Well shit, I was really hoping for an anthology series, it would be perfect for Star Trek. It's not set after TUC, so after VOY?
We've had white male captains. Lots of them. You are arguing, apparently, for ONLY white male captains. As for the 3% - how many named characters have appeared in the 700+ filmed episodes? How many were known to be other than perfectly straight? if there were, on average, 5 guest actors in each episode, plus regular and semi regular cast, then you'd be in the area of 4,000 characters. At 3%, assuming even distribution and representation, you'd need at least 100 LGB/T characters. Can you name even 10? 5?
TNG still holds up, the first two seasons aside. Even when they were the only game in town, everyone involved including Rick Berman, had enough pride to pull their heads out of their collective asses once Gene Roddenberry and the stranglehold he had on the show was released and still crafted decent to great stories despite the Kumbayaa Accords in place for the crew. I dunno where Dayton got the idea that the DS9 premise was basic, but the only thing that made the idea horrible to some fans initially was that it had never been done before. But the kickass writing is gaining the show the recognition it deserved 20 years ago but didn't get being the middle child to overachiever straight A student TNG and empty headed but bubbly cheerleader Voyager.* Because solid writing stands on its own, regardless of decade. *by that analogy, I guess that makes Enterprise the weird kid that sniffed glue but somehow manages to pull it together to become a use car salesman. Better than being the stripper like Voyager became
Have you watch TV lately? .....I'm seriously asking, cuz even the least serialized TV sitcom I can think of off the top of my head still has more continuity than most of the dramas I remember when I was growing up. Things come and go, but I don't see standalone series formatting coming back any more than I do shoulder pads, bell bottoms, or Bill Cosby's career.
Brent Spiner seems like a really interesting guy. Would like to see him at a con. I met Michael Dorn once at a convention and jokingly asked him, "Weren't you the guy in Rocky?" He seemed amused. Also met Armin Shimerman and Garrett Wang. Cool guy, even though his character sucked (I didn't say that of course, that'd be very impolite).
To hijack this, only slightly, I want to suggest that whenever someone meets an actor there's one question they need to put to that actor which will most assuredly make that actor beam with excitement and will reveal layers of their personality which few people know about: Robert Mitchum wanted more than anything to play Hamlet, but nobody would cast him in that part, since they didn't think he "fit." I'm sure every actor out there has a similar story.
I don't whine about rep when I come back and one of you idiots has neg repped a dozen of my posts. Why do you whine?
I'm not whining, I'm asking you why you disagree with me. Whining would be saying that you unjustly neg repped my post. Do you not understand the difference?
No. Of course not. The way I see it the rep function is simply a method of trolling other posters. I only use it in retaliation.
It is my understanding that using the rep icons doesn't count. Just as you can use the Go Fuck Yourself icon in Media Central while using it in a post is a rules violation. But if it bothers you go whining to the moderators.
What, you mean do what you do more than anyone else on this board? I guess that makes you one helluva "whiner".
I don't do that. I rarely contact the moderators as they are often the people I have complaints about.
Bullshit. They threatened to take away your report function you were using it so much. Then there's the fact that you self admitted use the report function to try and get other members in trouble. Plus there's your on board whining that all can see, such as your demands for no trolling in the Red Room and your use of your diary thread to complain about and insult other members....and if you send the mods half as as many whining PMs as you've sent me then I don't find your claims of not being a whiner very credible. Oh, and as for rep icons not counting. I think you're missing the point. It's not your use of the rep icon I'm pointing out. It's your admission that you personally use it with the express intention of trolling that is key. Not everyone who uses "GFY" or any of the others does so to troll. For instands, if I use "dumb" in Media Central I do so because I genuinely think the post is dumb, not as some petty swipe. But you've now made it clear that your sole objective in using the dumb rating in here is to try and get a reaction from others as a form of retaliation for whatever you perceive others to be doing to you. I just find it strange that you whine about trolling in the Red Room, yet come unto Media Central to self admittedly troll. In fact, I find it rather amusing.
Um yeah. Sure I do. If you start coming into these Trek threads spouting your racist and misogynistic garbage, you bet I'm going to think those opinions are dumb.
