    Uh huh.

CLEARLY he's talking only about tourists.

    Reading is fundamental.

LOL. This from someone who can't even read quotes when they are pointed out for her? Missing it the first time I understand, missing it when I pointed out only that passage makes you appear to be sticking you head in the sand and shouting 'la la la.'

Or, I suppose you could be sticking your head somewhere else.. .

Yes, I did notice it. Which is why using the IMG tag seems such a good idea when posting a picture claiming someone else is dumb.

    But hey, that's just me.

But I'm sure the millions of hits Wordforge gets precludes any use of said tag.

For the record I am not a racist. The point is not about me disliking people for reasons of race, religion and/or language- I'm engaged to a middle eastern muslim for fuck's sake (albeit one that doesn't practice) - it's about feeling one's own identity is being compromised in favour of others from foriegn shores. It is not racist to identify that if I were to go to any other country, islamic or otherwise, I would have to accept the ways and traditions of the land and I would take it as a given that those ways were not to be disrespected or replaced by my own. How, please, is that even coming close to racist?

Yeah, sure buddy, that's what they all say. Some of my best friends, etc etc. :shitstorm:

Wow, that's more than best friends!

Of course, if she were still practicing, I have my doubts. :(

Why do you feel you have a right to a superior culture? Why do you get to determine what the 'appropriate' culture is for the British Isles? :bang:

Sorry, just having some fun. :D

Of course, it doesn't come close at all to being racist.

I just found it worth commenting on that so often Americans make that point and the PC police descends on them, certainly with a snide comment or two about the angry white male or the inherent racism of white people.

I was curious what the difference was, when normally the exact same thing is getting stated.

Hell, the backlash against illegal immigration gets that. The vast majority of people that post on this board are for legal immigration. There's a subset that is against illegal immigration, and they are often derided for it.

Guess we should move to London, eh? :D

El Chup is a cool guy. I saw no sign of him being racist. I would imagine he has the typical racism we all have. He appears open to meeting all kinds of people. He deals with all kinds of people in his work. He does not live and work in an all white enviorment like many in America do.

Sorry its taken so long el chu..........

I agree with you here, Londons system is by 21st century standards obsolete, go to any city with a new MRT system installed since the turn of the century and you will see how the underground could work, although it would need massive investment.

Saying that, Londons public transport system is fantastic in comparison with the rest of the UK.

You have already said you are in London to make some money off property. For that to happen to the extent it has happened in London you need the overpricing you detest.

Paying £5-£8 a day to actually move about in a vehicle in central London will actually save you money in the time you would lose sat in traffic pre congestion charge. Particularly with your lawyer charge rates. ;)

Thats not just London mate, the whole of the UK suffers that particular ill

    see answer to moody bastard.

You chose to live in a world city, with all the economic benefits that come with it. Along with this is the foreign workforce which is needed to service the high flying elite.

    Go private dude. ;)

    aye.

Emigrate mate, its the only thing for it. ;)

That's about it really, and I do understand what Demi is getting at. This issue that I raised ultimately doesn't have anything to do with race or religion or denying people their place in this world. If anything it is about all people being able to express themselves and enjoy the way of life that is natural to them without threat. All I am saying is that the jam and jerusalem of England that I grew up in is being diluted in favour of polish sausages, hijab's, carribean jerk and albanian video shops. I'm happy to enjoy all of these things, but I just want to retain my little section of England for myself and those like me without but I know that this PC brigade would most definately be out in the event that I stood up and said that I just wanted to walk down the high street and see one of two things that were still familiar to me, which frankly isn't the case any more.

My mum was really annoyed recently, she's a teacher, and her school had a "cultural awareness" day or something.

She was really looking forward to Irish/Carribean/Indian/Chinese/African/Welsh etc Dancing/Food/Art

Apprently they had one indian food stall, and the rest was all "RnB" shite and only foods that were considered "black" food, without any distinction between them (i.e. Probably all Jamaican, but nothing said so, there was no islands disctinction, nothing obviously African), and she works in a Catholic school. A Catholic school, and not even one set of Irish dancers....

When I was in primary school, we had those cultural days, but we actually covered lots of things, so there was a point to it.

When I was in primary school we didn't have cultural days. That says it all IMO.

What can I say - I like day's off with cheap homemade food.

I'm more pissed off that my borough didn't provide meals, it was all cold packed lunch in primary school. Sandwiches in winter isn't enough dammit!!

What you say reminds me of some crowded Asian cities. The problem is people are packed too tightly together, and that creates HUGE demand for things like restaurants and bars. They know they can treat you like shit because if you storm out of there and never come back, there will be another 100 customers who will gladly take it up the ass.

Some outdoor restaurants in Hong Kong will just bring you the food, and you'll be lucky if you really got what you ordered. It's "eat it, or get the fuck out and someone else will." It's become so unbearable that I don't even bother with those places any more.

This is one of the few advantages of urban sprawl, in that it doesn't create excessive demand. You've got one restaurant, that is potentially serving thousands of people, and sooner or later, the restaurant is gonna figure out it doesn't need to treat customers properly to stay in business because there will ALWAYS be customers.

London sounds like a complete shit hole - not only the way you describe it, but the way some of my friends working there describe it too. (One is a lawyer like you, and the other is a geologist.) You just got to get out. The added advantage of working in London is that when people hear that, they think that if you can be successful in London, you can pretty much be successful anywhere. So picking up and settling in a less crowded city should be relatively easy for you.

"When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." ~ Samuel Johnson

Personally, I loved living in London. It was never dull. I'm not sure I'd want to raise a family there, but I had more fun there as a childless adult than anywhere else.

When your after peace, hills, green, nature, a distinct lack of southerners, no pollution, no dirt and shit and litter and no crowds... London has fuckall to offer :)

Well, like I say the problem is a little more complex than that. The fact is that in order to move out of London I need to get the other half to agree and at the moment that's not going to happen, especially with her sister knocking out her first sprog in Kensington.

Uhh, every village round here is half-empty most of the year round because all the houses are now owned as second homes by southerners.
In fact many of them have brought in rules that a certain percentage of housing has to be sold to people who have lived in the village x number of years.
Dent for instance is almost deserted now for most of the year, then every summer it gets filled up with chelsea tractors and pointless toffs who have no clue whatsoever

Massive SUV's that will never ever go off road.
Bought only to be compared to other SUV's by fat stupid women on the school run.
London is chock full of them, 7 foot wide, 15 foot long and weighing 4 tons, perfect for narrow city streets....
