The American dictionary I have here gives as the first definition of curiosity: "a desire to learn or know". It gives only as the secondary definition of curiosity: "a desire to learn about things that do not properly concern one; inquisitiveness". Thus, any desire to know something is "curiosity", whether or not one intends to use the knowledge gained for some purpose. To suppose that the word can only mean what is properly its secondary definition, and then tell a professonal wordsmith that the word cannot have its primary definition, is simply to demonstrate your ignorance of the meaning of the word. And I say that as someone who doesn't even have a dog in this fight about whether or not your ancestors were indentured servants or not. I couldn't care less, because I fail utterly to see what that has to do with anything. I thoroughly reject the "sins of the fathers" mentality, that one can look down on someone for what their ancestors did. We all have plenty of very noble people among our ancestors, and plenty of scoundrels as well. To pretend otherwise is pure nonsense.
I'm not sure if that question is in regards to the US system or Parliamentary systems, but in many parliaments it's actually a thing enshrined in law.
If they honestly believed the election wasn't settled, Biden would still be entitled to briefings as one of the two leading candidates. This is 100% Trump trying to take the country down with him.
Thank you. To put this in context, @The Ghost of Crazy Horse was doing the "diss someone who isn't from my country" shit that @Ten Lubak seems to think he owns the patent on. It's a throwaway insult that's designed to end the conversation. I wasn't having it. Before @Jenee decided to put her oar in, I intended to tell Crazy Horse, "Look all of the British colonies - including our own - were formed by what the Empire considered riffraff, but we've turned out pretty well in spite of that." (Though, to be fair, Australia's done a far better job than the U.S. and, IIRC, @Bailey's not a native Australian but a transplant.) Glass houses and all that. Had @Jenee not butted in, Crazy Horse might have asked me "Well, what about your people?" My answer would have been as follows: I have no idea who my father's people were or how they got here, but it was before Ellis Island was opened in 1892, because there are no records of them. Sneaky bastids, the Wanders. They could have come through Castle Garden (whose records are spotty at best) or they could have snuck in from Canada or changed their names or who knows? My mother's people can be traced back through the paternal line to 1670-something - not to the U.S., but to Newfoundland which, at the time, was not yet a part of Canada. There's a great-great-great-every-so-great-grandfather whose name on the ship's manifest (from somewhere in the UK, probably Liverpool) was - I kid you not - Little Arse Gosse. Now, did that mean he had a little ass (with maybe an older brother or cousin with the same name but a big ass) or that he was a pain in the ass? No way of knowing. I do know my great-grandparents were illiterate, and that the Gosse men were Newfie fishermen. I have a photo of my great-grandfather where you can see the scars on his fingers from the "cod lines" - the ropes the men used to haul a 100-200-pound codfish into a small boat, ripping the skin off their hands in the process. My grandparents had a grade school education. Both had to go to work when they were barely in their teens. My grandmother was so malnourished growing up that it stunted her growth. Their daughter was the first person in the family to go to high school. The last thing I intended was to insult anyone whose ancestry is similar, and it would have been fun to have that conversation with @The Ghost of Crazy Horse. But among @Jenee's specialties is being insulted on others' behalf, and of dogging me for things she lets the boys here slide on. Curious. Now wait for her response to this post.
The problem is when that lacks clarity. A bad faith argument of voter fraud can kick the electors out and send the count over to the states to decide. Constitutionally, then Trump is certified President. It's really a fucking horrible system. It requires a few states to act in bad faith, and a stacked supreme court... Personally, I'm not going to breathe easy until the election is certified. Again, I don't think it would necessarily work, but even the attempt could rip the country apart.
I almost angry smiley-ed this, but...y'know what, good, fuck Melania. Who wants to see her anyway? I seem to recall Nancy Reagan being a twat to Barbara Bush. All Republican first ladies aren't twats, but all twat first ladies are Republican.
Semi-tinfoil theory I heard elsewhere that I hope doesn't come true... Bill Barr will try to outright manufacture fraud evidence. Keep an eye on that fucker.
Then Mitch McConnell, and all the the other Senators and House members the Repubs picked up have to resign. They were on the same fuckin' ballots as Biden/Trump. There wasn't a special mini-ballot just for president. Not how any of this shit works.
One individual has already admitted to perjury for signing an affidavit that voting fraud occurred in PA. He recanted when investigated and said he made the whole thing up.
It was literally a GoFundMe. The company took it down - he's not going to get the money. Yet another fraud perpetrated by 'Project Veritas' - who takes money directly from Trump.
Not enough for me. I believe the "carry him out bodily" scenario could still play out even if the election is certified. Thus, I will not breath easy until January 20, a minute or two after noon, Eastern Standard Time.
You really are a horrible person! My own ancestors are no better. On my Swedish side, my great-grandparents were "servants" but it pretty much amounted to slavery. They somehow managed to scrape up boat passage and come to America, so my grandfather grew up free. My Canadian side is even worse: illegal immigrants! After my Canadian great-grandfather died, my great-grandmother somehow got engaged to a crazy American who lied about his name, snuck her and her teen-aged daughter (my grandmother) across the border by hiding in the washroom of a train, and then "married" her even though it was later determined that the marriage wasn't legal because he lied about his name. That's my mother's side of the family. On my father's side, I don't know for sure how long my ancestors have been in the States. My grandfather once told me that he was the 5th generation to use the current spelling of the name (which was orginally Schultz; good luck on trying to figure out where in Germany they came from!). That makes me at least 7th generation American, but only 5th generation Michigander. Before that, the family was in New York state and there seems to be good information that they were slave owners, back before New York outlawed slavery. So I'm descended from slaves, slaveholders and illegal immigrants, and that's just in the last two centuries or so! But I think a principle I saw many years ago (in an Andy Capp cartoon, of all places, if I am not mistaken) sums it up well: "Who you're descended from doesn't matter nearly as much as what you've descended to."
So, one of my podcast hosts looked at the leaked Hunter Biden pics, and apparently, he's got a huge pecker. Assuming he inherited that from Joe, and assuming Stormy is right about Trumps pathetic mushroom, this whole meltdown thing could be over cock envy, which would be in keeping with Trump's whole sad existence.
Aside from the expected pettiness of it, does anyone really care if the Trumps meet with the Bidens or not? I'm pretty sure Joe and Jill have the only role models they need.
You couldn't make this shit up https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...s-donald-trump-considering-2024-presidential/
Not much of a surprise. For a narcissist like him, having the entire world have to listen to every utterance, read every tweet and bend over backwards to react to you seems like a helluva drug. The power, the money, the glory, the crowds...he's going to lose it all. He's not going to be able to fly around the country getting tens of thousands to show up when he's just an ex-president. Not to mention that once he's out of the office, he may well fce the music as to criminal and civil liability for things he's done before and while in office.
Nah, he'll still draw huge crowds and be constantly reveling in their adulation. And he'll skate on everything and die rich. The universe is uncaring and cold.
@Raoul the Red Shirt alluded to it, but I'll be more blunt: You cannot run for President if you are in prison.
