    The protests continue in Iran.
On May 20, 2023 the revolutionaries in #Tehran start protesting with the slogan:

“This year is the year of blood, Khamenei will be toppled”

Nowruz (Persian New Year) was March 20 this year. So the year just started for them.

Uh… My partner is getting super nervous. The regime is threatening retaliation.

When the regime retaliated for the original killing of Soleimani it ended with their own air defense system shooting down a passenger jet which had her favorite uncle, his wife and their Canadian children on board.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukraine_International_Airlines_Flight_752?wprov=sfti1#Canada

They taught at a university in Canada and had visited during winter break.

Same as my partner is doing. :/

ISIS have just claimed it. Which at least doesn't escalate the existing clusterfuck since everyone hates them.

Something to keep in mind is that ISIS has claimed credit for attacks they weren’t actually behind.

On the other hand ISIS is Sunni (in their statement they refer to the victims as practitioners of idolatry) and both Iranian-backed militias in Iraq* and the Iran-backed Assad regime in Syria have been fighting ISIS.

So… Yesterday Iraq recalled their ambassador from Tehran over Sepah/IRGC launching missiles into Kurdistan.

Well today Sepah/IRCG launched missiles into Baluchistan (southwestern Pakistan).

So now we have an escalating situation between a nuclear power, a possible/soon to be nuclear power with another nuclear power (that HATES the the first nuclear power) standing on the sideline.

    Yay.

But America isn’t involved so it is all good.

Didn’t you hear? ISIS was created and is sustained by the Mossad.

For real. That is now the official Iranian government position.

Point of nuance: India doesn't hate Pakistan (while Pakistan seems to hate India). The fact that India seems to be siding with Iran over this (when India would opt to help Pakistan if shit hit the fan) means shit's going sideways.

I suppose it makes sense that Mossad would try something new after faking the Holocaust, doing 9/11, and sinking the Titanic... :chris:

According to my partner Pakistan just bombed a city in Iranian Baluchistan, Saravan.

Partner is currently at the airport in Tehran waiting on their flight and can’t get out soon enough IMO.

Like the Kurds the Baluchi don’t have a country but are clustered in the Baluchistan provinces of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.

This is decidedly not fine. I don't see how this ends well.

And we've too many threads about the overlapping fronts of this conflict.

Not everything in SW Asia is tried up in the Israel/Palestine conflict.

"These strikes are being conflated with other hostilities in the Middle East; while they may signal increased nervousness and the exacerbation of tensions, they are separate and part of a much older friction." @suzanneraine.bsky.social

Counterpoint. As my partner (Azeri Iranian) said these are only Balochs the Pakistanis are killing so the (Persian) regime probably doesn’t care that much beyond Face.

Oh, FYI for those following my partner is currently midatlantic. Got bumped to Business Class, not like their stubby little legs needed it. Literally too short to reach the foot rest.
