Your question, and his answer to it, interest me very much. Not so much for the subject itself, but for the epistemology involved. From someone like Liet, who so regularly denounces in such strong and insulting terms people who believe things based on anything but empirical evidence, I will not be expecting pseudo-philosophical excuses like "It's obvious" or "Everyone knows it." It will be interesting to see what verifiable scientific studies have been done, under carefully controlled circumstances, to uphold that statement.
Just a little follow-up on my previous post, to show why I am particularly interested in Liet's response. According to this post, by his own definition, if he cannot back up his belief with hard evidence, it qualifies as a religion:
Liet's full of shit...again. Gays were one of the first groups to show an outbreak, but another group that also baffled doctors was why hemophiliacs were coming down with it right and left. Took us a while to make the connection to contaminated blood banks. Hell they spent the greater part of the 80s just trying to figure out what it was. Nobody even had a name for HIV/AIDS. Since then, we've managed to take a disease that was all but 100% fatal when it first hit, to a manageable condition today that can be held at bay for 40+ years after infection. Not too bad, might I say. Another note: HIV is a virus. To date, we have no way of killing viruses. We can slow them down but unlike bacterial infections, there isn't a pill that's gonna knock out a virus for good. Your immune system has to do that. You think they wouldn't LOVE to be able to kill off smallpox? (And I'm sure the Kennedy boys would really like a cure for herpes).
What does a U.S. Army-hating guy do when confronted with a soldier who doesn't want to serve because he'd be following the orders of an illegitimate president?
This 'Birther' shit was stale last year. Obama's the President and has satisfied the documentary requirements of the job; get over it. And the guy who disobeyed orders better get ready for new accommodations in Fort Leavenworth.
Obama should produce the live copy on the very last day of his 2nd term and flip them all the bird on the way out.
^ Oh, wow. Now we're turning into a leftist police state. Carnac the magnificent starts listing other failed socialistic dictatorships...
Showing up at a county courthouse with an AK-47 demonstrates clear intent to cause harm to public officials.
So let me get something straight: You're in favor of arresting someone because they might commit a crime ("caus[ing]harm to public officials") but you're opposed to arresting someone who IS committing a crime (being in the country illegally).
Bock agrees: Ever post shows which way he leans That I like illegal immigrants who bust their ass for next to nothing more than I like nut job southerners who show up at courthouses with AK's?
You're telling me something new here? It's a little early for popcorn but if you can keep this show going for a minute I'll go make up a batch. Care to go for the trifecta?
So that gives him what......6 years and change to put together a perfectly forged document, and to bribe everyone involved? I think he can pull that off.
Shoot, man. He's got time for another 3-4 Nobels plus a few Time MOYs to cap off autobiographies three and four as well.
He can. By the same token, tinfoil-helmeted skinhead dipshits can ignore the reams of evidence that the Holocaust took place. Anyone can ignore anything, really.
Meh. The guy seems like he really wanted out the Army. considering there is an already standing article in the military penal code on refusing orders from one's CIC, I'm not seeing the on this.
