I'm perfectly fine with taking a punishment if I'm found to have broken the rules, so long as the same standards are applied to everyone. That's why I started this thread, because that didn't (and still so far doesn't) appear to be the case.

I don't expect rules to be upheld when no one has shown a whiff of what the offense was and given the long "debate" in Area 51 I'm starting to lean towards 14th Doctor being a bullshitter on the subject. He's already been shown that he is untrustworthy and is a complainer.

If Jamey broke the rule then yes he should be banned. Until someone says where (and don't buy that bullshit argument it can't be done without revealing 14th Doctors name) the offense is then you're not going to get me calling for his head. Understand?

Show me which rules I don't like? In fact I'll answer for you: NONE. I don't have a problem with the rules. In fact in case you haven't bothered to pay attention I'm all for the rule that you said I interpreted perfectly. Usually the problem is you or another mod not bothering to follow the enforcement of the rule. In fact if 14th Doctor is telling the truth and a rule was broken once again you mods have failed to do your job. But the jury is still out on that question.

Second I'd like to make something crystal clear to you and this board members because apparently some of you (especially you mods) are incapable of paying attention when you read a post from me....

#1 I don't whine or snitch on anyone. When's the last time you saw a report post from me? NEVER.

#2 When's the last time you or any mod received a PM or Email from me complaining about a rule? Once. I think. I think I sent Elwood a PM when he removed the pedo rule. Other then that? Never.

#3 How many times do I fill up your PM or Email box with crying over the rules and how they should be changed? For the answer see question #2!!

I would never support such a system where anyone who complains is banned but I do support a system where after being told MULTIPLE TIMES that the rule is the rule that if the poster can't handle it then they should be invited to leave the board. If they don't leave yet keep whining over the rule they should be bounced right out the fucking door.

Does negrepping a staff members post when they do something in line with board policy count as complaining? I did get the concept, you're the one who denied that you were saying people should be banned for complaining after I laid out a hypothetical situation where someone had already reached the point at which you say you would ban them.

I think you might need to walk away and chill out, because you seem to be getting mighty worked up over that when I specifically used it as an example of how I think you should be allowed to do something and banning you for it would be stupid.

I will point out though that if you find some peoples posts that offensive that they make you annoyed enough you want them banned then you should look into this thing called the ignore feature.

It's being discussed. As this thread itself has demonstrated, it's a contentious issue, even amongst staff. Sometimes these things take time - that's the best we can give you.

I appreciate the update, but I don't understand what there is to disagree about.

When garamet put another posters initials in her sig without identifying which posters initials they were, it was deemed a violation of the rule.

When I started two or three threads with titles that included another posters first name without identifying which posters name it was, it was deemed a violation of the rule.

When Jamey used a picture of another posters family member in his av without identifying who that person was or who they were related to, it was deemed a violation of the rule.


I don't see how what happened this time around was less of an offense than any of those other things.

You then said no, you don't think people should be banned for complaining, they should be banned when they continue to complain.

I assumed you were talking about drama threads like this one and the constant stream of similar arguments in the Red Room. It seemed strange you would be so worked up and saying people should be banned over things you never have to see.

Honestly, the real workings of the current private information rule are a complete mystery. The only thing that is for certain is that the practice doesn't correspond to the formula suggested earlier in this thread. And since we're having such a nice long thread about it, I'll throw my hat in the ring and repeat what I have said before:

Let's have a clear-cut rule. Either allow all use of personal information, or no use of personal information, regardless of the source. I'd prefer the first option, but the second option also works. The current vague and complex rule, however, just invites rule lawyerism.

I was banned "indefinitely," which turned out to be only as long as KIRK1ADM was banned. I was also cautioned that "personal information is not to be posted."

Mind you, it was only my first offense.

Elwood finally shrank the moderator staff and kicked Bear off, for one.

I dunno, the post-boycott staff isn't perfect, but I gotta admit it's nice to come into the HD and make a position clear without certain notorious staffers coming in on their very first post and declaring troll on those who disagree with them (*Waves to Cassandra*).
