    sigh
so we're going to go into the loop about monuments to slavery and traitors, how there are no wehrmacht memorials, or simply how a statue isn't history?

tell ya what, I won't desecrate graves (reinterment is the opposite of desecration, BTW-although that wasn't on the table in the first place) if you give up on preserving white supremacy.

    deal?

If the liberator of Bajor doesn't get a statue, I'm not sure why Robert E Lee and friends should.

So what Skeezix here is saying is that if a monument gets torn down, it erases the history of something, like it never happened?

Does that mean that if a monument is never put up for something, the event didn't happen?

Like nobody put up a monument to commemorate the cheeseburger I had for lunch today, but I still know it happened because I was there.

Firdos Square, Baghdad, on April 9, 2003.

An outrageous erasure of history, or no?

    Here's a statement from Arlington.
You can read the full statement bellow. God forbid people should learn anything while visiting the cemetery.

Why? How is it not "destroying history" just like removing monuments that glorify the fight to preserve slavery?

You know, Trump correctly caught hell for his comments about dead soldiers being suckers, but if he'd been talking about the people who fought for the slaver's revolt he would've been right. And some of my own family members were among them.

    Why?

One glorified and lionized an evil man; the other glorifies and lionizes an evil cause.

This isn't a monument that says "all these people died, and that's a tragedy." It's a monument that was built to glorify the confederacy and its fight to preserve the right to own human beings.

It absolutely does fucking matter, and you know it. It was picked as a "Fuck you, asshole" to Lee. And "what's done is done" is about the lamest fucking cop-out you've ever posted here.

The simple fact of the matter is thinking about the fact of why it was done, and what the Confederacy stood for (slavery), makes you uncomfortable. You like to pretend that the meaning behind seizing the extremely valuable property of a top general of the Confederacy wasn't important, but it was. Not only did they bury Union soldiers there, they also buried Confederate soldiers there (five days after the first Union soldier was laid to rest there). Do you know what kind of a "Fuck you, asshole" that was to Lee? That meant that even if the Confederacy somehow managed to win that war, Lee didn't dare dig up the graves. He'd have had his own people riled up in his face, and probably re-ignite the war all over again if he started flopping Union soldiers out of the ground.

Sticking a giant monument to the Confederacy dishonors the folks who turned his slave compound into a military cemetery. It's thumbing your nose at the people who were on the right side of history. And the thing was put up 50 years after the war ended. And it's less a memorial to the dead, than an homage to fucking slavery.
There is nothing noble about enslaving people. Slavery is cruelty and atrocity forced on human beings, and anyone who defends that deserves nothing but scorn, at the very least. Slavery was "merely" a thing that the Confederacy permitted, it was, according to the VP of the Confederacy, the cornerstone of their nation. How the fuck can you think people who fought for such a thing are deserving of "honor"?

Well, they stayed the removal temporarily, because the supporters of the monument lied about it. They said that the removal was defacing graves.

So the judge told them to stop the removal until the court investigated. The court investigated and found the 'Southern Honor' crowd had blatantly lied. Again.

The court found that no desecrations of graves had occurred or would occur. After all, they are only taking the statue down while leaving the pedestal for just that reason.

    Removal will be complete today.

    Bye bye losers!

Why? Lee’s property was stolen without compensation. Clearly it was a violation of the fifth amendment.

Who didn't pay taxes on it. For four years.

The Lees fled the property in 1861 and never set foot on it again in their life times.

Lee didn't think his cunning plan through.

Meanwhile, his cousin Admiral Samuel Phillips Lee remained loyal, and married the daughter of Montgomery Blair, one of the most powerful politicos of the time. Lee house was built next to Blair House, and eventually ended up in the 1940s becoming the Presidential Guest House complex, with two other properties joining them in the 70s.

Eleanor Roosevelt requested the houses be purchased in 1942, because evidently Winston Churchill was a cad and would enter the Presidential Residence at whim to consult with FDR. After he tried to enter the residence at 3 am one morning and scared the First Lady, she insisted new quarters be found for him for his visits.

So both the Lee's residences ended up part of the Federal government, one via abandonment and failure to pay taxes, seized by a rebel in ignominy. The other because Winston Churchill was a cad. :D

speaking of which where is the monument to those who blew up the WTC? They effected the american culture a whole lot and are a part of history we should never forget. We should put statues of the hijackers up at ground zero so we remember them like the traitors of the civil war.

Oh wait, that makes no fucking sense at all, why the fuck would anyone do that in america unless they were a terrorist, and anyone who honors those who were traitors to america is themselves a traitor.
