See now, Kuranes, you have people responding to that silliness about Michelle by questioning it. So your effort is misplaced, bringing An Obama gaffe in to a discussion where it isn't relevant. Whether or not Bachman said it, I'm sure she in fact knows that Jesus was not a native English speaker, just as Obama knows he hasn't been to 57 states. At any rate, variations on the line have been attributed to various Christian zealots over the years, most prominently a depression era Texas governor who supposedly said it regarding ESL classes -- "If English was good enough for Jesus when he wrote the bible, it's good enough for Texas schools." but there are references to similar statements going back to the 1880s. Probably nobody has ever said it legitimately.
Though anyone who claims that the KJV can be used as an original source is basically making the same claim, just with a bit less overt historical inaccuracy and a bit more mysticism.
Don't worry, in a day or two it will be the new "I can see Russia from my house" How many 'tards still think Palin said that?
Wow. http://publicshaming.tumblr.com/post/75447787843/speak-english-racist-revolt-as-coca-cola-airs Now wait for Archie to claim it's all a librul conspiracy.
How many infinitely 'tardier 'tards forget Palin doing interviews all over the place where she said things every bit as idiotic as anything Tina Fey ever said in mocking her, so much so that there's no real difference between the original and the parody? That Kouric interview with Palin makes Palin look far worse than she looks merely for imagining that the words in an SNL skit were Palin's own. Tina Fey Poed Palin more than she parodied her.
What? You'll need to cite the official, governmental source of this. Yes, yes, we know that English is now the lingua franca. Et alors?
Seems to me more like: "Well, she may not have said it, buuuuuuuuuuuuut....I would totally believe she'd say something like that, so it may as well be true."
This reminds me of Mitt Romney's 47% comment. I think he fundamentally misunderstood the conservative mindset and was just saying what he thought conservatives thought... And here you are applying your own brand of limited understanding to progressive ideals.
