I used to hate dealing with students cell phones. To me it just was not worth the trouble to enforce rules against them because EVERYONE has them now. If they didn't go off in class I could care less and even if they did go off a simple warning was enough.

    But.

The states says students are NOT to have them in a public school. So after much resistance, I had to start confiscating them and writing up people who had them.

That is way more trouble than its worth.

I'm only allowed to hit students if they are in full football uniform and then I rightly classify it as a teaching tool.

Smart schools find ways to take students' familiarity and comfort with technology and harness it in instruction.

Dumb ones try to ban it.

Dayton, we're all familiar with the "using the moderators as weapons" schtick, but you're not supposed to tell people about the trap until after it's been sprung.

Yanno, when I first read this, I thought about how glad I was that you took your parents' advice and [-]used college as an excuse to hide in the basement till 'Nam was over[/-] didn't join the military so there'd be one less arrogant bully NCO/Chief/officer whose behavior runs out the good folks that had the misfortune of working with them.

But then I was remember that you've managed to piss off every employer you've ever worked for, so whichever branch that would have been saddled with you would make sure you were sent packing well before you came anywhere near real responsibility. Sadly, the State of Arkansas has no such restrictions...

Without reveling any BR info, if Dayton's talking about the school he currently works for, teachers seem to be seen as little more than babysitters, and teach their students accordingly. :borg:

    That said:

Somehow, I doubt Dayton is alone in being frustrated with the cell phone thing. These young kids nowadays act like they're glued to that shit...some of the ones on my last ship didn't even have the sense to [-]be discrete[/-] put the things away during battle stations drills, and they were in high school not that long ago. IT was pretty bad when I was in HS ten years ago, and the only thing you could do with 'em was text other people.

But Dayton still fails at life and doubly so for teaching. :borg:

Is it any wonder why Arkansas is openly mocked as not only a cesspit of humanity but also as one of the worst states for education?

It's odd to think back to my school days. I was in school full time for 20 of my 32 years.

Sometimes I am so glad to be done with that part of my life. Other times, I miss it terribly. I guess I had a range of experiences, both positive and negative.

I look back fondly on my grade school years...
I hated my high school (although in restrospect it wasn't too bad)
I loved college and consider my undergrad years to be the best years of my life...
I hated dental school and couldn't wait to be done with it...

Out of all my former teachers and professors, the only one I still keep in touch with is my 8th grade teacher. She was my favorite and I have great memories of her.

My other teachers and professors through the years ranged from decent to utterly awful. Most of my dental school professors fell into the latter category...

Someone should call Dayton's boss and let them know a change needs to be made.

I'm really happy and not at all surprised that I make more than Dayton. I mean don't get me wrong, it's really sad that his school district pays so little to teachers.

I did not give you permission.

I challenged you to post a link and then warned you that I would notify the moderator if you did so and thus no permission was granted.

You want to post personal material to make a point.

    Go right ahead.

But be man enough to take your punishment.

Besides which you posted information which if I'm not mistaken has never been posted by me at Wordforge even in the Diary thread. Thus you are guilty of revealing personal information that has never been revealed about a member.

It's only fair. The last time someone abused the report post button to erroneously report a leak of personal information, I believe Paladin had a meltdown.
