Well, one could argue you just made it a RR-thread.

Just realised how i could've reacted also...
    Would've been funny as well...
Ah well, i've never been good at on-the-spot jokes/snappy comebacks...

I had heard good things about those PMAGs, but hadn't been able to examine one until I was at a gun show two weekends ago.

    Very cool.

I've got a few Orlite magazines that I picked up cheap a few years ago and, while they are fine magazines, those PMAGs appear to be much better.

I plan to buy ten or twelve of them very soon.

Meh. I'll stick with my cProducts magazines. Same innards as a PMAG, just in a metal body, and at 2/3rds the price.

We don't get the LE discount. ;)

According to their websites, the retail price for both is within a couple of bucks (with cProducts being the lower-priced one).

The PMAGs I saw on the table at the show were actually a little cheaper ($0.50?) than the retail for the cProducts. I'm sure the latter could be found cheaper than retail, too.

cProducts = $9.99 each (Marlube finish, CS spring, magpul follower)
PMag = $15.99 each (CS Spring but no window) $16.99 (SS spring w/window)

    No LE discount needed. :nyer:

A lot of people suggest only loading 30 round magazines with 28 rounds. Makes it easier to seat the magazine with the bolt closed.

I posted on this at AR15.com, and I felt like folks were going to shoot me when someone suggested I load 28 rounds. :o

Well, a lot of serious gun people disagree on the 28 vs. 30 round technique.

I agree. I've always loaded the full 30 and never had a problem. I guess YMMV.

Probably in a little bit. I have to meet my savings goals for the quarter, and I pay cash for everything. :(

That said, I found on my barrel where it says 5.56 and 1/9.

    Is a 1/9 twist ok?

IIRC, the rule is, 1/9 is good for 62ish grain bullets and below...

...however, I've heard of people shooting 77 grain bullets out of a 1/9 barrel with no problem. I guess it's one of those YMMV things.

What is, in your opinion, the best rifling to have? 1/7?

That's a matter of opinion, and another one of those things that even the experts can't agree on. I'd say that unless you're interested in shooting 69 to 80 grain bullets, then a 1/9 is your best bet. It covers the range of the more common sized bullets nicely. The only reason that I'm aware of that the U.S. uses 1/7 barrels is so they can shoot tracer rounds.

I got a 1/7 because I was interested in the Hornady 75 grain TAP or maybe the Nosler 77 grain rounds for self defense ammo. It means that my accuracy won't be as good with 45 grain, or possibly even 55 grain bullets, but that's the choice I made.

BTW, I've shot a lot of both 45 and 55 grain stuff out of mine, and I'm happy enough with the accuracy. It's not like I wanted it to be a varmint gun.

Its fine. Just don't shoot anything higher than 69gr and your accuracy wont suffer.

Its a matter of preference. I'm a MILSPEC (TDP) nut. So for me I stick with only the 1:7 twist. But the 1:9 twist should do you well.

What did the M16 originally have for barrel twist? Wasn't it something freaky high to make the bullets tumble once they hit target?

1:12. The barrel was thinner and it was originally designed to shoot a 55gr (M193) round. With the intorduciton of the M16A2 the US moved to the NATO 62 gr (M855) round and the heavier barrel was needed. The M16A3 and the M4, M4A1, and M4A2 all use this heavier barrel. You can fire M193 though an A2 and above all day long with no problems. But you are not supposed to fire M855 through an M16 or M16A1 barrel.
