How appropriate that you used a cross icon on an Obama thread. :chris:

I use a cross icon on most of my threads...unless some evil mod changes it.

Mods who change thread icons are clearly babies. :busheep:

I guess all that is needed now if for the [-]fat[/-] crazy lady to sing.

In porjected EVs (I'll come back in a bit and add in %....)

    Electoral-vote.com : Obama 286 McCain 190

    Election-projection.net : Obama 319 McCain 218

    Electionprojection.com : Obama 273 McCain 265

    FiveThirtyEight.com : Obama 336 McCain: 202

    Realclearpolitics.com : Obama 258 McCain 168

    Politico : Obama 353 McCain 185

    CNN : Obama 250 McCain 189

    See also: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/01/battleground.polls/index.html

Gallup : Obama 48% McCain 44% (no EV count there, just %)

Rasmussen : I can't get it to load just now...last I checked Obama had a slight, but growing, lead there...

And this: http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x2882.xml?ReleaseID=1218 shows Obama *leading* in states that were, before now, firmly tied or neutral.

Well, it was a fun race while it lasted. :bergman:

What's wrong with the cross icon people!?

Still, it would be nice to have some icon that...well, you know...could let us know when the thread topic is related to the '08 election.

Well, that's one of the more ridiculous things you're likely to read today. Maybe next they'll try "McCain not going on live t.v. to eat babies has given a lot of hope to Republicans" or "Obama not ZOTTING McCain with a lightning bolt from his fingertips at the first debate has given a lot of hope to Republicans."

I keep hearing that claim made, but I remember the polls being either pretty close, but still in Bush's favor.

Does anyone have any links to polls from the week - and night - before the '04 'lection, that says that Kerry was ahead?

    Hell no.

Even the 'exit polls' had Kerry in the lead. On election night.

Remember when those polls didn't mean anything when McCain was in the lead.

Exit polls did tend to say Kerry was ahead.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A22188-2005Jan19.html

Of course, exit polling use a different, less accurate process than these polls.

And as I would say if the poll showed that McCain had a 7-point lead over Obama, at this point there's still plenty of time for any lead to evaporate. The only poll that matters will be taken the first Tuesday in November.

Exit polls are useless because people tend to lie. Even "traditional polling" isn't that reliable for the same reason.

The most "accurate" poll is one that tracks the electoral college, since that's the only one that counts, as we saw with Bush in 2000- a minority president who won the College.

Many. I remember election day when early exist polls showed Kerry with a substantial lead. Polls only tell part of the story. But I will admit this: The financial market meltdown was a HUGE gift for Obama.

This reminds me of the "THe West Wing" where the republican candidate who was leading in the polls suddenly lost the election because of a freak nuclear accident. If World War Three started breaking out, these polls would be reversed.

None of the polls (good or bad) are good for McCain. And Obama is currently pwning him in the electoral college. Plus the boys over at Intrade have Obama at about a 67% chance to win, McCain about 35-40%.

It ain't looking good for McCain, also since he's given up on Michigan and conceded it. He's pulling his campaign offices out and stopping advertising and mailings there.
