In case anyone was thinking Iran scored a point by finally killing an American after a 100+ of these drone strikes on the real market the Rial has dropped from 510.000 to the USD when my partner left a week ago to 560.000* today and is continuing to drop on the real (black) markets. 10% loss in a week ain’t great.

*why does everyone else do decimals v commas wrong? A comma looks like this: , and means a thousandth, a millionth, a billionth, etc. A decimal looks like this: . and means you are going from whole numbers to a percentage of a 1. This ain’t hard rest of the world.

    It matters.

Just because you a kid and never left the country and had to deal with big currency nominations like the (what is the opposite of the Nuevos Pesos? Altos Pesos?) also Spanish Pesetas, Jamaican J$ and German DKs doesn’t mean this isn’t actually a problem.

Honestly you of all people should understand the issue.

Other countries doing math wrong, especially when you are in vacation mode is a serious freakin issue.

Imagine you being in your regular mental state and translating a language and also currency and also fucked up periods and commas!

    It ain’t easy!

India does commas and decimals right... well, kinda.
1,000,000,000 in India is 100,00,00,000 (100 crore; 1 crore is 100 lakh; 1 lakh is 100 thousand; every thing below 99,999 is the same as ours)

It's great that between the Americans and Jordanians, they can't seem to figure out which side of the Syrian border this base was on, don't you think?

The base was in Jordan, it provided support for a US base in Southern Syria. This is not in question, nor does the Jordanian government dispute this. Indeed, Jordan has condemned the attack on it's soil and put out a public declaration that no Jordanians were killed in the attack.

We all know where the base is. But the Jordanians were trying to deny it, because American troops are about as popular there as the British Parachute Regiment is in my part of the world.

Ah, so decrying the attack on their territory while telling everyone no Jordanians were killed was an attempt to lie about 'which side of the border' the base was on. Got you.

This "creative re-imagining" of what people post (as well as what your own links say) is really amusing.

Your link states that Jordan does not publicly disclose the existence of the base. As such it does not quote any source decrying an attack on their territory.

And as this one states, they claimed the attack was in Syria.

This is what my source says: In a statement on Jordan’s state-run Petra news agency, the country “condemned the terrorist attack” that targeted the U.S. troops. That report described the drone strike as targeting “an outpost on the border with Syria” and said it did not wound any Jordanian troops.

On the border of Syria means in their territory. Otherwise it would be an outpost in Syria on the border of Jordan.

Don't worry, everyone else gets it.

It very clearly doesn't mean that, since they say the incident was in Syria.

    Here's another link.

You mean the one with the article that starts this way?
    That article?

The on that says this is Jordan's first official statement of the attack, as it says in your quote. Which means that said government spokesman was not giving an official statement at the time of his comments - could be he was just wrong.

But no, gotta be a conspiracy theory.

Jordan is requesting more US defense help, not less. As it goes into considerable detail in the AP piece.

But yes, I'm sure they are worried about all the Palestinians they've accepted into the country getting violent again.

After all, this is a country where Palestinians murdered King Abdullah I, Prime Minister Warif Tal, shot King Hussein in the chest, and launched the Black September uprisings to overthrow the Hashemite Kingdom so they'd have another base to launch terrorist attacks against Israel.

This led to 40 years of martial law.

Gotta watch out for those murderous pieces of shit Palestinians who believe they have the right to murder anyone, anywhere, so they can kill the Jews.

Yes, that one. Now you're pretending that you don't know how quotes work.

This is really fucking stupid, and you're starting another rant about Jews.

Jordan doesn't admit the presence of the base. Therefore when there's an attack on the base, they maintain that it was a few miles away, in Syria. That's all and it's a pity that you need to be such a compulsive liar about everything.

Sorry but you are just in conspiracy theory land. The royal decree allowing the US troops was put out by the palace and published in the largest paper in Ammon. It was a big deal at the time (2021) because it wasn’t signed on by parliament.

Their presence is in no way a secret.

LOL, no, I'm not ranting about Jews, I'm pointing out the history of Palestinian violence in Jordan. Which is why they have to be careful about the possibility of more Palestinian violence in Jordan.

But it certainly is no secret that Jordan signed a defense agreement with the US that allows US unfettered access to multiple Jordanian bases - in Jordan, which evidently I have to add. LOL.

It says 'which Jordan does not publicly disclose.' That doesn't mean that they say there are no Americans in Jordan, only that they don't discuss the location of that base.

Could be for internal PR, could be to try to protect it from attack, could be both.

You'd know things like this if Ireland had military bases. Or a military. :D

    So, we're all agreed then.
Once one American rocket enters mainland Iran, every nuke on the planet will fly, and even germs won't be left.
This is the end of everything.

Well, this will certainly calm things down. The targets were an Iranian defector and his wife living in Maryland.

Oh good. Because Iran is going to sit still and allow itself to be bombed, without another escalation. This is fine.

Do you know that there's a conversation in the UK media now about conscription? Part of me wants them to try it.

The group that launched the attack on the Jordanian outpost near the Syrian border that killed 3 US soldiers has made a very unusual statement.

It has said it will no longer attack US troops, to avoid 'embarrassing' the Iraqi government.

Kataib Hezbollah is the most powerful faction in the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of hardline Shi'ite armed factions that have claimed more than 150 attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria since the Gaza war began.

...“What happened was a step too far and has put everyone at a dangerous crossroads” an Iraqi official said after the armed group contacted the governments.

85 US attacks against targets in Iraq and Syria, described as "the start" of the US response. A very significant escalation, probably a lot of casualties. We'll see if there's a response from Iran or their allies.

The government of Iraq has condemned the actions and protested the violation of their sovereignty as usual, but who cares, right?
