    48) A huge mistake by a crew of contractors during an engine refit means the Enterprise must deploy to a dangerous sector woefully underpowered. Goldstein, Stafford, and Townsend struggle to come up with a viable solution even as Townsend is distracted by terrible family news. Goldstein is again forced to consult with one of his ex wives regarding the ships problem (see episode #39)

Seeing as you hate divorcees, is Goldstein something of a cretin? Or is he a hero?

He is intended to be a maverick of sorts. A rare officer who has obtained high rank despite never attending the academy.

I hate divorce but even I realize they happen for whatever reasons

And El Chup surely you don't think that I'm proposing a Trek Series that conforms perfectly with my personal values and beliefs do you?

    O'Brien then.
Well, you've said more than that in the past. You've suggested that divorcees are immoral and a lower class of people. That's why I ask the question. Why would you put an immoral or lower class person on your ship as a hero?

Well, yes I do. You've said plenty of times that you want a Trek series that matches the type of Trek you want to see.

The type of Trek I want to see is a little flexible on some issues.

And IIRC O'Brien was never a command level officer.

He was the Chief of Operations. Hell, in the final episode he was offered a professorship at Starfleet Academy. Hardly a grunt. He just didn't have a commission.

Fine. That's the difference. Some thinking a commission is a pretty big deal.

Extremely heavily armed and armored, the Enterprise outguns virtually any starship in the galaxy in both ranged and close combat. Only a Borg Assimilation Complex or her own Terra class sistership rival Enterprise in power. In addition to multi layered shields Enterprise featured advanced armor including layered ablatives.

For weapons Enterprise features a staggering phaser array of 24 Mark XX phasers arranged so that any target can be attacked by at least 6 of the phasers simultaneously. For true "one shot, one kill" capability Enterprise features a 3 chambered Mark X superphaser cannon mounted on the underside of the saucer forward. This so called "gun" has a valuable a valuable anti small craft role as well. Fired at maximum dispersal it can create a cone of destructive energy across a 30 degree forward arc out to 100,000 km capable of vaporizing most ships smaller than 25,000 tons.

For projectile weapons Enterprise mounts 10 multi use launch tubes with a shipboard magazine capacity of roughly 8,000 weapons. Weapons range from simple concussion missiles normally used for rare close support missions capable of leveling an area of about 500 square meters cleanly to transphasic plasma torpedoes equivalent to 90 of the Constitution class era photon torpedos.

If Enterprise somehow loses all its weapons it has a structural integrity field powered by a dedicated antimatter reactor giving the hull the effective strength of collapsed stellar matter. This allows Enterprise to engage enemy vessels through controlled ramming.

Enterprise features multiple redundant and easy to repair and restore systems. Life support systems features 7 levels of redundancy and can theoretically be operated manually if enough crew members are available (1,200)

Enterprise features 116 permanent research laboratories including one of the few shipboard exotic matter generators in the Federation. Long term accommodations are maintained for up to 2,000 scientists to remain in basically permanent residence aboard ship. Some scientists have resided aboard Terra class starships for more than two decades.

Because of the high profile of the Enterprise and its incomparable defenses the ship is frequently used for high level meetings and conferences. To this end the ship contains 50 specialized staterooms and adjoining conference rooms that can be modified to accomodate the physiological and environmental needs of virtually any Federation, Allied, or non Allied species.

The 4 hyper impulse engine systems can push the vast bulk of the Enterprise to .95c over time and give unparalleled manoeuvrability. The ships transwarp drive system enables the ship to maintain a velocity of 6,750 times the speed of light indefinitely with brief surges to 7,800c

    58) The dedication of the new Starfleet Headquarters at the old Kennedy Space Center in Florida prompts a reunion of a large number of Starfleet personnel. But old animosities put Tower in the unfamiliar role of peacemaker. Townsend encounters her family for the first time since the war.

Tower visits an old flame from the academy aboard her first command, and wishes to take the opportunity to apologize for the embarrassing encounter on their last date. During dinner in her quarters he excuses himself to use the restroom. He overflows the toilet and discovers she is out of toilet paper. Hilarity ensues. The episode closes with her saying "Really, again?" As Tower is beamed out.

