Vader is his grandfather. Darth Vader, the most powerful Jedi ever. Luke had to be guided by Obiwan in order to use the force and that was only during the trench run.

    2. Apparently the rumors of the ending of Dial of Destiny are true. It basically tuns Indiana Jones into a pathetic old man who's basically lost all hope of living and is no longer a hero and learned nothing from the previous movies.

    3. Yes, so far they're trying to make him a useless old man. Never mind the fact that he's the one that brought the Avengers together in the first place, but Disney can no longer show a man in any positive light.

    4. Not so much in SNW, but in DSC his authority was challenged several times by women throughout that season. Then in the first episode of this season the tech guys come on board the ship to do repairs or updates on the Enterprise and the ladies gang up on them because they know better.

yet Luke hopping from a landspeeder and a planet skimmer prepared him to fly an X wing after a briefing? Not an hour earlier Han had been laughing at the notion of him even flying a starship of any sort.

Didn't Anakin say that machines "spoke" to him? Why couldn't Rey have that same innate ability? She can speak droid already, so talking to the Falcon (which is sentient FFS) shouldn't be hard. She's also been scavenging that tech all her life, so presumably has figured out how the principles of a lot of it work.

Rey's been sparring with a staff/spear for years... unlike Luke or Anakin, she has a lot of fighting experience.

Look, we could go on... but there's nothing in her pre TFA life that doesn't justify her having the basis of any skill she uses. Granted, she rolls a lot of 20s, but how much of that is because someone like Kylo Ren isn't taking her seriously and half asses it in the first place?

    5. It started with Goldeneye where M calls him a relic of the cold war and a womanize. Okay that's fine, you want to move away from the sexual harassing Bond that Connery depicted. But in this last movie Bond is being told he's too old and is being replaced by a black woman after retiring for the third time. Then he basically give up at the end and dies. Now they're talking about having a female Bond because we can't have positive male heroes anymore.

he's 82, FFS. I thought you worked in a nursing home? (with a subway kiosk, for some reason :P )

Another few years and it would be Young Indy in real time... and forgetting how they portrayed him at 90 is possibly Lucas' most fervent desire other than memory holing the holiday special.

he's in his 70s and hasn't really been on planet most of the time... shouldn't you be fretting over how Skrull Fury is being treated?

besides, I somehow doubt Secret Wars is going to leave him looking lame... that's not how hero's journey formulas work.

oh no... women challenge his authoritah! ( I think now we've seen the root of your issue). The fact that they were right and had more experience than he did is irrelevant.

you mean the hands on pilot with major combat experience didn't want her customs restored to default by some dude who's never been out of the solar system, let alone piloted?

Dude... you're really jsut proving the point that you're given to misogyny now.

Here’s an idea. Pretend like those characters are men. I mean, really. Picture it in your head. That same character saying those same things, but a man. Does it still bother you? If so, you might want to go back and watch every move or tv show since the beginning of time.

They were just doing their job. They weren't there to mess anything up and presumably they were under orders to do so. They're not there just to purposely fuck with them. Kirk didn't tell Daystrom to fuck off when they wanted to test M5, he complied and acted professional. How do you know these guys have never left the solar system or piloted? Maybe that's why they are there because they in fact do possess skills beyond Uhura's experience. Uhura is an ensign is she not? She should be obeying god damned orders and respecting the chain of command.

If the health inspector comes to my work and wants to take a look around I don't get to say no. If they tell me I have to change something or fix something, I don't get to say no to them.

    Holy shit. Fragility, much?

Of course his authority was challenged several times. That makes good drama. Were Picard, Riker and even Data "emasculated" every time Worf challenged their decisions on TNG? Was Spock when McCoy let him have it in "The Tholian Web"? Was it a gender-based slight against Janeway when Chakotay pushed her to make a Maquis the chief engineer?

And really, that was your takeaway from Uhura and Ortegas snarking at the Starfleet inspectors in SNW 2x01? Uhura's basically acting like Scotty, and Ortegas is a hotshot pilot in the mold of Tom Paris. The sheer amount of fragility (and/or desperate need to be offended) that it would take to watch that scene and immediately go "THIS IS INTENDED TO PUT DOWN MEN!!!" is staggering.
