This is not "before" this is now. The political polarization is cranked up to eleven. It's a whole new ball game.

High School+ I guess. High School with the equivalent of an Associates Degree and much technical training from a military/military contracting careers. Most of it is centered around air traffic control equipment but not all. Feel free to use me as an example of a white male without a college degree gravitating towards conservatism versus liberalism, if indeed this the intent of your question.

 whatever! BTW they forgot to put "Democratic" before party. But it does sum up Bidenism quite succinctly!

Problem is, the South doesn't understand it's own history.

They still think they didn't lose.

It's almost a metaphor for Trump, really.

We both agree with this statement, but we mean totally different things by it.

And in other news, small towns across the heartland are being overwhelmed as their few doctors and nurses are getting too sick to work, several high profile preachers have died from Covid, virtually the entire white house has been infected, and an Alabama state senator, Larry Dixon, just died. His wife said his last words were "We messed up. We let our guard down. Please tell everybody to be careful. This is real, and if you get diagnosed, get help immediately."

Dixon was a doctor. And the former Chief of the Board of Medical Examiners for the state of Alabama.

What was the topic again, I forgot as we rapidly approach 300,000 dead. Should be there by the end of the week.

Please explain to us, because we obviously do not understand two things:

    1. Why do you think the meme shootER posted is laughable - when it's exactly what happened

    and

    2. Why you think Biden, who has not previously done any of the things of which you are accusing him, will do those things.

Of all the stupid arguments against changing the base names, this is probably the stupidest.

Remembering history does not require us to celebrate evil. Do our troops in Germany work at Fort Himmler? Do our planes in Saudi Arabia fly out of Saddam Hussein Air Force Base?

    No, that wasn't my intent.
I wanted to see if there was a possible correlation to your critical thinking skills.

BTW, I do sincerely applaud your technical training and what education you have earned.

The Robert E Lee statue, part of Virginia's two contributions to the National Statuary Hall in DC (along with George Washington), is being removed.

It's being replaced by civil rights icon Barbara Johns.

Johns led a student protest against desegregation, and followed up with a lawsuit. This was a large part of the basis of several suits that were comined in the landmark Brown v Board of Education that stuck down segregation in schools.

    and then;

    something something form follows function?

Like seriously... a statue of Lee does nothing but perpetuate the "Lost Cause" narrative which in turn distorts and denies a major chapter of US history.
funny, because my education is comparable. More certificates than diplomas that combined could make up a degree in... something.
yet here I am, a MAWG, consistently moving further left every year.
Must have had something to do with having to pay for the education myself and survive in the private sector?

When the Confederacy was defeated and the former rebel states were admitted back into the Union, there was a general policy of "forgive and forget", in a lot of ways (not all), so as not to unnecessarily alienate and complicate the reintegration of the rebel states.

Things like statues of rebel commanders and politicians, flying of the rebel flag, even naming Army bases after rebel officers, these things were permitted and done in the spirit of reconciliation and compromise. "You're not a conquered enemy, you're a reunited beloved family member".

But it's been 150 years and those concessions are no longer necessary. The old slavery supporting rebel nation needs to be swept into the dustbin of history.

that's the career path you chose, and I chose mine. I know plenty of people who thrive in the private sector and paid for their own education yet move further right every year. Any thoughts?

and I know a whole bunch more just like me...
none of which has anything to do with the point that you didn't pay for yours and have rarely existed outside of a government cheque.
hardly leaves you in a position to criticize anybody for lack of competitiveness let alone to be actively voting against them having those same basic "perks" and expectations.

I worked construction for several years and when I was a teen I worked at a sawmill/woodworking shop. When I had a family to support I chose a less dangerous job (the military) and free job training was part of the job, and discounted civilian college classes were also one of the perks. If all employers found a way to do this, that would be great. But they don't, and they certainly didn't when I was younger. Should my family go without because I want to pass up an opportunity to make more money with better benefits and less serious injury? What would that accomplish?

He's the all american everyman, trying to make sure others will struggle like he hasn't had to. Can't have everyone living in a house with job security like some sorta Marxist utopia.

Although he does bring up a point I've long made that minimum wages and benefits should be equivalent to those enjoyed by public employees.

and as it stands now in America civilians (everybody born starts out as one) have the right to apply and compete for those jobs if they so chose. Nobody is drafted/forced into any level of government employment. Until the system is completely revamped government jobs will generally pay more/have better benefits than similar private sector jobs. That is the reality of the situation. Perhaps billionaire CEO's can take it upon themselves to compensate their employees more - nobody is stopping them from doing that.

I don't know what reality you live in, but vets do get preferential status when applying for DOD jobs. and civilians trying to get one is even more "you have to know someone" than most corporate jobs.

That said, those DOD jobs are only where there is a government installation. Not all areas in the US have government installations. So, no, applying for a government job is not a level playing field.

Civilians trying get one (at least a for a job like mine) is usually a matter of not having the skillset because only the military teaches the equipment. But there are still plenty of other jobs where typical civilian job skills apply. Also civilians can relocate to areas near military/government locations to take advantage of expanding job opportunities. Right now the Augusta area is experiencing a boom of people moving here because of NSA and other cyber jobs expanding.

FYI I am not a GS grade worker, I work for a private civilian company providing contracting services.

So does Voting for Trump negate the fact that I am a conservative? In other words Lanzman is a conservative but he did not vote for Trump AFAIK because he hates Trump.
Do I consider Lanz not a true conservative? Newsflash I consider him very much a conservative.

So, not "anybody" can get that job even if they chose.

Again, because my mother-in-law worked for HR on the Navy base here, it's more often a matter of who you know.

Moving is not as easy or cheap as the word implies. If one does not already have a job and money in the bank, how are they going to have cash for first and last month's rent in the new area? How are they going to get the gas to move there? Just because you say things does not mean doing those things is easy or even possible for many people.

And yet, even though Georgia's labor forces is at an all time high, the unemployment rate is still 5.7%

So, you aren't a government worker.

Not really. While the parties are more polarized than we’ve had this century it isn’t due to the Dems moving.

    It’s called asymmetrical polarization.
