Merriam Webster defines a fool (when applied to a person) as: - a person lacking in judgment or prudence - a harmlessly deranged person or one lacking in common powers of understanding
Dayton, would you care to remind us why you were banned from other boards? Could it be that they thought you were trolling? Like I said above, you come in here and deliberately post repugnant views, knowing full damn well most don't here don't subscribe to your warped view of the world. You then whine and complain about the response you get. You yourself have openly admitted you try and uses rules and mods against people. The mods have told you the deal here on more than one occasion. They even told you to stop abusing the report function. You, in response, stick your middle finger up to them and carry on with trolling with these views come what may. You then still expect their sympathy and start mashing the hell out of the report button. As I have told you many times actions have consequences, and you might want to consider that there are only so many times mods will come to your defence if they see you pulling the same shit over and over. A superior human being like you should know that.
Because we aren't. If that were the case, you'd be banned and complaining about us at whatever other board will still have you. Pro tip -- don't expect protection from criticism when you enter a thread throwing out provocative statements. Tighter moderation would first focus on the provacateur. We prefer giving people some leeway as long as the overall topic remains intact, and conversation continues.
I tried to use the rules and mods against people more than a decade ago Why do you continue to whine about it at this point. Are rules only for protecting people with popular views? Simple question.
Anyway, to get back to the discussion. @Dayton3: I agree that an all male cast can exist in a successful show, and your examples are strong illustrations of the point. The same can be said for an all female cast (eg Golden Girls). But understand something. The make-up of the cast should first and foremost be determined by the purpose of the show. I'm sure you agree that the aforementioned Golden Girls would not work if their were men living in Blanche's house. It would hugely change the show's narrative. Likewise, the Trek narrative would hugely change if the ships were crewed by a bunch of people who look like you. You are arguing that Trek would be better if it were less like Trek. That's not an argument you can win on a board full of hardcore Trek nerds. Is this really a hill you want to die on?
As someone who's listened to a number of SF serials produced in the '50s, as well as read novels by Heinlein, Asimov, and others, written in that era, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Many of them thought that it was perfectly acceptable for women to be in combat and/or be considered to be the equal of men.
Ah shit, that made me spit out my chicken soup. It raises a legitimate question though. Would @Dayton3 be happy with an all Pakled crew if they were all male?
That's not really what I mean. I meant general social views, not those with sci-fi at the time. Back then it wasn't that surprising for men to have a certain view of women's place in the world and Dayton's remarks would not have been that unexpected. But in the 21st Century, to say that women on TV should be marginalised is most certainly a dated attitude.
I just wanted to make sure that it was pointed out that even in the '50s there were plenty of people who'd have disagreed with Dayton.
Why do you just ignore what is said to you and then ask questions that clearly have already been answered? Nobody "whines" about anything. It doesn't matter how long ago you said something like that, the mods clearly must always keep it at the back of their minds. What's more, you have stated much more recently that you're prepared to do whatever it takes to win over another and you were even boasting recently about how you thought you were clever to escape punishment for criminal acts. So the mods clearly have no reason to believe you don't still hold onto those views (and frankly, neither do I).
And you'd still be considered behind the times if something like the internet and this message board existed back then.
There were plenty of people who disagreed with Dayton on things in the 18th Century! Let alone the 1950s!
Dude.... the theme music is from one of my favorite movies, "Dune", the 1984 version. Yeah I know it's considered to be a terrible film, but I still love it.
