Sounds like an average pickup truck over here. I remember driving a Dodge full size pickup over there. It was quite a challenge at times, it being American spec and all. You were baically driving in the ditch all the time.

It has nothing to do with any of the factors in your rather weak attempted troll. Its more to do with southern city dwellers going all the way up to very rural north yorkshire and sticking out like a jupiter-sized sore thumb

I think my point is dickhead, they are English, you are English. What exactly is it about them that legitimises your compliant that they shouldn't be there?

    english?
That means little, a rural frenchman or a rural german has more in common with a rural brit than a rural brit and a city brit. And that goes for other countries as well. In summer these people stick out so far and are so comically displaced. They have imposed themselves (in large enough numbers to basically destroy wherever they move to) onto a place where they simply dont fit.
I never said they 'shouldn't' be there, i certainly wouldnt approve of a law that restricted it, but i do think its negative

You still haven't answered my question. Why do they "simply not fit"? Do they not fit for any reason other than your personal and baseless dislike of wealthy southerners?

Its nothing to do with wealth, at all. Its a difference between large city and extreme rural attitude.

I see things have not changed since I lived there. I remember thinking how the UK was like the US turned upside down. Here we have the Yankee from the big cities in the North coming down to the Southeast and ruining things. There you get the people in London area coming North and ruining things. They want to retire to the country, yet they try and make it just like the place they left, no respect for country ways or country living.

So what is the difference in attitudes then?

Thats a very large and complicated question which to answer fully would take several million words.
The basic problem is that they are not there to be a part of the community in which they are staying (unlike everyone else who lives there). They are just there to stay a while enjoy the surroundings, pretend they know something about the country and to leave again, adding nothing to the place they are staying.
The worst thing about it is the numbers in which it is happening. There are places round here where 2/3rds of the housing is deserted for most of the year. This can be seen most evidently when comparing these places to similar places in the peak or lake district, where its much harder to buy second homes due to much stricter buying laws in national parks. These places have suffered only a little compared to similar places in North Lancs and Yorks

Just as an add on to this thread and contrary to the first post it's interesting to note that since I have been on crutches the people of London have been extremely courteous in opening doors for me, carrying things for me, allowing me to move through staff only parts of restaurants and getting table service in pubs. I've been really impressed.

The solution for this, and for all problems involved with living locations, is quite simple: Move to Canada! Anywhere will do, just so long as it isn't Quebec or near those god-awful Newfies.
