The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s own conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.

Trump had received private assurances from former FBI Director James B. Comey starting in January that he was not personally under investigation. Officials say that changed shortly after Comey’s firing.

"obstruction of justice" is like "trolling" on an internet board or "holding" in American rules football.

A very vague concept that is largely in the eye of the beholder.

In other words, a partisan witchhunt that will produce nothing of substance yet cost millions of taxpayer dollars. :dayton:

An "investigation" ostensibly about collusion with Russians that is now somehow about unspecified "possible financial crimes." So they're going to try to manufacture a criminal case out of anything they can find.

Maybe at the end of the day they'll find that a Trump minion didn't tip the waitress at Appleby's a year ago. :dayton:

Mueller was appointed by Rod Rosenstein, who was himself appointsd by Donald J. Trump.

Mueller was previously appointed as a United States Attorney by Ronald Reagan, as an assistant Attorney General by George Bush Sr, and made head of the FBI by George W. Bush.

But no, it's totally a partisan witch hunt. :dayton:

FWIW, back in April I met a lawyer who was a classmate of Rod's at law school. This guy hates Rod's politics, but says that Rod values the law and integrity above all else. Said lawyer is a cohost of this podcast, BTW, if you're interested in his take on what's going on.

Mueller himself may not be overly partisan, but the entire Russian collusion "investigation" is the very definition of partisan smear campaigning. Mueller is either is a willing pawn of the Left, or a pawn of the McCain / Kasich Republican establishment that hates Trump and opposed his nomination.

I have no doubt this will go nowhere. But it's the best comedy-drama since that spacey guy.

Mueller may or may not be partisan but it looks bad that he's hired only Democrat lawyers who've donated to Democrats and worked in various capacities for Democrats.

One of the lawyers even worked for the Clinton Foundation. gasp! ;)

On top of that Mueller is BFF with Comey.

So the jury is out on whether Mueller will be fair.

Remember how many times Trump said during his campaign that Clinton would be unfit to serve as president because she's under investigation by the FBI?

Seems clear now that he was projecting. Into the future!

Trump stinks of dodginess, absolutely reeks of it - it's like he bathes in eau d'corruption after flannelling his face with a Russian hookers pissflaps, before climbing into his Saudi-sponsored bathrobe and relaxing to read desperately sad love letters from his minions.

What I don't get are why the right are so very, very desperate to blind themselves to this. You must fucking loathe your own country to defend Trump, you really must.

Where can I buy some of that Trump cologne? It smells like success. Which should answer your question.

This explains all the trouble I have with Powerpoint presentations, I should run them on the projector the previous day and wait for time to catch up to them.

I was talking about psychological projection. I don't think there's any temporal component to that.

Probably from the same store as Hillary.

I expect people in general to defend Their Guy to a point, but in Trump's case we've gone past that point by some distance. And the right are usually the first to start flag waving and chest beating over the nation, so I would expect less tolerance for Trump's shenanigans from them. Slogans only get you so far before actions put them to bed, so how the merry fuck some people can cuddle their Make America Great Again caps whilst the head of the US turns his role into circus is beyond me.

If this was a Democrat pulling this shit I'd be investing in clothing with 'molon labe' and 'rooftop voting' printed on it :marathon:
