Ye gods, one of the shittiest vehicles I've ever owned was a 1986 1/2 Ford Ranger. Fucker had a whole host of problems, and I know from personal experience that it could tackle something like that at near highway speeds without any problems.

I used to live on a dirt broad and drove sedans on worse nthan that sort of shit. I am pretty bsure nyou do nnot want to take that thing near any sort of actual mud given the weight of the vehicle.

or maybe that you are in a gigantic stainless steel death trap that tends to have operating problems. Also, you support Trump 2.0 Elon Musk who is trying to be the new CHUD overlord.

Here's something that's got me a wondering. The Wankpanzer uses a really shitty custom 300 series stainless steel alloy. It's ill-suited for the type of conditions that one would expect a car to encounter in normal use (chlorides seem to do a number on certain 300 series alloys). In 2020, SpaceX decided that they'd opt for a different 300 series steel than they had been using on their prototypes. The reason given was that Elmo claimed they needed to use a more "modern" material. (i.e. something that had been developed in the 21st Century, and not the 20th.)

But the truth is, 301 (which is what they were using) never should have been the material of choice to begin with, given what they want Starship to do. (It's also utterly unsuited for the Wankpanzer exterior, BTW.) So why buy it? I don't know. It's not particularly cheap, there's better grades of SS that are cheaper. (DeLoreans used 304 SS and you don't hear tales of them covered in rust spots, etc.)

I can see Elmo doing a bulk buy of SS for both companies, to save on money since he'd get a lower price thanks to volume. Or, once he realized that he'd bought the wrong kind of SS for Starship, dumping it on Tesla for them to use on the Wankpanzers. What I can't figure out is why he opted for the 301 to begin with. 316 is what I would have gone with. Not only because of its price (it's fairly inexpensive) but primarily because of its resistance to things like corrosion. All the stainless steel tables you see in commercial kitchens? That's 316. So are some of the latch parts on things like Honda's Ridgeline pickup. You can dump concentrated oven cleaner on that stuff and it won't leave a mark.

Definitely not a rumor...lots of folks at the Reno plant here learned they'd been laid off after getting to work and their key cards no longer worked. One person I at r/Reno said it took her three hours to get in for the line of angry employees and a guy inside the building pulling the fire alarm.

The only email that went out was at 1:30 in the goddamn morning, the the Tesla employee emails that no one has access to after hours.

    Ain't humans neat?! :)

Big Cybertruck recall after accelerators found to be sticking.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9ezp0lv039o

Had something similar happen to me when I was at university and on a weekend trip out with friends. The carpet shifted and held the pedal down. VERY hard to realize what is going on and tricky to deal with - I was in a manual car so could have tried shifting down with more forethought but I managed to brake down at the cost of wearing the pads. In an automatic, that'd be your only option. EVs could come with an emergency "cut the power" switch but that would pose other dangers (accidental activation).

The idea that it’s an ugly ass vehicle just never seems to occur to them.

In an automatic you could shift into neutral and brake if you were aware enough to do so. That is also not to mention the hand and emergency brakes. Do EVs actually have physical braking systems? I would assume so, but this is tesla so it might just have magnetic brakes which would require power. If the EV is done entirely with servos cutting the power would make the cybertruch just an unguided silver missile with an elon cult member warhead.
