On Twitter you select accounts to follow, and you can choose to create lists which are subsets of those accounts to display. Someone could just use a list to follow Wordforgers accounts. A few of us follow each other and occasionally interact on there, but Twitter is very much it's own thing.
My condolences. That sounds like a universe of desperation and despair that I will gladly stay away from. Thank you for your insight into that realm and you have my reverence for your sacrifice in going into such an unholy land to bring back news.
Twitter is very much a place where what you get out of it is directly proportional to the effort you spend curating your feed. It can be the spammiest most mind numbing place, or it can be really useful. On there I mostly follow people from my industry, and others whose views challenge me.
News drops on twitter first these days. I started paying attention for that reason alone. Not always verified, mind you. Now that we've receded from the madness of the last 4 years, I've spent less time there. Yes, the pandemic is still very much an issue, but I'm not horrified by the thought of the federal government actively making it worse anymore.
I only got on Twitter to follow politics. And when it all gets too much, I drop off Twitter, quit all Facebook political groups. And even stay away from wordforge. Here’s hoping for at least four years of unnoticeable politics.
Ditto. I see people who are following several thousand accounts and I'm thinking "WHY?" You can't possibly see every tweet from someone you follow so what's the point? If my follow list gets much beyond 150 there's not enough time in the day to see it all. And I'm pretty obsessive about seeing it all. So I follow: Blue Jays beat reporters and less than a dozen local fans that I met in the blogging community a small handful of MS reporters and other smart views on MS politics Some half a dozen really good historians Quite a few people related in some way to trans activism maybe half a dozen IRL friends less than a dozen news/political reporters or commentators Basically most of it is designed to be an RRS (am I getting that right?) feed of news that interests me or observations on that news
The repetition on social media like FB and twitter is insane. Everyone has to resend and make tiny similar comments on every meme, statement, or political article. I get it enough from news and message boards. Also, a message board does not post a picture of trump every time someone speaks about him. I need a break from some thing and things like twitter is just an IV of internet stupid pumped into your brain involuntarily through your eye sockets. I have too much stupid in my life to follow it in a never ending feed of gratuitous idiocy. I can just imagine what is going on and I do not need to watch it. It is pretty much the same reason I do not watch reality TV stars.
