I'm just gonna say, although it may have been said before, that the Boise St. win over Oklahoma was probably the most entertaining football game I have ever watched, and even a romantic proposal after the game. Yup, pretty much perfect!

Ten Years from now they will soooooo make a movie about this team.

Boise State was a team of destiny this year. The atmosphere in Boise has been electric all season. It was a huge win for them just to get to play in the BCS- they went in there with nothing to lose and played a 'go for broke' game, and it paid off.

Wish I could've been downtown last night!! :rave:

Isn't Jim Delaney, the commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, one of the power figures who keeps blocking the idea of a playoff system because the big conferences would get a lesser slice of the pie? Serves the asshole right.

Yep, there was a great NYT story on how the Big Ten and Pac Ten are holding back any talk of a playoff and I forgot to bookmark it.

I wonder if Kirk Herbstreit is crying?

WOW - that was a serious butt-kicking. Last time there was a blowout that bad Flashlight didn't post for a week. :)

76 total yards of offense for Ohio State? After going as the #1 team since preseason? Just an unbelievable game by Florida and Urban Meyer.

Third largest defeat of a #1 team in a bowl game ever. Whoa.

Remember just a month back when people were seriously talking about a Ohio State - Michigan rematch?

One thing about Urban Meyer: If you give him that much time to prepare a gameplan, he's going to whip your ass. A&M played Utah in the first game of the year in 2004. The previous year, A&M had beaten Utah in a close game. In '04, Urban Meyer's offence put on an absolute clinic. He's really good at putting a defense back on their heels, and fucking with their heads all night.

Did you notice how easily Florida exploited the middle of the field all night? They also did an amazing job of getting the ball to recievers in stride in the open field. In the first quarter alone I saw them run at least 6 different plays out of the exact same formation. I also saw them run one specific play out of about 5 different formations. Really impressive display.

76 yards total offense for OSU? You are jerking me; they got more than that on the kickoff return at the beginning of the game. Obviously they're very dependent, at least psychologically, on that runner of theirs who got hurt. Oklahoma won 8 games after they lost Peterson. Obviously State can't deal without whatshisname at running back.

Teddy Ginn Jr. and it's reciever actually. Their running back, Antonio Pittman, was actually the only remotely bright spot in their offense.

Obviously not bright enough. It was a receiver they lost? They were undefeated this year and they only have one good receiver? Florida just flat out opened a can of whoop ass on them. No excuses. Would have loved to have seen a Boise St/Florida playoff game, but whatever.

Sorry, I can't add - it was 82. Which was 74 yards less than the previous low in a BCS game ever (156 was the lowest before this).

Yeah, OSU did have several other good recievers - Gonzalez will be playing on Sundays next year. What happened was their offensive line got destroyed, and their Heisman Trophy winning QB Smith went 4 of 14 for 36 yards and 2 interceptions. Meanwhile getting sacked 5 times for -27 yards. So the Heisman Trophy winner accounted for a total of 9 yards of offense.

Kickoff returns aren't offensive yards of course - that counts as special teams.

    What a complete ass kicking.

Thank GOD we didn't get a Michigan-OSU rematch in the national championship game - lots of folks were rooting for that. If you don't win your conference, you don't go, because all that would have proved is who was the best team in the big 10 - if that, because Wisconsin might have taken OSU. And obviously, that wasn't who was the best team in the nation.

Now I'd love to see USC VS Florida.

Gawd, hopefully this fucking mess will edge us closer to a playoff deal. If OSU had 50+ days off, there was time for a playoff anyway. Take the top 4 teams, and it's only two extra weeks worth of games.

Actually it should be USC vs LSU for the right to play Florida. :) In a playoff, those three teams would be the top seeds, even though they have 5 loses between them.

But honestly, I'm fine with the way the season ended. Florida is #1, I don't think even Boise State folks could honestly dispute that.

But yeah, that's one thing I hadn't considered. The huge layoffs these teams have after ending their regular season means there's TONS of time for a playoff. Excellent point.

    Next years preseason top 5:

    USC
West Virginia - Slayton and White both back, and a year better D
LSU (be higher if they didn't have to replace their QB)
    Michigan
Florida (Tebow will be good, but won't win a national title the first year)

I think BSU should claim the title, just for kicks. Florida and LSU would probably stomp BSU but we'll never know. It's time for the revolution, who's ready to ride on those ass clowns at the BCS! :spaceturk: :shooter: :charge: :pirate: :secret: :crosis: :nick: :paladin: :muad: :marso:

Boise State! 13-0! Lift high that championship banner boys, and tell the BCS where they can stick their computers!

Honestly, why would anyone want to play Division I football? Only a mere handful of teams have any shot of the national title and it's usually the darlings of the voters, like Ohio State, USC or Notre Dame. Other, less glamorous teams, like Boise State, can run the table and be shut out, with absolutely ZERO chance of winning the title or even getting a crack at it. What else could Boise State do?

And 13-0 and only be ranked at #5 in the final poll?

Ok Boise State was a great story and they played a great game against OU. But lets be honest here. Does anyone honestly believe they'd have a chance in hell against LSU, OSU, Florida, or USC?

:diacanu: Oh, I know. Boise didn't have to face a season laced with Texas, USC, or an SEC schedule, but they did beat seven bowl teams, and stepped up to the plate in the BCS. Mythical national titles have been won with far less accomplishments.

If Texas A&M makes it to the Final Four this year, noone will argue that they shouldn't be there because they lack a great basketball tradition. :jayzus:

I could see Boise State as high as #2 actually - but not #1. They played 1 elite team, Oklahoma, in an off year, getting by on trick plays in double overtime, and they played two good teams in Hawaii and Oregon State.

Put them in even an average conference and we aren't talking about an undefeated team here.

They had a hell of a year, but quite frankly even taking out the human element they wouldn't have played for the title - the computers didn't have them in the top 2.

I've change my mind on the playoff system, and I think Boise might have made the final four on that.

But under the rules as established, they don't deserve to be #1.
