We already knew that when he made the same kind of remark about my (late) Mom. He's not sick, but he does think he's funny.
"If you think the sky is falling, it's only because we're making it fall." - We Are Borg exactly! And as for nobody on the right (except Zombie) taking this seriously that's not really accurate. I'm taking common sense precautions but not getting wrapped around the axle over it. As WAB pointed out oodles of people die from car crashes, heart attacks, the flu, etc. all the time. You have to live your life. What the fuck would we do if an actual holy shit war was going on within our borders? I'm just trying to keep things in perspective - we all face statistically larger threats on a daily basis and we find a happy medium between not-giving-a-fuck and turtling up in the fetal position. I'm not going to lose my shit over it, though of course I'll be frustrated like anybody else over work closures and event cancellations and so forth. But I'm sure not going to sweat over any "worst case" scenario.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/opinion-sean-mallen-coronavirus-1.5491827 Great analysis as to why the U.S. is fucked.
Rick's link is pointing out that the cat's out of the bag, and social isolation is the main tool to mitigate the spread. it's not sky is falling stuff.
It's a good article. I was countering Async's assertion that the sky is falling. This is a serious public health issue that requires a quick, thoughtful response based on science. Unfortunately most Western governments were slow to respond and, in the case of the United States, you have a government led by someone more interested in stroking their own ego than solving the issue.
Trump is a fucking moron, but that's no reason not to exercise social isolation. As for skies falling, I think at the epicenters for infections it's going to be bad. Major metropolitan hospitals will be turning away patients. Yeah, 99% will survive if the 10% that need medical attention get it. In a city of 3 million, 300,000 are going to need medical attention in a very short time. 30,000 are going to die no matter what.
Im absolutely convinced trumps got it and they are trying to push through maybe using some Alex Jones toothpaste but I’m certain he has it.
Everyone's dead. Everyone's already dead. They just don't know it. The teensy percent who survive the virus will wish they hadn't once the Dow hits zero. When the economy collapses, it'll take civilization with it. Every man, woman, and child will die. Here's the death that awaits you. Probably murder for your goods. And it'll probably get a little rapey before they finally let you die. The armed will hold out for awhile, but bullets are finite, and wave after wave of hungry gangs will just keep coming and coming until the ammo runs out. They'll march into your weapon fire until they get through. They won' be human anymore, fear won't work. Nothing will work. Nothing you ever hung your hopes on will work. If you go on the run like the guy and his kid from "The Road", that'll buy you a little time. But then starvation will get you. Your ribs will pop out, your eyes will sink in, your limbs will go all bony, and soon, your body will have eaten itself to the point there's nothing left to keep you going. The pain in your stomach will be indescribable. And then, when you finally die, the flies and maggots will get to your corpse. A swarm of bottle-flies will split your skull. And they'll carry away your skeleton across the moon like Ellliot and ET on the bike. Skeletons across the moon will be a common sight in the new world of horrors. Rape gangs with laugh and cheer as they swig your liquor cabinet. There is no hope. Absolutely none. SO!! Let's talk about suicide!! I recommend everyone run to the bookstores, and buy up every copy of "Final Exit", and distribute it to family, friends, and neighbors. They'll need it.
Bit late to the party but what a disastrous press conference by Trump. The White House had to immediately start clarifying things that he got wrong right after it because he couldn't read words on a screen Trudeau would have done a better job for crying out loud, and he's a disaster Just completely embarrassing, but in a slightly terrifying way Dems need to turn that into a political commercial and hammer this clown with it
Speaking of Trudeau, it looks like he might have it. That oughta light a fire under the Canadian government's arse...
Probably more, in the USA alone. And you don't consider that a case of "the sky is falling"? Letting the thing get out of hand by inaction and blatant disinformation, leading to so many deaths? To me, that's the kind of "this requires immediate, major action" that merits the admittedly not-to-be-taken-literally description of "the sky is falling".
I read the book by Anonymous and it basically says Trump is almost illiterate. After watching his full press conference last night, I think Anonymous is correct. I'm pretty sure in the 244 years of history of the United States of America, that was the worst speech ever given by a President.
Some folks in Congress are doing their job. Shame Moscow Mitch has committed to evacuating the Senate, I mean recessing the Senate, instead of taking up coronavirus legislation.
