It's not exactly Darth Vader coming out and joining Queer Eye to tart up the stormtroopers for Pride week on the Death Star is it? Luke didn't get a shiny new rainbow number for a lightsaber.

It's a big galaxy. You can expect women and a whole load of LGBT - and whatever other letters are being added these days, I lose track - in it.

And really, the whole Empire - and by extension, the New Order - are pretty much a fascist stereotype, so if anything, you'd expect to see such characters, especially in the Rebellion. The fact SW hasn't had them in previously is more to do with the era the OT appeared in, and in the PT because plot came a distant second to the overall tale and special effects. And I'm being kind to George Lucas there.

If it's that much of an anathema, start up a crowdfund for buying Disney. Then you can change SW into a big old space zoo for white straight males.

I don't think female characters are necessarily an SJW thing. Certainly, they can be feminist in the here's-a-capable-woman-protagonist (which I like) without being woman-against-the-evil-that-is-all-men (which I don't).

I don't think T&L even counts since there are at least a couple of likeable male characters (Harvey Keitel, Brad Pitt) in the film.

The most SJW thing about the new Star Wars films are the lack of white male leads...if you don't count Harrison fucking Ford in TFA or Mark goddamn Hamill in TLJ.

I think Kylo Ren could be considered a lead character. And Poe Dameron is a pretty significant secondary character. Both white males. Both had large parts in TLJ.

And the Solo movie also has a white male lead of course.

So I don’t really get the SJW stuff. It seems like people are going off stuff Kathleen Kennedy has said in interviews rather than what’s actually in the movies.

I keep seeing this thing about Leia being a lesbian? Where is that mentioned or even hinted at? I’ve seen both sequel films and read the novelizations of both as well. Never found anything about that.

My problems with TLJ have nothing to do with politics. I just thought it was poorly written and boring in large stretches (especially all the Canto Bight stuff, really had nothing to do with the rest of the movie). I liked Finn in TFA but I think they really wasted the character in the sequel. Also didn’t like what they did with Luke’s character. But that has nothing to do with SJW or whatever. I don’t even know what that means. Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

Prefer the Thrawn Trilogy over this. I know it’s not canon anymore but I don’t care about that. It still better written and more enjoyable.

My only real issue with TLJ was the ship chase, which was done so very, very badly.

A lot of the Luke stuff is down to fans having built him up to be Space Jesus. He was going to rock up in a black trenchcoat and sunglasses, and like, totes Jedi the shit out of the New Order. Haha Adam from Girls! Now you're facing the guy who voiced the Joker, get ready for someone whose career has already been shit on by this franchise! Why, I've still got acting PTSD from being Skywalker-dicked right out of Amadeus and an Oscar nomination, and I'm going to take it out on Darth Emo!

Instead we got an aged hippy who'd fucked off to Intergalactic Goa when all his plans for peace, love and the entire Star Wars musical back catalogue to be reworked on mandolins and Moog synths failed to happen.

Basically we got an embittered John Lennon who'd never been shot, and had rolled over to face the horror of Yoko Ono in the morning once too often after a drunken night of bitterly doing 'Imagine' on karaoke, and screaming "you killed the dream" to a bar-full of confused drinkers at the end.

Which was a bit of reality creeping into the fantasy world, but since these fantasy worlds exist as both mirrors of, and escapes from, the real world, is no bad thing.

Luke showed Darth Mopey who was boss, and then Obi-Wanned himself.
