A photograph of star trails is made by pointing the camera at the night sky and leaving the shutter open for a long time. As the Earth rotates, the stars change position in the sky. The long exposure leaves circular trails on the photograph. The star in Dan's picture that doesn't have a trail (because it hasn't moved) is Polaris--also called the North Star--which is almost perfectly aligned with the axis of rotation of the Earth. All of the other stars appear to revolve around Polaris.
Couple more star trail shots. Hopefully it will clear up again and i can get a really good one... fingers crossed
The christmas cactus has flowed late this year. It produces amazing flowers so i thought id get a pic or 2 of the first few small ones
Quite a few more, I knew i was in infolab today, knew the roof access would be open and knew it would be good weather. Great view from up their, good representation of North Lancashire Remind anyone of The Shire?
Woohoo!!! Thats 3 sold in total, take that Van Gogh!! Its this pic http://www.fotolia.co.uk/id/1246137
Went for a mega walk today, Out on the back roads towards the docks at Glasson, then about half way there i made my way down onto the canal path and walked that all the way back into the centre of Lancaster. Mixed bag of pics
Lovely as always. I like the duckie with the grass stuck to him and the buildings (pic number 7) in your most recent add on the best!
Woah Someone at work told me to send some pics to the BBC. After talking to their web editor for a bit they decided to give me my own online gallery! http://www.bbc.co.uk/lancashire/in_pictures/photo_galleries/index.shtml Scroll down and click on "Dan Leach's gallery" woohoo!
Well done Dan, good to hear. Any snow your way today? It would be a rare(ish) opportunity to take some snowy snaps of the country!
No Feckin typical, the whole copuntry gets dumped on apart from here. We had a few flakes a few hrs ago but no snow lying on the ground Pity, i really want a shot of the lakeland fells with snow on the peaks. Maybe another time
I'd really appreciate it if a coupla people left a comment or two. Doesnt have to be positive, id be happy with constructive criticism http://www.bbc.co.uk/lancashire/content/image_galleries/dan_gallery.shtml
Like the one with the train might edit it a bit to clean up the mess on the walls and remove the tower blocks in the back ground.
Woah like that one, is that flash off snow? As for the one with the train, that could be a nice pic, what it really needs is contrast Lighten the light and darken the dark a bit
Most pics need running through something like photoshop or paint shop before they look ok. Even very good pics usualy need slight tweaks to equalise lightenss or contrast or a bit of a re-crop
Very nice work on that site, Dan. It's obviously the cream of your photographic crop. Speaking as a professional, my only real "constructive criticism" would be to work on your composition. Good composition is what sets a real photographer apart from someone who just takes snapshots. Use leading lines, horizon position and depth of field to really take your work to the next level. Keep up the good work!
