No reports of chemicals being transported, but then we'll have to wait and see because Norfolk Southern lied about non-hazardous materials with the East Palestine crash, too.

It's almost like railroad workers had warned NS and the US Dept of Transportation repeatedly that cut corners and lack of adequate safety protocols would lead to this.

I live next to 4 sets of train tracks (literally, you can throw a rock from our driveway and hit the track), near a switching station, and one town over from several large chemical plants. I hear trains running through our neighborhood every 20 - 30 minutes, and I can't help but wonder if our little town might get to be in the news.

People have been told that the water in East Palestine is safe to drink, and I'd like everyone to know that is utter horseshit. They're letting Norfolk Southern guide the narrative. Too many times people have been told something is safe to do, safe to go, safe to live, and time and time again it has been found that the opposite was true. East Palestine's going to see a fuckload of cancer patients in a handful of years, and goddess knows who else upwind and downstream from the town will get the same, and in the end, nothing of consequence will happen to the people responsible.

PBS Newshour just ran a story about the spill and talked about some town hall meeting or something. Norfolk Southern didn't attend and released a statement saying that they were concerned about increasing threats against their employees.
