Not a big surprise though. I was thinking maybe Black Cat or some other Spider-Man character was going to show up.
Saw Venom: Let There Be Carnage Random thoughts (no spoilers)... - Fun and fast-paced, but probably forgettable. It's not quite as good as the first, maybe because it isn't as fresh. You won't be bored, but you won't be challenged by the plot, either. - Woody Harrelson's Cletus Kasady isn't as much fun as I was hoping and the filmmakers (weirdly) try to give his character a sympathetic angle that (1) doesn't work and (2) is undercut in the finale - Naomie Harris' character (Shriek!) is gleefully evil one moment and then morally objecting to the evilness the next - I actually enjoy the interludes with Anne (Michelle Williams) and her boyfriend Dan, as they tend to keep the mood from getting too dark - We get more Mrs. Chen in this one and I didn't know I needed that! - Some characters in the film are dicks only to make us not feel bad about their being killed. - Uh, more about Ravencroft, please. Is that going to be part of a bigger thing going forward? - Not sure what was going on with Mulligan in the end, I think I missed something. - The finale is fairly thrilling, but it is largely a CGI fest. - This one feels almost like a TV episode in that it jumps right in without giving the viewer much of a recap. If you didn't see Venom, you'll be wondering what the hell is happening for the first quarter of the film. - There is one mid-credits scene (no post-credits scene) and it's a doozy: If you liked the first Venom, I can't imagine you'll be unhappy with this one. It doesn't push out the frontiers of comic book films, but it's a good enough way to spend 90 minutes. 6.5/10.
Agreed, Shang-Chi was a lot of fun and better than I expected. From the trailers I wasn't expecting much from the lead, as the scenes they choose to show made him appear very wooden. But he has a lot of charisma. IMO it was one of the better of the more recent MCU movies.
https://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/shang-chi-and-the-legend-of-the-ten-rings.121922/ Can we all agree that this thread is about upcoming MCU releases? Once a film or television show has been released, it should have its own thread. Anyone who violates this rule should be permabanned, and forced to watch the Star Wars prequels until their eyes bleed. Change my mind.
I liked Shang-Chi more than I expected, too. It's solid middle-tier Marvel, better than Ant-Man and Black Widow, a bit behind Dr. Strange and Black Panther.
Dr. Strange was on tv last night and I hadn't seen it since it first came out so I forgot how much action was packed into that movie. In light of everything we've seen Strange in since and the No Way Home trailer, I'm really looking forward to Dr. Strange 2.
Will Poulter is Adam Warlock. In Guardians 3. After James Gunn lied his ass off, and said Adam was just an Easter egg, and we wouldn't see him in 3. https://www.darkhorizons.com/will-poulter-to-play-marvels-adam-warlock/
What I'm wondering is if Thor will be in GOTG 3 as he was last seen on board their ship after Endgame. ... Endgame was the last one, wasn't it? or am I getting my titles confused again?
Endgame was the last one with all the characters together. Spider-Man: Far From Home, Black Widow, and Shang-Chi have come out since. But Black Widow is an Infinity War and Endgame prequel.
That's weird, since Disney can't make a solo Hulk film without Universal or whoever, and because World War Hulk is a direct sequel to the Planet Hulk storyline, the core of which was already done in Thor: Ragnarok.
No, Disney/Marvel acquired the rights to the Hulk character in 2020. Universal still owns the Edward Norton movie, though.
Bill Murray is going to be in "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania". https://www.darkhorizons.com/bill-murray-in-the-new-ant-man/
CHUDs are gonna blame the LGBT characters. But not in a bigot way. A logic way. Even though they're going to be screaming, and not at all calm and rational.
I'll be seeing Eternals, of course, and will try to go in with an open mind, but, yeah, the top critic reviews on RT are pretty down on the film. Even the positive reviews are mostly qualified. Mick LaSalle of the SF Chronicle drops this one on it...ouch!
MCU has had such a stellar track record, they were bound to have a big stinker at some point. Black Widow was middling and one of the weakest MCU films. Shang-Chi was pretty darn good. But other than the upcoming films and TV series with the "core" characters, there's not much I'm jazzed about post-Endgame.
I feel like the MCU is a victim of its own success. If/when they do a hard reset of the universe some day they'll lose a lot of the audience momentum because this incarnation of the MCU will be "done". Spiderman 3/Doctor Strange/Loki/What-If is clearly trying to set up things such that they can do reboots while keeping it part of the MCU but I reckon it will end up like most comic series where the weight of its own continuity becomes too much.
oh yeah... there was a trailer for Morbius when we saw Halloween Kills. Who keeps casting Jared Leto, and why?
