Warning this thread might contain some horrendously big files :D
Today, nice day out in the garden after the rain fecked off and the sun came out. Heres a cat, an orb spider building a web, a weird bug, a closeup sundew and a fly feeding.

Dan. Seriously. Why are you not making money with photography? You've an excellent eye for composition and your technical skills certainly seem to be there. You should be roaming the globe with National Geographic or something. Damn, dude . . .

    Dan, here's a suggestion:
I don't know if you know websites like:
    http://www.fotolia.com/
    http://www.istockphoto.com/
    http://www.sxc.hu/

but they are collections of stock material on offer for web designers & others, and you can make money on them. To qualify, usually you have to send in a couple of good quality photographs, after which you can upload your photos. Other people can then download them for a small fee (or, if they pay a lot, exclusively) and you get credit for what you sell. Once you have a certain amount of credit (I think over $100 worth), you can transfer it in cash to your bank account.

There are probably easier ways to make money on your photographs (e.g. enter competitions), but this came to mind. You can also browse the sites for inspiration of what people want photographs of, or what photographs are rare (and thus either unwanted, or a excellent opportunity).

What was that camera you're using again?

Managed to get a shot of the moon before it dipped below the horizon tonight.
It's much more difficult with this camera than my old one as i could poke my old one right into the telescope lense. With this one i have to use only the lowest magnification lense (the biggest one) and i keep getting glare off the inside of the telescope lense.
I got this shot after about 20 tries

Although judging by the quality and amount (about 1.2 million)of the other pictures up there i seriously doubt i'll ever sell one :D

I've been trawling through my old pics looking for something to upload to that photo site when i came across this. Took it ages ago, not sure if i ever posted it here. I took it late after a long night out with mates, it was all a big drunk and stoned haze by this point. I got the pic by balancing the camera on an old beer can that was being used as an ashtray and took a long (2sec or so iirc) exposure. A weird (but easily explainable) crosshair appeared right in the middle of my brothers head :D

Man, not only should you be selling your work, you should be using it to get hot girls to take their clothes off for you.

Quite a few hot girls have seen my pics as ive plastered them all over the kitchen at work which 3 departments use, and i've had a lot of compliments and everyone likes them. :)
Offers of clothage removal are so far unforthcoming. :(

Oh, its one of them things where you need the first one to get started. You need to get a plain gal to do a seminude and make her look real beautiful, then things will roll.

Volpone, man, that is sooo lame......

.....nobody's going to take their clothes off at work.. He should remove all but a few pics at work, wallpaper an entire room in his appartment, and casually mention to the girls that he's got more at home. ;)

I somehow doubt that gal would be happy for me to show her semi naked self to all her friends, in order to move up a notch on the nudity/hotness stakes ;) :D

Keep it respectful and make her look hot and you would be surpised. There used to be a place in the local shopping mall that did that kind of thing and once the gals saw how good other women looked, the place made a bundle. It was one of those fad type things though, haven't hear about it in years. I don't think I could ever do that type of thing though, even if I knew how to use a camera ;)

By the way, we want more pics. Get to work!

-edit- though for the sake of your sales, I'd suggest posting here at only 72 dpi and with much smaller sizes - if people can find your pics for free, they won't be tempted to pay for them, and googling for 'Dan Leach' in google-images leads to Wordforge...

As impressive as Dan's pics are can I make a request for more "out and about" snaps for variety? Garden pics, park pics and planet pics seem to be all we've seen so far. How about holiday snaps, day trips, social occasions, more indoor shots and all that?

Ive uploaded a load of full size ones to fotolia.co.uk . They sell stock, royalty free pictures. At the start they go for 57p each but the price goes up if i sell any. I doubt many of mine will pass the rigorous acceptance though...

Tsk...humility is all very well, but when others see you have a talent, it becomes false modesty.

But...I take pictures with a disposable 35mm.

the stuff people are looking for are not just the pics Dan posted in his link. People look for pics simple objects as well. The two pics I've bought off of Fotolia so far were one of a typewriter, and one of a pen, to make a banner interface for my website. The silliest objects sell - cups, glasses, books, just about anything. It's not just about holiday pics, but also about generic, non-personal stuff. If there are any sightseeing locations, it would be good if Dan took some decent pics of them, from multiple angles, so companies wanting to use the image don't have to spring for a professional photographer.

-edit- although a search for 'bee' gave me more than 2300 hits..
-edit2: if you use the search engine without pressing 'go' you get a list of the number of hits for a particular search - that could be an indication of whether or not to go ahead and photograph an object. But even if there are hundreds of images of an item, yours could be just the one - just the right angle, the right color, the lack or abundance of background, etc.
