Why Is Ted Considered 'Creepy'? (and not the rest of us)

I've been wondering about something lately. When Ted said to Jenna "If I were near you, I'd definitely date you". Jenna thought it was creepy.

But I dunno, I think if I had said the same thing, I don't think I would have come off as being creepy. Sometimes, I'll flirt a bit with a girl here just to flatter her, or make her day, or if I think maybe she could use a laugh. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever 'creeped' a girl out since grade 3, when all the white girls had no idea who the slanty-eyed guy sitting in the corner was.

I am unsure of this, because as far as I know, I have never posted a pic of myself, yet on the rare occasions I say something, nobody ever says anything, but when Ted does it, he is considered 'creepy'. Unless they can feel my manly charms emanating from my words on the screen, why can some people get away with it, and others get labelled with the 'creepy' label?

So is this only because of Ted's appearance? Like, say, if Brad Pitt posted here, (or some guy that looked like him) and he said the same thing Ted says, would it have drawn such a negative reaction?

Is the thin line between flirtatiousness and stalkerishness not really set in place, but determined by a variety of factors?

Like I said in the 'cool' kids thread, type casting. Lot of other posters say creepy things but get away with it. Its all about the cool.

I think it's his overall body of work. The only other poster here who has said as many creepy things is storm, but we have reason to believe he is just bullshiting. Ted, on the other hand, seems legitimately unstable.

While I agree that I think Storm is just bullshitting, if I were an underage girl and an openly middle-aged guy was making so many innuendos towards me, I'd find that a little creepy, joking or not.

If Ted (And I haven't seen much of him) is really, seriously pursuing girls on this board...yeah, that's much worse, I think.

IMHO, something feels creepy if it is unwanted and has an underlying pressure and sincerity.

Other comments are made designed for fun, to get a :Poke: reaction or to show that you are the Smutmeister, and also depends on the person the comment is being made to.

I know it's "consensual", which is why I haven't been going out of my way to mention it. It bothers me, but since it doesn't bother Talkahono,

Not really my business, you know? She's a big girl now, not exactly legal, but a high school grad, so that's her choice as far as I'm concerned. The first guy I slept with was 23 and I was 16, which some might consider creepy, so I'll just hold my toungue, mostly, in regards to that situation.

Also, i think others have made accusations of Ted being a bit 'stalky'. Plus he did admit to rape fantasies.....

Whether something is creepy or not depends on who's on the other end of it, IMHO. TKO is obviously secure enough in herself to get the funny side of some of the things said around here. And while I'm very happily married, I'm also one of the biggest flirts on the planet, so the things that are said to me not only make me grin, some of them are downright flattering. :D
But if anyone feels uncomfortable with what's being posted or PM'd to them, they should ask the person to stop, and if that fails, contact a mod or admin.

Storm is also happily married, which legitimizes him somewhat. Ted, on the other hand, is a virgin who lives in his parents basement. I don't know how much that contributes to the creepiness but if I had to guess, I'd say . . . alot.

IMHO, Ted seems to have a style of self-expression that clashes a bit with other posters'.

Plus he may take his own thoughts on a subject a little more seriously than some of us take our own thoughts, or maybe he doesn't filter them the same way as some of us do. I dunno.

You just have to remember Tom Brady's three rules about dating vs sexual harassment.

    First, be handsome.
    Second, be attractive.
    Third, don't be unattractive.

That's the difference between creepy sexual harassment and the young lady gargling with your sperm. :)

I don't think people are creeped out by Ted for saying "I'd like to date you".

I think Ted creeps people out by saying stuff like "I want to eat your pussy. I want them to find us dead with my face in your crotch".

The reasons why Ted is the Grand Generalissimo of the Creepislovakian Army, is the once and future King of the Rapey McCreepypuffs...

    1. "Do you like rape fantasies?"
    2. "Sex with girls of any age should be legal, if she consents, even if she's nine."
    3. "No, seriously, do you like rape?"
    4. "Girls who dress sexy are asking to be raped."
    5. ANY thread about rape, there's a 90% chance Ted will come in there and blame the victim.

    The end.

Ted bothers me because he's obviously serious when he says things. He's told Jenna before that he'd die if she didn't like him, his computer wallpaper was her picture, and he'd definitely date her if he were closer. He doesn't know when to stop. He'll go on for a whole conversation.
Jenna never mentioned the whole death threat phrase until after she got mad and needed a weapon against the admins here. But Ted is a creep.

Anyway, more to the point, I'm not really bothered by Storm. I just can't see him being serious. I'm not flattered by what he says, but I'm not bothered because I see it as a bad joke.
I get extra rep, too.

Well, the other thing with the Storm/TKO business is that she's bigger than him.

I disagree that it's just about looks. I'm not Brad Pitt either but I'm not afraid of women - which is 9/10 of the struggle, right there.

Ted's problem is that he hates himself and there's nothing in the universe that can change that. Lord knows there's many people in here who've tried to talk to him...but that self-hate is immovable.

Simple fact is...he WANTS people to hate him.

As CD and a few others have said, Ted has a long history of saying and doing really creepy, over-the-line shit. He's cooled down quite a bit recently and started filtering what he says, but most of WF isn't going to give him an inch to fuck up.

It's definitely not about looks. Ted would still be creepy as hell even if he looked like Brad Pitt.

Then again, maybe if he looked like Brad Pitt, he wouldn't waste his time on internet girls.
