My guess is we have a more detailed announcement on Eps 7-9 within a day or two. There's no way Ep. 7 isn't already being worked on if it's going to make a 2015 release.

They'll bring back as many recognizable characters as they can. Han Solo can cameo a bit, Mark Hamil...isn't dead yet. Carrie Fisher can play a female Jabba the Hutt - kind of a Cloud Atlas double role. The robots are always available. Maybe paint C3PO green or something. That's a nice message. Yoda's dead, but his ghost is clearly CGI. Lando is on NCIS next month so he's probably available too. Him and Han can hang out together and meet up with some wookies.

But then there'll be a new generation of characters that will feature.

Wow. It's astonishing what an absolute nakedly money-grubbing sell-out George Lucas has turned into.

I thought the story was over, George? You couldn't possibly need the money.

Wouldn't it be more likely basement dwellers have now more reason to stay alive to see this?

I hope they give this to Christopher Nolan. I'd love to see what he could do with this.

And after 7-8-9 come out, I hope they go back and redo 1-2-3 so we can forget they ever happened.

Let's also consider what else Disney is getting: THX–1138, and of course...

I like what someone else somewhere pointed out, now they can put both Star Wars guys, and Howard The Duck into Kingdom Hearts.

You know, considering how much money Lucasfilm has made over the years (don't forget they do CGI for lots of movies and TV shows), $4 billion seems a bit cheap. Could George have blown his cash on something we don't know about and now needs the money?

Good point, he wipes his ass on 4 billion, the action figures alone made more than that.

I see no reason for Disney to hold to any further notion of trilogies, to use established characters/actors, or to conform to any "expanded universe" literature.

I expect they won't redo any existing episodes and I think it would be ill-advised for them to re-cast any of the original actors. My guess is that they'll go forward in time a few decades after RoTJ and have some new threat emerge and some new Jedi (the order having been re-established by Luke Skywalker) and their friends will be the main characters.

I can't wait to experience Hoth at Disney Star Wars.

Oh and the speeder bike ride roller coaster through a forest. Imagine sitting on the speeder bike and zipping through a forest while laser beams and explosions go off around you. It could be a new type of coaster car.

Since this is Disney, I wonder if they are now going to sing songs in it?

I would like to hear Jabba sing about licking a young, nubile Carrie Fisher.

$4 billion is a lot of fucking money.

I think George just wants to retire and he wants Lucasfilm in the hands of someone that can be trusted and for better or worse out of Hollywood the only one you could trust not to be total fuckups would be Disney.

Paramount and all the rest of them would probably wreck Lucasfilm. Disney probably understands just what it has on its hands now.

Yeah, or retrofit the flying ride at California Adventure to be speeder bikes. That could totally work.

If they were ballsy they would recreate the Epcot Ball but three times as big and looking like the Death Star on the outside but put a roller coaster in it.

    "Attack on the Death Star"

Simulate the surface attack and then the Falcon's run into the Death Star and then the explosion and for a proper effect the last part of the ride is through a plexiglass tunnel (for protection) and on the outside of the tunnel is fire as you shoot out of the Death Star.

They're interlocking companies. And if George wanted $4 billion and could wait a few months, all he'd have to do is release the restored (but unenhanced) OT on Blu-Ray. I'm thinking if he ain't dying, he needs money now. Either way, its a curious development.

Here's what I think George has said to himself: George, you're 68. You don't have the vitality to make any more films. You're not breaking any new ground with anything you're doing now. You're done running the whole show. Why hold on to this asset that you can no longer use? So the lawyers can carve it up when you die? No, cash out now, make sure your family is set, put your best creation in dependably solid hands, get a cushy office where your ideas will still be heard, and spend the rest of your life taking it easy.

Disney has bought them as well.

I think it's just Lucas thinking about what 2 billion in cash actually is.

The right time to sell if he didn't have the heart to make a new trilogy himself.

Wait, what? Did this just happen?

I hope they don't fuck it up, but Disney is capable of making decent flicks. I thought Tron Legacy was pretty awesome. Shit, they should get the guy that directed that to do the new movies.

That would require George to admit that he was wrong. We're talking about a guy who has lied about so much crap (Star Wars always said "Episode IV" in the crawl, Greedo shot first, he'd written the scripts for all 9 movies before he ever shot Star Wars, there were only 6 movies ever planned, etc., etc., etc.), who spent decades fighting his neighbors to build a movie studio, and then when he gave up, sold the property to people who're supposed to build low-income housing and the like, because he knew that would be the most appalling thing he could do to fuck over his neighbors that they couldn't object to, because it'd make them look like total shits. Let me also throw in that the rumored reason why we won't get the untouched versions of the OT on Blu-Ray is because if George did that, he'd have to pay one of his ex-wives a bigger royalty check.

That's the guy we're talking about here. And you're saying he's suddenly gotten a clue? I'm not seeing it. Either he needs quick cash, he's about to croak, or he's going to see to it that Disney fubar's the next movie so badly that he can say, "Neener, neener! You thought my movies sucked, look at this pile of shit made by somebody else! Its ten times worse than anything I ever made! Fuck you, assholes!"

Just a quick comment on this who shot first bit. It implies a second shot, when in fact it was only ever Solo who shot at all. Greedo just lunged over, dead on the table. :bailey:

Greedo wasn't innocent, he was a cocksucka.

What's this "shot him in cold blood", bullshit?

If shooting people for being cocksuckas is "in cold blood", then yes, I want to shoot people in cold blood.

    Huh? What?

Or are you pushing the Lucas Kool-Aid that Greedo had to fire to demonstrate Solo isn't a bad man?
