This the J&J clot pause?

I initially had that response to the AZ one and the EU, especially as they'd been playing politics over it, however it's the type of clot that's the issue.

If the incidence is anything like the AZ one, the absolute risk is smaller than long covid IIRC, so pausing it for certain demographics may make sense, but not pausing it absolutely.

The odds of developing a blood clot on your own is around 2-5%, the 6 who got the blood clots is probably more coincidental than being a factor.

Yeah, they're still trying to figure out if it had anything to do with the vax. The six people were all women of a specific age group with a specific blood disorder.

Pausing risks unnecessarily setting back the overall efforts to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Biden & Co. have gone with door number 2. J&J fits perfectly into the Great Scheme of Things, but now it will easy for anti vaxxers to exploit the "pause" by claiming that it's less desirable and being foisted off on poor and minorities whilst the "rich" and "white" get the good stuff.

And yeah, it looks like it’s exactly like the AZ one (which makes sense, given the platform for both is a modified adenovirus). A handful of women under 50 with the same rare blot clot. So just pause it for them (preferably an even smaller demographic if they have enough data to narrow it further), keep giving it to everyone else.
The bigger problem, of course, is that P.1 is here (US) and the 50% efficacy isn’t nearly enough to create herd immunity, and we have no data on asymptomatic transmission of it among vaccinated people. Much as people would like to believe it, the pandemic isn’t over, or even close to it. Fuck Bolsonaro, he should be held personally responsible for turning Brazil into a Petri dish and unleashing the variant on the world.

ETA: to be clear, it should probably be paused only long enough to get doctors trained and documentation written up for patients to be able to figure out if one is occurring (it doesn't sound like it happens within the observation window). That could take a few days or more. But that's it. Still need to get vaccines in arms.

At that rate, statistically someone waiting for their vaccination has a 27 times higher chance of having a heart attack than of getting a blood clot from the vaccination. About the only thing stopping the vaccinations will do is to add to the fear mongering and reluctance for people to get vaccinated.

the meme breaks it down quite clearly but my mother-in-law still won't get the J &J or any other version of the vaccine. My wife recently lost her father, thus she doesn't want to chance losing her mother.
But some people are just too stubborn or scared or whatever to get the vaccine.

They just think they have a better excuse now.

As for the delay I would say they were being overly cautions, but this is J&J we are talking about. There is probably a blood clot problem they need to get a hold of before they put out any more. J&J is the company that likes to change the sensitivity of the tests so they detect less problems rather than fixing the problems. There is probably a bigger fucking problem than we know, and in a few years there will be a class action lawsuit because they were knowingly killing a bunch of people when they could have stopped it. We still have the other two vaccines which probably dot not have asbestos baby powder blood clotting factors in them.

I am still on line for the fucking vaccine. It is the government and J&J so I am sure they did not cut it off because of 6 people. That is just what they are telling us right now. I am still getting the fucking vaccine.
