Speaking of which, I was underwhelmed by Cap's costume. I wish they'd stuck closer to the iconic costume--gauntlets, buccaneer boots, ear holes in the cowl and actual wings on the cowl, among other things. Now I'll give them the benefit of the doubt--there may have been practical, good reasons that the classic costume wouldn't have worked--it may have looked silly IRL. Hell, it may very well be that you can't have a cowl that stays in place over someone's ears. The mail shirt coul very well look silly IRL too. But why change the sleeves? (Instead of being white between the glove and the shoulder, the blue extended to the gloves on the outside.) Why not put a star on the back? They should've stayed closer to the classic costume.
The problem wiht classic costumes is they look silly in real life. How bad would a yellow wolverine be onscreen?
Superman has the out that those are his Kryptonian clothes. Some Earthbound shmoe always needs a backstory no matter how brief, for slapping on a dramatic costume.
Those uniforms were designed for gratuitous butt shots anyway. I bet the cameraman had no trouble waking up for work on the days he was scheduled to follow those two ladies around at waist level.
Cobie Smulders, who plays Maria Hill in The Avengers, also plays Robin Scherbatsky on "How I Met Your Mother". If you watch that show, you'd get the reference. If you don't, then you wouldn't get the reference.
I didn't know who Cobie Smulders was before this film. But based on the facts that she's (1) dark-haired, blue-eyed, tall, rather strikingly good-looking, and (2) capable of holding her own in an action sequence, I immediately started imaging her as Wonder Woman.
Would this movie be better watching it on Imax by yourself (well with your wife as well) or regular 3D with some friends? I need answers within the next hour and a half.
Then it should come as no surprise that Joss Whedon intended to cast her as his Wonder Woman when he was in charge of writing the script before the plug got pulled. Actually I believe she is in the movie because of Joss' influence as well.
For not really having his own movie prior to this like Iron Man, Thor, and the Cap, I've gotta say that Hulk had his fair share of shiny moments here.
I saw it on Wednesday in 3D. It was the first time I saw a movie in 3D. Definitely worth seeing again, which I will do tomorrow.
Just got back - my family didn't make it through John Carter (though we've seen it before, good flick). Went to Family Drive-In in Stephens City, VA. There's about 400 drive ins left in the country. There's 3 down Rt 11 (and awesome old road) in Virginia, the best being Hull's in Lexington, VA. Its gorgeous down there, and that drive in actually made the 10 best hidden gems in America from Time magazine. When the theater was going under after the owner died, the community got together and bought it. It's frozen in time- $5 a car, $2 for a popcorn. Best value you'll get, and they keep the place immaculate. Anyway, some thoughts on the Avengers. After repeated viewings I give it an A-. It was a fantastic action movie and Wheedon did a great job. Lots of great humor in it too. However, you can see where Robert Downey Jrs ego over rode everything else - at times it plays like Iron Man 3. Cap and Thor were definitely under utilized in order to make Iron Man's part bigger. However, a minor nit pick, but one I hope they resolve for the sequel. All sorts of great things in the flick, but 4 scenes I'd like to have seen changed - Anyway, my thoughts. Thought Black Widow, Hawkeye and the Hulk were perfect. Thor and Cap weren't highlighted enough, and Iron Man was too much.
Re: A minor "Avengers" nitpick... There is no way a woman can kick ass the way she did without a bit of muscle. That means there's more in that skin tight suit than skin and bones
Check out the Asgard mythos - Thor is acting very Thor-like. In short, he pouts a lot when he doesn't get his way. Or he gets beat. By the way. Whomever put the semispoiler in to stay all the way to end - several folks at the show which I went to thank you. They were getting ready to leave and I flagged them down and said "There's more! Really!" When they did finally leave they thanked me for making them stay so I know that they'd be thanking you.

As opposed to the Thor of the comics, who soliloqizes or rages (generally while sololiquizing). He doesn't pout.
