This goes beyond even expulsion. Any member that knowingly co-consipred should be charged and jailed for a VEEEEEERY long time.
My money says Gosar and Brooks.

    https://www.northjersey.com/story/n...rioters-got-tour-congress-members/6648386002/

Rep. Mikie Sherrill, during a live webcast Tuesday evening, said she witnessed some members of Congress leading people through the Capitol on Jan. 5 in what she termed a "reconnaissance for the next day" when insurrectionists took part in a deadly siege on the legislative branch.

During the Facebook Live, Sherrill (D-11, Montclair) addressed her constituents to explain why she voted for a resolution to ask Vice President Mike Pence to remove President Donald Trump from office by invoking the 25th Amendment. That measure passed late Tuesday 223-205, but Pence had notified House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier in the day that he would not comply with the request.

That makes it likely that the House will, for the second time, impeach Trump on Wednesday. Sherill said she intends to support an article of impeachment against Trump for "incitement of insurrection."

After laying out her reasons for seeking Trump's removal, Sherill moved on to those of her congressional colleagues who, she said, "abetted" the president's attempt to overturn the results of the election and undermine democracy by inciting a violent mob.

"I'm going to see they are held accountable, and if necessary, ensure that they don't serve in Congress," she said, speaking sedately, but severely.

You neglect the reality that DC law bans guns and that it would be much harder to have gotten an assault rifle to the capitol. Yews, there may have been a few handguns, but had the national guard [actually come out they would have outgunned the riot had they had only a few handguns. Had this been like other proud boy 2nd amendment terrorist events where they intimidate others by carrying around assault rifles by many of the participants this would have been much worse.

It is safe to say that the banning of most firearms in DC prevented the body count from rising much higher as it would have had the armed and murderous protestors emboldened by powerful guns. The fact that there was so little gunfire and violence was because of gun bans, and you are a fucking liar for claiming otherwise. Seriously, if this sort of thing had happened in other places the gunfire would have been much worse, and the police would not have felt as confident in allowing the riot to run so amok.

Hence the words "in their eyes" :)

One thing I didn't factor in before reding this story is that impeachment would cut off Trump's access to classified materials. The notion that a disgraced, broken, spiteful and debt-ridden Trump would continue to get briefings should scare anyone. Even while he was in office, there were at least a couple times when he shared information he probably shouldn't have. And that was with the guardrails of numerous aides around him and with possible negative consequences to him and his administrtation evident. His aides as I recall would sometimes cover this by saying, "Well, he's the president and he can declassify whatever he wants."

There is nothing that would stop him from selling or accidentally leaking secrets going forward. Or simply giving the information to enemies, foreign or domestic.

Beyond the notion that it's the right thing to do, or that we should stop him from ever holding an office of trust, the notion that we need to br him from vontinuing to have access to classified materials is something that justifies impeachment.

As for the underlying charge that congresspeople were giving reconnaisance tours of the Capitol, that is also a chilling thought. I would like to have some proof, particularly of guilt on the part of congresspeople. It would not surprise me if some of the insurrectionists went on a tour of the Capitol the day before and even enlisted the help of sympathetic-seeming congresspeople. But the notion that a congressperson's office knew that they were giving tours to people who were planning to even mildly disrupt the EC ceremony, let alone who were going to go to the lengths the insurrectionists did, is simultaneously mind-boggling and stomach-churning.

I think the important part is mitch seems to be seeing this is a point where they can cut off trump from damaging the party in the future. I think that is why this actually has a chance of passing the 2/3 threshold in the senate. Mitch can have a few senators in trumpland vote against it while putting up enough others to keep trump out. He has to do this or else they will come back. I think mitch is smart and manipulative enough to realize you cannot let the trump base control the party or esde you are going to lose the big money to the dems.

That's a consideration by the current POTUS, not the law. Biden would stop that for Trump

I hardly ever agree with you and I'm actually happy to do so here but I just want to point out it's not so cut and dry as you describe here.

I believe that I'm on record stating that on November 8, 2016, I woke up at 3 am to finish watching election results... only to see that Donald Trump had won the election and would be our country's 45th president. Not only that, but Republicans had won overwhelming majorities in the Senate and House and already enjoyed a majority on SCOTUS. My heart sunk in my stomach. There were what I considered to be credible accusations that Russia had used dark money to put undue influence in this election. I still believe that. I had never felt this way before and hope I never do again. For a brief moment, I considered putting my bitch-boy rifle in my trunk and driving down to the Jacob Javits Center. It was only a little over an hour away.... Hillary chose to set up her campaign headquarters for the night and I wanted to just offer my services however I could. There was no way that this country was going to let this happen, right?

