That's the thing, I don't think Romney's a bad guy. Yeah, I don't like his policies, and some of the things he says and believes are way out in crazy town, but he doesn't seem like a bad person. I doubt highly that he would want to destroy the U.S. That kind of hyperbole just needs to go.

And that is another reason he lost. He didn't get down and drity like the President did. The President sure as hell didn't express any specific plans or details, but he was able to hammer Romney for exactly that, and Romney never went after him on that. Romney ran a "gentleman's campaign" (more or less) and guess what, that dog don't hunt in this day and age.

I definitely wouldn't write an obituary for the Republican Party in general or on the presidential level in specific.

However, I would not call the close popular vote a "great" showing, given all the things that the Republicans had in their favor.

The economy being largely stagnant, the intense dislike of Obama among a large percentage of the electorate, the huge amount of money poured into the race by Super PACs, and the Republicans still lose. They even lost 3 of the four home states of the ticket (Michigan, Massachussets and Wisconsin).

Like Nova said, the demographics don't favor the GOP. It is getting its votes primarily from older white men. Meanwhile, the Democrats were getting votes from different people.

Democrats got votes from people getting handouts and bailouts and that's why Obama won. That said, I want to have much sex with the blondes on Fox News. Except for Susan Estrich, that's a man baby!

Looks like Nate Silver will end up having called all the states correctly in his final preelection map.

As for the popular vote vs. Electoral college, hey this is how it goes. Another thing, looking at my friends on Facebook, they are having the same sort of histrionic induced melt downs that the left had in 2004. I hope like he'll no one starts their own "I'm sorry" campaign.

Depends on how you define handouts. if you believe that bullshit 47% figure, then you are including veterans and old people both of whom reliably vote Republican.

It's more like 22% who get some sort of income based aid, and those tend to overlap some other Dem leaning demographics.
    Oh shut the fuck up.

God, Obama is so full of shit and he's just started talking. 2% of the people had to wait more than 10 minutes to vote..."we gotta fix that". Fuck off!

Yep. Four more years of disastrous policies that continue to take the country down the road of destruction.

I guess we need 8 years of the lesson.....

Virginia declared for Obama with NV having Obama way ahead. FL still close but with only blue counties left there is no question how it will fall. It's official, the NYT's and Nate Silver called the election EXACTLY. We're talking to the mother fucking T. Suck on that, rightforge.

    Go ahead and laugh.....

The dollar is already falling on news that Obama has won.

The Treasury Department just quietly put out a memo saying that we will hit our debt ceiling limit by the end of 2012.

    And that's just the start.

Wait until the Sequestration kicks in.

Wow. That's, like, completely out of left field. No-one would have seen that coming. And it would never have happened after a Romney victory!

edit: Might be best to hold off on trying to make definitive predictions about the future while it's still the day you got a massive one wrong hey.

You just predicted destruction for the entire country, when you up to a few hours ago were predicting Obama's electoral destruction.

Confidence is a large part of economic strength, and right now how can you predict the general market confidence in Obama?

Do you have any valid proof to back this up or was it just some [-]truth[/-] lie you heard on Fox News?

For what it's worth, I think the next few years will continue to see economic improvement overall in the US, whether it had been Obama or Romney that won.

Roving bands of Obama Youth confiscating firearms, giving mandatory abortions and gay marriages, and forming death panels to judge the worthiness of the elderly. It will be glorious. :obama:
