This strikes me as one of those 'both things are true' moments.

Clearly the majority of people did not plan to attack the capitol.

And just as clearly there were groups that had made that priority, talked about it openly on the internet, and tried to goad the others along with them.

It seems very likely at this point that this included political operatives in the militia movement in conjunction with high ranking officials.

Yeah there is no way this was a mass planned attack. But it is clear that a small group did plan for the insurrection (who brings handcuffs?) and there are questions of how far the planning goes.

This is why the authorities collect evidence and each person is tried with their own lawyer and allowed to defend themselves.

Of course, I have tio wonder how many of these people chanted about locking up hillary without any evidence of a crime, on behalf of a lying ass orange cheeto. How many of them thought it was unfair the authorities had to make a case regarding an actual law she broke and how many of them cried it was unamarican not to just throw her in a dungeon. It is a good thing for the right we do not go by their rules of fascism.

This guy presumably possesses guns and certainly knows how to use them. We'll see how eager some Trumpista is to become the next Darwin Award candidate by attacking him. :corn:

I thought this guy was probably being held back by the investigation from getting out there and explaining why he did this. I believe he was acting professionally in waiting just like he acted professionally that day. I think he has held back so long and wants to explain what he feels, and was, a controlled and responsible use of force at a needed moment. He has been insulted and demonized by the right, and the right is a bunch of whiny pissbabies.

I am glad to hear his statement as to why he needed to use deadly force on the traitorous and violent people breaking down the door that day. AB needed to die, and his actions made the people waiting realize that the next person through that hole would be shot. That stopped their momentum because they could no long advance under any delusion they would not be the next one shot. That individual realization ended their advance. These were cowards who were finally presented with the reality they were going to get shot if they were the next one through that one man opening, and none of them were willing to take bullets for their bloodthirsty riot.

The one thing I hope for him is that he gets paid so he can do his best to be secure against the threat that will be coming for him, and I hope our nation helps to give him what security we can and allow him to live as comfortably as possible because he is a hero who who used deadly force when needed under control and without overreaction.

Woman running against AOC for the midterms was at the Capitol riot, streamed herself with a poster of Pelosi mocked up with fangs and tearing up the Constitution.

Just because the core group with detailed knowledge of the building did not share those plans with everyone involved, does not mean those people assembling in DC on Jan 6 did not know what was happening. They had fucking t-shirts made. They knew. Fucking liars. This is what it means to have no integrity. If you do something, fucking own it. If you're going to lie about it later, you shouldn't be doing it now.

A small number of people among many thousand had t-shirts made. That's not indicative of everyone being in on it.

Then you tell me why they were there. Why go to a trump “rally” when you know he’s saying shit like “they are stealing our democracy” then march down to the capitol and … what? Have a fucking picnic? Fuck off. They knew what they were up to and they need to own their idiocy.

The majority of people there were there for the rally - and the majority of them didn't break any laws. We don't have specific numbers, but it's quite clear from footage that most of them did not enter the capitol.

There were even people in the crowd captured on camera saying no one should be violent.

Stupid, yes, but that's not the same thing as being in on an organized attempt to overthrow the US government.

There were quite a few that clearly were, but you are doing guilt by association. That shit doesn't fly. I can call them out for being morons without lying and saying everyone there was in on a conspiracy. That's obviously not true.

In this case, yes, I do apply guilt by association. But, I’m not a judge and jury so save your moral outrage for someone else.
