One of the primary reasons I enjoy shooting, that I got my Handgun Carry Permit, and that I study weapons and analyze my tactical situation everywhere I go is that I am, by nature, a protector. I love my family and I want them to be safe - and if they're not safe, I want to have the means to reverse that, quickly.. I'm guessing that many here have a similar outlook on life. We're not paranoid, because there really are a few lowlifes out to get us!

I hope this thread can be a resource to all who would be proactive enough to defend themselves.

I think the best way to start this off is with a discussion of the Cooper Color Code, which remains, in my opinion, the best way to train people in how to think about their tactical situations.

With that said, I just want to add one more thing in this preliminary post: People, get good, sturdy, bright, easy to carry flashlights. You can have all the firepower in the world at your disposal, but if you're in a building and the power goes out and you can't see, you're useless. Same thing at night. I carry on my belt a Sentinal PL1 LED It's bright and, very importantly, light and small enough to make carrying easy.

P.S. - let's keep this thread focused on bettering ourselves. We can have fun, but ultimately, this is a very serious topic.

What does "Watch your six" mean?

 

Picture yourself as the hour hand on a clock. Your bodies direction ("straight ahead") is 12 o'clock. Your immediate rear is six o'clock - "your six."

That's actually the exact opposite of what it means. For example, if I had been watching my six in that scenario, I would have run.

Col. Cooper, God rest his soul, was a mainstay of my reading growing up. September 26, 2006, was a tragic day for all of humanity.

 

Those remind me of those gay ass flashlights they wore on their arms on Voyager.

Also, I just had to buy a new copy of To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Speak the Truth since my last copy was loaned out and never returned.

 

That was a joke. I thought the ridiculous nature of that statement would give it away.

 

Col. Cooper had a lot of good ideas, just like his eventual contemporary Massad Ayoob, but neither wrote gospel. I get a kick out of people that worship them as gods.

However, some of their ideas just aren't practical, and like any responsible student, you pick and choose what works for you and discard the rest.
