Well this has always been an adult board but it didn't stop you back when you were in 8th grade and posting here.

I didn't start posting at this board until I was a junior or senior in high school.

You obviously have a better memory than I do, because I can't remember ever asking for specific homework help. But even if I did, why would being a junior or senior preclude me from not having problems with homework?

And I didn't even start posting at TrekBBS until the summer after 8th grade, before Wordforge even existed. And after that, the main board I posted at for two years or so was EFCL. :clyde:

Quit derailing the thread, Mewa!

Apparently it's supposed to be about gul's right to be protected from underage posters.

It's not zero moderation and never has been.

It's moderated lightly and editing a title so an underage girl no longer felt violated is "lightly".

It's being blown all out of proportion. I'd expect this level of outrage if Volpone got warned or banned...and rightly so...but because the thread title was altered? Geez.

I doubt you will ever need to worry about it.

There is no need for excessive measures when case-by-case moderation works just fine. A few loud protestors notwithstanding.

    Exactly.

Fuck the kids. Teenagers ain't nothing but a hormonal, irrational pile of insecuritites, neurosis, panic and acne cream. And they wear stupid pants.

They should get back to doing what America has said it wants it's teenagers to do; Get half-naked on stage, gesticulate wildly and lip sync some top 40 cacophony.

    Just as God intended.

So, to sum up, the "kids" need to act mature and develop thick skins and take whatever smarmy sexual bullshit is thrown at them or stay out of the RR.

This is the only way the "mature men" can feel safe.

    Got it.

Well Tamar, it's the pressure cooker in action. Yes, it seems small in the scheme of things, protecting a young girl from getting hurt in the RR. But there are a a couple of larger issues at work here.

    1. The whole having to coddle minors in the RR that's being discussed in several threads at the moment.

    2. And the cumulitive effect of high handed descions by the staff of this board and the 'If you don't like it, suck it' attitude that the staff has when members complain.

    It's very interesting.

So, why does TKO have to take it and not complain or she is being coddled but the moment Mrs A. had issue with something questionable some of you very people were calling for Ted's head? Saying how no one should have to put up with feeling victimized or violated?

No one told Mrs Albert to suck it up and deal with it. :bailey:

    As for the Staff. *sigh*

It is well known some members of the staff are not cut out for PR work. What they do, they generally do well though.

She doesn't have to take it. And it's not MY issue. That being said though, she got on that slippery slope herself. How far along do you allow things to go before crying foul is no longer justified?
Oh, and I wasn't here for THAT Ted thing.

Maybe she was comfortable enough when it was Storm but not comfortable when it was someone else?

There are many things Storm or Elwood or You could say to me that wouldn't bother me that might if someone else said it.

Or maybe she was putting up with it, trying to keep a good face on things in an appearance to look cool and fit in? There have been plenty of times I kept my yap shut, because spouting off wouldn't have solved anything.

If TKO was my daughter I would probably be asking why she has been posting messages promising to post pictures of her breasts to a group of strangers.

Not much since no-one has done anything actually illegal.

The typical American obsession with your goddamn constitution. The reason free speech exists as a right in your country (and many others) is because it is the right thing to give people.

Or to put it in simpler terms, just because something can be taken away, that doesn't neccesarily mean it should.

    Who knows.

But once she did complain and said she was uncomfortable we couldn't just ignore it.

The minimum was done to satisfy the complaint. Some people just won't ever be happy until WF is TK. And that isn't going to happen.

Yes...quite. A situation that upset someone was discreetly remedied. No one was warned. Just a modest change to the thread title that, by everyone's own admission, had nothing to do with the content within it.

I don't disagree. But the reason given out for the protection was that she was a minor, and we didn't want to risk pontential legal trouble.
And that's my problem with minors in the RR now.

So you'd rather ban all minors from the RR, instead of dealing with any possible incidents on a case-by-case basis? I mean, this is the ONLY time something like this has happened, as far as I remember.

The right to free speech is in the Constitution because it needed to be put there at the time. And because, yes, in a public context, free speech is an inalienable right.

But Wordforge is *private property*. That means the people who own it make the rules. Think of it as McDonald's requiring its employees to wear uniforms. You don't want to wear a uniform? Go work somewhere else.

And while you can be forgiven for not knowing U.S. law, in point of fact sexually harassing a minor online is a punishable offense. It's why the FBI has agents prowling MySpace, etc.

We can go around this a thousand times. The change of a thread title is still a very, very minuscule thing for so many people to be pissing their pants over.

I'm sorry you disagree, but I don't see us banning minors anytime soon when it is much less restrictive and in keeping with Wordforge in general to deal with it on a case by case basis.

There in not and never will be a rule set to cover every eventuality. The main thrust of moderation here is judgement calls based on a basic set of rules and "common sense". I would much rather deal with any mistakes made later than create a restrictive environment where no one has any fun and groups of people are locked out when the majority can handle it just fine.

The facts are the actions taken were just, we are not going to start taking extreme measures because a few people are paranoid...we will continue to deal with problems as they arise. If that means occasional mistakes and uneven moderation...so be it.

It beats the alternative all to hell.
