Obviously it does depend on your personal style, and the needs of the "project" you are doing. I have seen helpdesk kjnowledgbase programs and ticketing systems operate on a twitter like medium and really enhance how things are done. I saw a few really good systems when I worked for IBM about 15-20 years ago which incorporated twitter style notifications through teams.

It obviously has uses in the professional and recreational world despite my huge abuse of it. It's functionality is basic which is why it is useful. I just cannot wade into that much stupid to create a proper filter because I am lazy and selfish without a need to do so. I also found facebook filtering to be similarly annoying and my evaluation is I did not get enough recreational joy from it to really use it. If I were still in the professional field I would be obligated to use tools like that because they do great for communication.

The problem becomes if I were to use it for professional purposes I would want more at this point. The lax moderation and certification of information makes it unreliable as a professional source. It might be a starting place, but that would be free fishing with ads or donations IMO. I would not pay for such a polluted data stream. For a professional system I would join a more privatized network similar to twitter with some real accountability with language and the spread of misinformation.

They fired another 4K people over the weekend. That’s like 90% of their workforce.

The desperate flailing continues as Musk babbles in a staff meeting about turning Twitter into, essentially, PayPal:

    https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/10/23452196/elon-musk-twitter-employee-meeting-q-and-a

Also, an exchange about paying Youtubers to put their content on Twitter, which ends with:

"Okay, collectively, you’ll do it. Great. Please do it. Let’s take action. I’m a big believer in having just a maniacal sense of urgency. So if you can do it after this meeting, I would do it after this meeting. Just a maniacal sense of urgency. Like, if you want to get stuff done, maniacal sense of urgency. Just go 'aah!' Hardcore!"

The latest one is Musk made a clearly incorrect technical statement on the platform, one of his lead developers pointed out that wasn't true and patiently walked him through the way the tech actually works, one of Musk's asshounds said 'Are you going to let him talk to you like that? I'd fire him', so Musk fired him over twitter.

Reports then came out that he did the same thing to multiple line developers the day before when they tried to explain to him things about the product that he didn't want to hear in an internal chat.

You couldn't destroy a company quicker if you tried.

I hear there are a lot of cryptobros needing jobs now that their apes and bitcoin investments all gone.

It was actually a bit of genius to pump and dump from a large pool of idiot elon cult members with his crypto scam, and then fire all those expensive twitter techs so that he can fill their roles with his cult slaves at a fraction of the cost at his next gigafactory.

In cult terms this is genius we haven't seen since LRH made the sea org. If only LRH had enough financial wisdom to have bought out Kools before forcing all scienos to smoke them he would have made so much more money. When the cult members try to escape from his gigafactories they will only have Teslas which are just going to drive them back to the factory. Their only communication will be through twitter, and that will be a private bubble which will control all their money.

We are not looking at this from the evil cult leader perspective. This is just how elon controls communication, housing, and transportation of his cult members. All the musk bros are going to buy into it.

    This will end well.

If Zuck wants to hedge his bets on the Metaverse he would do well to hire up all these folks and make a new Twitter.

The tech is relatively simple. It is the audience that made Twitter, Twitter. It shouldn’t be hard to create a platform for the audience to migrate to, especially as Twitter’s functionality continues to degrade.

MetaTwitter would have non of the tech debt, be fully scalable, already have moderation policies, etc etc.

It means 'I have to exploit my workforce to the maximum to leverage every ounce of profitability I can muster to deal with the consequences of my mismanagement of the brand and the horrific debt obligations I'm saddled with to acquire this tech company to assuage my massive ego and my tiny, tiny penis.'

In most jurisdictions you can't unilaterally change someone's employment contract. That won't end well for him.

I would have to agree that the next form the "twitter" style of communication takes will be formed on better tech and wisdom. Like how IPv6 still has not been implemented even though it is an expansion on the old IP system. If some crazy elon type were to get the rights to our present IP4 system and go crazy (I know that is really not possible) they would implement the next version and usurp them. However, it becomes a waiting game to actually go to the next version because there is no reason for the upgrade on much smaller systems.

Elon just gave a really good reason for the next evolution of twitter to come out now. Also, he is trapping his cult members into his new proprietary system that will cause them all be his slaves in the cult. Elon is doing what steve jobs always wanted to do. Steve Jobs was always a megalomaniacal fascist. Bill gates would make a shoddy product we all wanted to put in our body. Steve Jobs would have forcefully injected us with his apple nanomachines to be slaves to ios. I am so glad Jobs was dead before we all had to get the computer chip vaccine.

Instagram has a "notes" thing in the messaging area of the app now, I thought that was a trial run for some version of tweeting. :chris:

I keep hearing that, but I don't see any evidence for it. Twitter used to go down hard, all the time, and not in periods of particularly high traffic. Then, over like 2014-2018, it became rock solid. The core concept is certainly simple, but I don't think the tech is at all. If it was, Musk would probably be right to fire 80% of the staff. Mastodon servers, while having the same concept, but rather different tech, have been either unreachable, had to close sign-ups, been slow, or had to shell out for beefier servers in an unsustainable way for their owners. I'm not sure it can just be put back together again.

On the other hand without some of the legacy baggage of being an SMS-based service, maybe they can start at 2014 levels. It'd be interesting to see someone give it a real go, but I certainly wouldn't join Metatwitter.
