My understanding is that people object more to the civilians killed by the drones than the terrorists themselves.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunduz_hospital_airstrike

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_casualties_from_U.S._drone_strikes

I'm all for wiping out terrorists, but I can't help but feel there's some level of malevolent sloppiness at play there somewhere in the chain of command.

You say this as though the GOP didn't just try to push our people like Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney outta the party for supporting the impeachment trial :marathon:

    Centrists don't do that.

Even the "reasonable" GOP have been full-on BRIAN BLESSED!!!! for the last 4 years.

The upper levels are giving Marvel's Black Bolt a run for his money. Ironically, they also bolt from anything to do with blacks, unless it's having the cops shoot them.

Rather, the newfound TERM "cancel culture" is an astroturf framing of a natural function of society.
That which is IMPLIED by the *term* - that suddenly snowflake liberals are too fragile to handle conservative ideas and are trying to repress the expression of these noble ideas - is what doesn't exist.

As I've noted elsewhere, I'm not sure I would have fired her, likely not, BUT...

I thought conservatives were staunch defenders of at-will employment?

This isn't exactly in the context of the thread but Obama's big failing in the eyes of progressives is letting Republicans push him into compromises and then never holding up their end - this particularly on immigration where he basically behaved like a Republican thinking this would lead to a big comprehensive reform bill - which the Republicans then refused to support anyway.

I've pointed this out to friends of mine complaining about her getting canned and they don't have an answer. Unsurprising since half of them have worked for state or local government their whole careers.

Same thing with people complaining about Facebook and Twitter banning Trump, the MyPillowBiter guy, and others. All those assholes agreed to the terms of service when they created their accounts. :bailey:

I will agree that firing someone for their personal media crosses a line. I really hate the fact bosses monitor your offline activity for the purpose of firing you. We need to remember the right was happy to support this behavior when people were being fired for social media that showed them hanging out with gay and trans people. The anti drug fascists were happy bosses fired people for social media posts showing them drinking or smoking up. Did they think that sort of bullshit wasn't going to come back and bite them?

Now that it is happening to them maybe we could get a little solidarity on punishing companies for firing you for your free time activities and trying to control your life? How many of these right wing cancel culture people would be happy to know a woman was fired for having an abortion?

the moral fascists like OF who want to regulate what we do in our free time should really think about where shit like that leads. No this does not apply to things like bring your gun or confederate flag to your workplace. That is a whole different issue.

huh? When did I ever say I want to regulate what people do on their free time? Please provide evidence where I ever said this. I don't care what people do in their bed rooms.
I don't do drugs but if people want to on their free time (except for making meth which can blow up their neighbors) I don't care. Seriously what the fuck are you talking about?

The fact that it even needs a disclaimer speaks to Disney’s wokeness.

Again, they are Johnny Come Lately to this. Looney Toons have had disclaimers about the insensitive material for years and even took a shot at Disney trying to pretend their racist media doesn't exist to boot.

    Die mad about it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it might be because Ted wasn't really all that notable or memorable and it's maybe not well known why he was banned in the first place. I thought he just quit coming here.

    What's the story there, anyway?

He was creeping on all the female posters.
Nothing was done until he got stalker-y on a relative of Tamar's.
The hypocrisy of Tamar not liking being stalked back was pointed out at the time.
Everyone was just glad to be rid of Ted though.
Apparently, he still posts at TrekBBs under another name.

I guess I do vaguely remember the creeper business he was up to, maybe. I didn't pay much attention to him overall when he was here. But it's true he's at TBBS. I think his name over there is Sherlock Holmes or something. His latest schtick seems to be copy/pasting info straight from Wikipedia and acting like he's an expert on the subject, even though he never read (or at least failed to understand) the stuff he copy/pasted.

Their lips to FF's tender young ears.

EDIT: Apparently FOX Business carried it as well, because Texans freezing to death and the failings of the capitalist free haven there is to be kept on the down-low at all costs...

Disney is actually being pretty mature about this, but of course FF is up in arms.

There was a comedy skit show called The Goodies on when I was young. It was seen as a "for the kids" version of Monty Python (though at least some eps featured female nudity so it was at best for late teens).

One episode had the characters competing with various "regional" martial arts. The guy dressed up as a French onion seller making "ah hohn-ee hohn!" noises and waving a baguette around would probably still get on British TV if it was repeated these days.

The guy in freaking blackface (as a boxer) would not, and rightly so.

Do the BBC prevent sales of these eps on DVD? No, they just put an advisory on it.

We watched the very first Muppet show a couple years back. They had a major skit about a mad bomber going around blowing up buildings, and the first song ever performed on the Muppet Show was lifted directly from a Swedish porn. :D

Disney making the effort to put it on their streaming service is the exact opposite of cancelling it, dumbass. :jayzus:

And you probably realized that yourself, because then you switched to:
What does woke mean, for the record?
Are you going on record as considering awareness of social issues to be a bad thing? :chris:
