Disney employs artists and most artists are not straight white christian men.

However, the majority of visitors to Disneyworld appear to be straight white christian families.

Disney has been balancing the two for decades - until DeSantis stepped in.

If he gets rid of the artists, Disney loses everything.

If they keep the artists and DeSantis continues his idiocy, Disney loses.

Disney will have to take down DeSantis on their own.

Youseem to be assuming that DeSantis put some thought into this beyond the immediate satisfaction of owning the libs. :brood:

Yes, the issue is that Disney focused on building a theme park rather than films people pay to see. Of COURSE straight white folk flock to Disneyland - it's the only attraction for miles unless you fly and then you might be exposed to liberals or furriners. But cinemas are global.

One of the former attractions was Splendid China, which featured a miniature reproduction of the Great Wall. It drew some flak from Tibetan advocates and the rumor was that it was funded by the Chinese Government as a propaganda effort. I went there with an ex girlfriend back in the mid 90s. The place was basically a ghost town. It closed some years back. :spock: ETA: interesting Wikipedia article if you can be arsed to look it ip.

I almost did a skit of gay days at Gatorland with a Tim Curry impersonator singing "sweet transvestite" while the gators sing backup.
The kids in the audience cheer, and the uptight parents cry and throw up in their popcorn baggies.
But then, I remembered; Tererun hates Rocky Horror, and would have unloaded a phone book size rant at me.
Good thing I held that one back.

For someone who supposedly hates religious fundamentalists, they sure are on your fucking love list.

Just as it is with police, I must either shit on them as a monolith, or accept my role as their doting lover, with no room in-between for individual, situational nuance.

Arguably it becomes that when you start race-swapping characters instead of creating new ones.

race swapp ... Cinderella was released in 1950. Regardless of the original story, it was written with all white characters and "christian values". Other than modern writers attempting to FUCKING INCLUDE all humans on the planet. I've no idea what you're talking about.

None of that explains race swapping (or gender swapping, gay swapping, etc) instead of creating new characters.

I can't believe that the Disney mafia insist on breaking into UAs house and replacing all his DVDs so has to miss out on the pure Aryan beauty of Ariel. :(

Congratulations UA, we can hereby crown you the heir to the Dayton throne. Take your prized seat, where you may spend all day complaining about how Starbuck isn't a woman.

Yes, I can't believe they corrupted the Disney original creations of characters such as Cinderella and the Little Mermaid.

Content warning. Triggering material of artists not respecting the original character and changing it into something it never was.

I dunno if you've noticed, but Disney isn't putting much energy into anything new and original, regardless of the color of the actors they cast. And of their countless bland, uninspired remakes, they have only changed the race of the lead in **ONE**.

    Cinderella was still white.
    Belle was still white.
    Aurora was still white.
Snow White will probably be white once they circle around to fucking that shit up too.

Just because Walt Disney's great-great-great trans grandson got the Just Say Gay CEO sacked (which was the ONLY reason they pulled support for that bill BTW) doesn't mean anyone is fooled into believing they give one whit about rep or diversity in any meaningful way. They want money.

But honestly? If the 3 to 8 year olds of the 20s get to see themselves reflectef in their media, it's hardly the worst thing Disney will have done even this year.

Weeeelll, technically Jasmine went from generic Middle Eastern to generic Indian, as her mother was foreign in the remake.
