Ghetto culture breeds people who grow up to be worthless. That's why folks are always so happy when someone escapes. What's hard about that?
Based on my meetings today, nothing. At least nothing that any judge will listen too. Everything went well today. I explained what happened, and why I fired him, and pointed out that at the end of the day, given the dangerous nature of our job, I'm just making sure that the people I'm responsible for are able to go home. We've had serious injuries before because of stupidity, so I wanted to do all I could to make sure it doesn't happen again. Vestas brought 3 lawyers in from Calgary, and we went through everything. I'm impressed by how detailed they were about every incident. I even had to explain in detail how I got the job, the reaction of the people around me given that I'm years younger than most, and how I've progressed through the ranks. They said that they'll talk to the head honcho in Calgary, who I know, and who personally called me after hearing about it to say that whatever happens, I still have my job.....and if he's happy, they're happy, and I have nothing to worry about. Should find out tomorrow.
I honestly don't know. I can point to the culture that is breed into them from living on the reserve, but its not as simple as abolishing all the reserves and presto, your problem is solved. I think overall we're dealing with 100s of years of inept and stupidity that has created such massive fuckup, that I'm just glad I'm not the one that has to deal with it. And apparently, the government doesn't give a damn, and even worse, the elders of each reserve don't give a damn either. As long as they're making lots of money they don't give a shit if their crime rate is through the roof.
Yeah, I was informed today that if the stupidity of the native board continues, I could legally sue them, and more than likely win. *evil smile*
That's right. You keep saying that's racist - but don't change anything! Lawdy naw! You keep talkin bout da man keepin you down - but don't change anything!
Hooray for Azure. He is now a full fledged BIG BOY in the corporate world. He had to TALK TO SOME LAWYERS. I should have posted my stories back in the days. Its par for the course in most big businesses. Somebody wants to sue...they send some lawyers to talk to all involved. After today they will probably not ever talk to him again about this case. Go have a beer and try to find some hot chick who wants to hear this whole boring story.
Realize that I'm not the one making it a 'native' issue. I hire native workers all the time, and have recommended numerous kids I went to school with for different jobs that come up. The native board is the one making it a race issue. And yes Garamet, I do realize what you're saying in regards to how natives were treated for many years. I do still call it to this day one of the greatest fuckups in Canada. Maybe even worse than the Japanese internment, considering that was actually solved. This problem with the natives still exists.
Considering that I think Archie Bunker helped to positively change the consciousness of the country, I'll take that as a compliment.
Azure had better hope that none of the lawyers he's talking about ever finds this thread because his ass will be in a sling if that happens.
In business if you are in a position to hire or fire people, there will be the chance that a person is unhappy about their firing. They could even be simply laid off. If the person is unhappy about this they might try to sue. The first thing that is done is that they bring in lawyers or legal aides to interview all involved. Though I wasn't a boss, I have had to speak to lawyers concerning lawsuits bought against the bank by various individuals in the past. If there is an actual case that goes to court it will be way down the line. Months or years from now. The odds are that tey will settle cuz its cheaper. They don't care about proving points or making some grand stand. WHATEVER IS CHEAPER to end it.
I actually think they will solve it outside of court as well. Like Scorp said, chances are the Native Board is only using this 'issue' as a way to swindle more money out of Vestas. Without actually having to pay for court costs, or pay for Vestas court costs if they lose. In the end, it'll be a learning experience for me. Most of this work of managing people and being responsible and in charge of jobs, equipment, being in charge of hiring people, and firing them....its all new to me. Sure, I have a great boss, but I gotta make my own decisions.
You do realize that I had to explain everything to the lawyers? Including Vestas relationship with the Peigan Board, which isn't that great? The board has a problem with Vestas, not me. I was only brought in by Vestas lawyers to explain what happened. They also talked to the other 20 people on my crew, not too mention every other person from the local Vestas office. For some reason, the person I fired never mentioned that I fired him. Probably because in the end my boss has to approve it anyways. He just always gives me the benefit of the doubt. So, if they wanted an official paper trail, it would end with my boss, not me.
If this is a currently ongoing legal issue it is a good idea for you to be discussing it in an open forum?
"I don't think Elvis was racist. He had some black cooks at Graceland. He was friends with Sammy Davis Jr."
If my condition of "labor in whatever manner you are able in order to earn your keep" excludes everyone, that's their problem, not mine.
Usually, you do get promoted. And if you don't, look somewhere else for a job. I think we all know who is living in the fantasy world here. Hard work usually does pay off. As does dedication and applying yourself to be a better worker.
Tell me then. If they work really hard....how many of your crew can be promoted to your job while you are there? Also, how many hard workers have you promoted?
Not everybody who works hard gets promoted, and not everybody who gets promoted works hard. Usually, some vice-president's nephew gets the promotion. Or some lazy incompetent skilled at office politics and ass-kissing weasels her way into a management position and brings along a gaggle of lazy incompetent friends. Or they get rid of you and hire a bunch of temps, then get rid of the temps because some vice-president's nephew needs a summer job. Or you work hard, get promoted, then spend all your time trying to stay awake in meetings the purpose of which seems to be to generate cutting-edge procedures to make it harder for the workers in the trenches to do their fucking jobs. None of that is to say you shouldn't work hard, just that hard work in itself is not a magic ticket to fame and fortune. Also, you should save your hardest work for endeavors you choose yourself to care about, rather than wasting it on people who don't appreciate it, such as most employers.
