I think maybe we all need to be more mindful of posting which we're talking about, climate change/global warming, or human-caused climate change/global warming. The shorthand terms have us misunderstanding each other all too often.
1) How do you know they are not? 2) Just showing that planets will change at their own will, regardless.
Did you even read his link? It was from a NASA blog, and it said that there are more dark spots on Mars than before, which would, by themselves tend to contribute toward a temperature increase. It made no statement that temperatures on Mars had increased.
I have, and it says its impossible for it not to snow, unless temperatures are that extreme, which they are never on this planet.
Except the very first paragraph For the past 30 years, NASA scientists have been using high-tech satellite equipment to study features on the face of Mars. It appears a slight change in the planet’s surface luster has caused its temperature to rise. http://www.nasa.gov/centers/ames/research/2007/marswarming.html
The hell should I know?! Paladin says you might be saying solar winds only affect Mars but not Earth. Suit yourself. I'm happy to look at Mars to find out stuff. I'm not going to look at Mars only to conclude that we cannot understand what's going on. That leads to the Middle Ages.
Mine are from Feb 2008 and studies released in April 2008 (the articles are May 2008). Yep, that's what my sources say too, which I included - that only the antarctic peninsula is shown as warming. The other 85% of the arctic is shown as cooling. If you'll notice there's no direct correlation between the temperature variation and where new ice is forming. Also if you'll remember from my more recent links that the past 30 years shows temperatures decreasing, not increasing, in the arctic. And of course the same predictions that expected more snowfall also expected temperature variances up to 5 times higher than we actually got. Occam's razor points out that the simplest explanation is that considering most of the antarctic is getting colder or staying the same, that increased ice mass throughout the entire continent can't be explained by a small area getting warmer. Either way, the single biggest alarm factor in global warming is sea levels rising due to the antarctic ice melting. The fact that ice levels are rising contradicts this.
Didn't see that. The data set I did find shows "over the last decade the temperatures were about 1.0ºC above the 20th century average" in the Arctic. http://maps.grida.no/go/graphic/trends-in-arctic-temperature-1880-2006
"It" says, does "it"? While it never becomes impossible, you get less snowfall the colder it gets. Ergo the warming of the Antacrtic has produced more snow. Ergo your argument is wrong. The blog post says "It appears" and "may have caused". Such conditional statements on a blog are not the results of scientific research. Of course, this has nothing at all to do with global warming on earth. That phenomenon is local to Mars. The argument normally used is that increased heat from the sun is causing warming in both places.
Snow gets less the colder it gets. Anybody who lives in areas where snow is common knows this. "Impossible" doesn't figure into it.
Sorry, it should have read 'antarctic.' We were discussing the South Pole, not the North. There is significant melting on the North Pole, but it doesn't matter as much, as that ice is already in the water therefore there isn't any additional displacement. Also they've confirmed studies that soot from the new coal stations and factories coming online in India and China have a significant affect on melting in the Arctic - the black particles absorb heat far better than the reflective white surface. So the melting up there is due to pollution, but a good chunk of it (25-50% IIRC) is not due to warmer temperatures or CO2.
Global Warming isn't even relevant in the "big picture". Everything civilization does has to be squeezed in between the inevitable ice ages anyway. It's only a matter of time (warming or cooling) before a major climate change will cause mass extinctions just like has always been happening to this world. Whether it's another ice age, a killer comet, an unstoppable virus (not climate change, but still wipes out a lot of species perhaps) etc. etc.
so if we hasten climate change, no worries because it would happen anyway in 10,000 years or so. ok, you convinced me!
