...Maud Dib will dress up as Trayvon Martin on Halloween. For some odd reason, some white folks think its cool. Trayvon Martin Blackface Costumes Are As American As Cherry Pie & Lynchings The photos circulating of white folks dressed as Trayvon Martin for Halloween complete w/ blackface, bloodied hoodie and a bullet hole is just as offensive as the Harriet Tubman sex tape video that a number of folks tried to defend talking about its ‘just comedy‘ and ‘free speech‘… Folks should clearly understand, we as Black folks, are not the only ones who will do shocking, distasteful things and defend it as humor and free speech..Apparently all sorts of white folks are doing the same except they are hitting on a basic building block of this country which is Black death and Black misery is funny and entertaining.. http://hiphopandpolitics.com/2013/1...kface-costumes-american-cherry-pie-lynchings/
"We just saw pictures circulating around the internet of a young sister for a Halloween costume, put a noose around her neck, hold a bucket of cotton while her white friends held the noose…They all found it to be funny." From link To be fair, they got some dumb ass Black folks too.
I agree with George Carlin, you can joke about anything. Some people are just looking for reasons to be offended.
Cool, next year I will dress up as one of your dead grandparents. To be authentic, I will dig them up and wear the clothes they were buried in. Or maybe someone else that you know that died tragically.
Don't play dumb. You know what it is! I will make a mockery of someone you know and love. But it won't offend you, right?! How bout if I dress up as your bucktoothed mother?
No. People bitching about someone saying "eeny meeny miney mo", J.R.R. Tolkien exploiting 9/11, or Bre'r Rabbit an de tar baby are looking for reasons to be offended. This Trayvon Martin costume thing...not so much. It practically offends its self. Besides, didn't you recently loose your shit over Gul's jab at people who eat at the Waffle House?
Friday's headline: Florida Man Mistakes Trick or Treater for Intruder, Kills Him "He was dark-complected and wearing one of them hoodies," was his defense. "I stood my ground."
It's 2013, somebody should tell these people that when they think they're dressing as a different ethnicity, they're actually wearing a dick costume.
This whole topic reminded me of that SNL skit from the early 80s where Eddie Murphy goes undercover as a white man and discovers that white people gets all sorts of perks and do nice things for each other when black people aren't around.
I'm not so much offended as I just find it tasteless and stupid. What's the point? Muad would have loved those costumes.
Supposedly it was nigger instead of tiger originally. Eeny Meeny Miney and Moe were slaves or something like that.
Umm, no. The version with nigger in it rose up in the late 1800's. But the song and various versions of it have been around since the early 1800's. Pulp Fiction used the nigger version. Thus the more current outrage.
You'd think people would have figured out dressing up in black face isn't kosher yet some how people still do it. Just yesterday we had three football coaches who work at a pretty exclusively white high school here in San Diego get in trouble for dressing up in black face (they were pretending to be the Jamaican bobsled team or something). http://www.10news.com/news/san-dieg...sed-in-blackface-for-halloween-party-10292013
She probably just didn't want to make a stink. You know how hard young people want to fit in though you're absolutely right that she should have objected because that's pretty damn demeaning.
That you're so cognizant of something like this makes me think what demeaning things you've had to do to fit in.
