    Signed up.

It did seem too easy although havent read the rules so not sure how many transfers will be allowed when teams get knocked out.

At the moment my team is that good I can afford to have Evra, Schnieder and Higuan on the bench! Higuans only on the bench at this stage because I don't trust Maradonna to have the sense to play him.

Signed up and flung most of a team together, then autocompleted... See what happens, I may have to do some emergency surgery to the squad come next week ;)

No European team has ever won the WC outside of Europe... I expect that to hold, especially as Spain tend to choke at the WC, so I've invested somewhat in South American players.

I think Brazil will win, with Argentina being possibilities due to Messi's form and the Maradona factor even though their qualification was a mess.

I expect Paraguay to do well, defensively they're a bit dodgy, but they do well in attack. South Africa should also surprise - host nations tend to do better than the form book so Group A could be interesting - I wouldn't be too shocked if SA and Uruguay were the top 2. May stick a tenner on it...

^American football... Yeesh. Every 10 sodding minutes you take a tea break, and the players are more padded than the groin of in incontinent.

It's sport for the gayer end of the ADHD generation... ;)

I really fancy Holland this time I've got to say, although my enthusiasm to dump some serious money on them has been halted by Robbens injury.

If your into your sports betting though, you will get tiger woods at 6/1 for the US open. Thats unheard of. Its at the venue he won by 15 shots, 10 years ago and yes he is playing shite but he still scored pretty well at last weeks Memorial tournament.

Here we go yet again. Always there will be an American who makes the same tired old post.

For the record, there are millions upon millions more people in the world who refer to the game as Football, and not soccer. You are are masicely outvoted on this one and you know what? I absolutely love it that none of you can stand it.

Football, is a game played with a ball at one's feet. That gentleman appears to be carrying a rather large egg in his hands. I therefore decree that your sport be renamed American Handegg.

    1) While Scorp may be a dirty Chinaman to most, he's Canadian, not American!
    2) "none of you can stand it".... Not exactly the case. Don't go lumping me in with that crowd. Nice sweeping generalization, though! :jayzus:

Actually, I believe I should offer an apology to Scorp. He's one of her majesty's subjects and I had the nerve to refer to him as one of the world's village idiots.

That was nice! They were way outnumbered (I counted seven Polish players around the three Spanish players), yet they controlled the ball all the way in. The goalkeeper never had a chance.

I've got a real good buddy who is both a huge football fan and Spanish (even though he has lived most of his life here in France). I can imagine he has high hopes right now.

I am having a tough time figuring out who to cheer for in this world cup of socca'! :soma:

It is true we are still under the harsh thumb of Queen Elizabeth, but it doesn't mean I need to cheer for England.

I have a lot of Korean friends who are cheering for S. Korea. But after continually making fun of their garlic smelling kim-chi breath, it would seem hypocritical.

I ain't cheering for a communist country, so Canada, China, and the United States are out of the running.

Japan seems like a good fit, since they invented Hentai. Which is good. But they also gave us tub girl. Which is bad!

I'm also not cheering for an African team, because I don't like Africans.

Hmmm....this might actually come down to who's got the hottest wimmins.

Im more under the queens rule than you :bigstall: , and I won't be looking for an English world cup win either so you are sorted on that count.

In terms of hottest wimmin, then it's got to be Brazil.

In terms of who to really cheer for, then lay a sportsbook bet on someone with a reasonably decent chance of winning and go with them. Keeps it exciting.

Im with Holland and an outside E/W on Portugal.

Hey, you can call them both football for all I care. Other than the Super Bowl or World Cup (Copa de Mundo for my Brazilian relatives...) no one who watches one usually watches the other.

Too bad SA didn't pull it off. A draw against Mexico is pretty great though.

So bear with me here - why are referees only being trained to recognize English swearing? Why not French, German, Dutch or Spanish?

Seems like some pretty blatant bias there, no?

I was worried that SA would lose all 3 games, great to see them get a point, and score the first goal of the tournament.... and a right screamer :)

^I said the host nation tends to surprise - look at South Korea 8 years ago, made it all the way to the semis.

Funny how the football pictured above has almost NOTHING to do with the feet! In fact, the players who use their feet the most, Kickers and Punters, are generally not considered to be "real players" by the rest of the team. It is a very poorly named sport. Maybe it should be "American Rugby".

France have been hopeless since Zidane retired. No way will they be making another final this time.
And PLEASE for the love of god, would the South Africans stop blowing those fucking horns! Can't understand why this piece if shit instrument is so popular. It totally drowns out the singing, chanting and cheering from the real football fans in the crowd. What a horrible blight on this year's tournament.

Agreed. The horns are terrible and very irritating and they completely spoil the whole cup experience. What's the point of never ending buzzing or droning noises? They certainly don't show support for either team and after about a minute and a half I end up pressing the mute button.

I thought the horns were fun at first, but now they remind me of tinnitus.

Argentina look frightening in attack, but not exactly stable in defence.

And Greece... Can't them scoring, let alone winning a game.

Think Group B will finish up Argentina, SK, Nigeria, Greece.

Three hours until USA/England. England hasn't walked into a trap like this against Americans since the Battle of Saratoga. :enty:
