    Thank you.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've seen a lot of folks on the left unconditionally defending Hamas on this. "You can't tell other people how to free themselves" and "decolonization has never happened because of diplomacy, periodt," and "Y'all say Free Palestine until they actually try freeing themselves" and assorted bullshit like that.

What's sad/hilarious is that a lot of them acknowledge that they live on "stolen land" in North America, so this sort of talk amounts to them preemptively justifying their own murders at the hands of aboriginal folks. I bet they won't see it that way if it happens. :bergman:

Hmmm. You don’t suppose some intel that Trump leaked/sold/blabbed to the Saudis played a part in this, do you?

Where does he think they can go? He won't let them leave. This is a threat of genocide.

This is where Biden can support Israel publicly and militarily, while making it clear in private that if they do go after civilians the support will go away.

    Supposedly it is a mistranslation:

The "leave now" quote is a mistranslation. The actual words used are "צאו משם עכשיו" which translates to "leave *there* now", which refers to the previous sentence in which he described Hamas locations.

With power to Gaza off it's questionable how much of the population there will get any messages.

That makes more sense, Hamas loves using Palestinians as human shields.
I'd think nearly every in Gaza would know it already from prior experience. If Starbucks and Tim Hortons got into a shooting war tomorrow and there were bombs flying, I sure as shit wouldn't go into the office this week.

Supposedly. What about the rest of the quote? Making Gaza a deserted island and targetting every corner of it? He must have some pretty bad translators.

And turning the power off is already a criminal action.

Sure, but it's not like Gaza is a large area with clearly demarcated zones.

Netanyahu hasn’t spoken to the public today. Some reports suggest he rejected ideas to expel Ben Gvir and Smotrich and bring in Gantz and Lapid because “what government will I have in 3 months”. He has no grasp of the fact that he’s toast even if he can actually govern for a moment and def if not.

What's the alternative though? Not attacking Hamas?
I dunno, if you formally declare war on a territory, are you legally still required to supply them with power? Fucking around with the power without a full declaration of war is definitely unsportsmanlike, but in an actual war I'd say continuing to provide power to enemy territory falls under providing aid and comfort to the enemy. I'm not a lawyer though. :clyde:

Yup. Hamas isn't in the "free Palestine" business. Hamas is in the "destroy Israel" business. That's what too many people fail to understand.

That's a different question/line of conversation. One of the first responses was Israel destroying a residential tower, it isn't as simple as not "going into the office" to know how to stay out of the way.

Yeah, a residential tower with Hamas offices on the main floor. And the article posted about it here said they fired some kind of warning shot first, leading to zero casualties related to the destruction of the building.

    What more do you want?

I'm not interesting in getting into this fight you seem to want.

The claim was that those living in Gaza would know where is about to get bombed and where isn't from prior experience, with the analogy of simply avoiding going into the office. The counter is that the dense nature of Gaza means there aren't really any places that can be assumed to be safe places to evacuate to

    That's it.

Devil's advocate: How many Palestinians in Palestine are protesting Hamas today? American lefties had #imsorry trending after Bush won re-election, where's the Palestinian equivalent of that movement? :chris:

I think the worry is more Gazans = HAMAS.

West Bank has been relatively quiet. I can see Israel going Wrath of God in (bad) Gaza while sparing the (good) West Bank.

On the international stage it makes it easier to say you aren’t punishing ‘the Palestinians’ just HAMAS and their supporters.

I'm always shocked that people are shocked about how evil Hamas is.

They say that there can never be peace with Israel. They say that the nation of Israel must be destroyed, and that the End Times of their religion are dependent on the destruction of Israel before final Judgment Day. They say that every Israeli hiding behind every rock and tree should be murdered.

And this isn't their extremists - this is their fucking Charter.

OF COURSE they'd slaughter a group full of people rallying for peace. It's what they fucking are.

And let there be no doubt about it, this is about the Peace process. This is in reaction to the Saudi-Israeli peace plan, and the normalization of relations between many other Muslim Arab nations and Israel. Can't have that.

You know, just like their forebear Islamic fundamentalist terrorists did. They killed Anwar Sadat, President of Egypt, for the Camp David Accords. He gets the Nobel Prize and a bullet for making peace with Israel.

They tried to assassinate King Hussein of Jordan for making peace with Israel, and then tried to usurp their government, because they wanted Jordan to attack Israel again. They did the same thing in Lebanon, leading to the Lebanese Civil War.

When Arafat finally realized he couldn't achieve his dreams by violence and started the PLO down the path toward at least detente with Israel, Hamas attacked the PLO, leading to blood in the streets, Palestinian fighting Palestinian.

When Israeli athletes went to Munich for a peaceful gathering of all nations in sport and competition, they slaughtered them in their apartments.

This goes all the way back to the formation of the PLO, trained by Hitler's death commando Otto Skorzeny.

And even a decade prior to that, when the Mufti of Jerusalem allied with the Nazis, lived in Berlin during the war, and presented this draft for Arab Cooperation:
Germany and Italy recognize the right of the Arab countries to solve the question of the Jewish elements, which exist in Palestine and in the other Arab countries, as required by the national and ethnic (völkisch) interests of the Arabs, and as the Jewish question was solved in Germany and Italy

How many times do they have to tell you who they are?