The enterprise being able to outgun any other ship surely makes a boring series. Episode 1, enterprise blows ships up, episode 2 enterprise blows ships up, rince repeat

It does not outgun Borg Assimilation Complexes.

And in regards to the others it can be outnumbered.

And was TNG or DS9 really boring series?

The Enterprise-D was according to the Borg in "The Best of Both Worlds" the "strongest ship in the Federation fleet".

And the Defiant according to Gul Dukat was "one of the most heavily armed ships in the quadrant".

In TNG the enterprise was the strongest ship in starfleet. You seem to be suggesting it should be one of the strongest in the galaxy. In TNG, everyone seemed to be shitting themselves at mention of a Romulan war bird.

    Again, what about the Borg?

And against a more "conventional" opponent, the Enterprise can always be outnumbered.

During the last two or three years of World War Two, the U.S. Navy virtually always outgunned the Japanese fleet but lots of those battles were still pretty exciting

Flicking through WF this morning i saw the Independance Day2 thread which is interesting given your quote above on WW2. Reminds me of Bill Pullman shutting down Brent Spiners character who has no concept of reality......

exciting? People are dieing out there, exciting is hardly the world i would use to describe it

You know what I meant. Besides World War Two ended 70 years ago. Most of those who died in it would've been dead by now anyway.

In real life, the vets who make it home often come back with PTSD. Maybe some crazy horses will call it exciting, im not sure the majority that are in actual shit hit the fan life or death battles say the same.

Fair enough saying a sci-fi tv battle could be exciting, using a real life situation however :wtf:

And you wonder why people have the opinion of you that they do?

Dayton lives a fantasy where war is glorious and romantic. I can only assume his father never told him of the suffering he witnessed during his service (assuming he did). I find his attitude ironic since of all the people on this board, you just know that Dayton is the first person who would avoid service at all costs.

Tower and his crew face a serious problem. The only person that can help is a former officer Peter Stone that has been confined to a Federation mental facility for several years. Tower visits Stone to find the solution to their problem. When they get discover that Stone has been kidnapped and held against his will by a Pakled. The Pakled holds Stone and forces him to tell stories about space battles. Trying to reason with the Pakled, Tower discovers that the Pakled is a coward that finds war exciting and hates that he is forced to be among females at the facility. While Tower is telling the Pakled about his space battles, his crew finds Stone and rescues him. The Pakled is furious when he finds out what happened and Tower refuses to tell the Pakled about anymore space battles. Stafford informs Tower that the Pakled suffers from an incurable mental disorder.

Actually my dad did talk a great deal about several of the people he lost.

And you have no reason to think I would ever avoid military service.

    1) You have no evidence of that whatsoever even though as a "lawyer" you should know something about evidence.

    2) Even soldiers IIRC are supposed to use their judgement regarding orders if necessary.

    3) My dad never volunteered for the military either. He was drafted and served well.

You're an idiot El Chup. Pure and simple. And when you go whining to the moderators remember you started this in this thread by attacking me.

Are you totally incapable of talking to be withing the implication that I am not what I say I am but putting the word lawyer in quote marks? It's so incredibly insulting. Have I ever claimed you aren't a teacher? Don't answer, just think about it because you're making a joke out of the apology you made to me over PM.

    Additional information regarding Captain Tower:
Tower prefers to use a shuttle or other small craft when going planetside (and sometimes from ship to ship) than the transporter. This appears not to be related to fear of the transporter of any kind but a simple preference for the solitude of a shuttle flight. Tower's predilection for extreme in flight acrobatics tends to ensure that very few people ever fly with him. When returning to the Enterprise, if he has plenty of time, Tower is known for conducting mock strafing runs on the ship for relaxation. Because shuttles and other small craft are not nearly as quick as a transporter, Tower has perfected a very unorthodox, high speed descent known as the "Tower Fall".

Tower seldom carries a Starfleet issue phaser. He often carries a very large and bulky energy weapon thought to be of Gorn manufacture. The weapon is difficult for most people to carry much less aim accurately but Tower seems to manage both. He has two of the large weapons. Both are far, far more powerful than most other sidearms. Where he acquired the weapons is a mystery.