About a minute later, a BREAKING NEWS headliner flashed across the screen and the network announced that Hillary Clinton had called Donald Trump to concede that he won and offered him her congratulations. Right then, it dawned on me the importance of a concession. It was over. DJT was POTUS and there was nothing that anyone could do. Stand down. Hope that Republicans with a greater sense of duty and morality would protect us from his worst inclinations.

It would've been easy for Hillary to keep fanning the flames and rile people up that night. Claim the election was illegitimate. I couldn't have been the only one who felt that way. So it's very easy for me to see how that whole #StopTheSteal rhetoric was harmful. If everything DJT was telling his supporters was true, That the election was stolen, you won't have a country anymore, that the entire thing was illegitimate, then what those people did was the right thing. Their biggest mistake was trusting him, IMHO. Almost 90 judges looked at evidence his campaign put forth.... some of them were appointed by him and confirmed by Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley... and they decided that it was only a mere accusation and not actual evidence. some of it was outright lies... And yet he continued to lie to them. Conservative media continued to lie to them for him. They all knew better.

They have to be held accountable for this. JMHO.

Sounds like you're right that it is a tradition that Biden can -- and obviously should -- just stop, according to this article back from when we didn't know that the president might foment insurrection:

    This.

The legitimising of an incoming administration by the previous or rival matters.

By not making such a public statement, by actively taking the opposite position, Trump has effectively told his supporters that they are living in a country occupied by an illegitimate, tyrannical, power.

That, @oldfella1962, is why I refer to the 2nd. Not because of firearms or the lack thereof but because such an imagined scenario is exactly what is used to justify it.

What is really bad is many many years ago I was in Hailfax Nova Scotia where I was hanging out with a bunch of werewoofs at one of the first online gatherings we had. At that campout there was a guy we called Smash greywolf. He was a pretty decent shamanistic werewoof guy. He wore the furs and viking horns with some interesting face paint and tats. Smash was a fun guy, and would be way too old to be this guy now. Why is this guy giving shamans and werewoofs a bad name? This guy is more like moon moon after being beaten too much.

No one knows what I am talking about, but I am still crying.

I know a lot of police and a lot of gendarmes here in France who would hate you for that remark. The police nationale and the gendarmerie nationale are two rival police structures here in France. Think of the strongest sports rivalries you can, along with accusations of government favoritism, and you will more or less get the idea.

IMHO, the gendarmerie nationale is much better than the police nationale. Though I admit I have never said that to a very close friend, a member of my church, who is a retiree of the police nationale...

That trip holds a little place in my heart for a few of the firsts that happened.

It was the first time I visited people I met on the internet. It was the first time I slept in a furpile. It was the first time I walked in on a threesome bondfage fuckfest, and was invited to join. It was the first time I was in a girl's room who had a ball gag, ridingf crop, whip, and a bed with industrial hooks for tying people up. It was the first time I drove 24 hours straight. It was the first time I went deeper than a mile into canada. It was the first time I heard a woman scream because her boyfriend did not wash his hands well enough after cutting chili peppers and then put his fingers in her. It was the first time I climbed a train bridge.

It was a fucking blast of a trip, and I never ever looked back at my little hometown as a big place again. It was all a crazy fucking ride from there.

    My bad.

I think here in Canuckistan, we use "gendarme" as a catch-all phrase for the fuzz.

(At least that's what they taught me in my high school French classes...)

    Not really.

The police nationale used to just be the Paris city police force, but sometime a while back they were given national jurisdiction. The gendarmerie nationale is a military force, but that does police work rather than what you normally think of as military work. Either one can give you a ticket for speeding, or anything like that. The gendarmerie has much better discipline and, overall, a much better attitude. There are plenty of exceptions, of course, but most gendarmes understand that they serve the public. I would say that at least half of the police nationale think that they rule the public, and it shows in their attitudes.

The gendarmerie also has an elite specops corps (GIGN, the "Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale") who aren't up to the level of Navy Seals, for example, but who are still pretty good. If the government sends the GIGN after you, you don't have much hope.
