Wouldn't Starfleet have rules about personnel carrying unauthorized weapons?

Captain Tower is well beyond petty regulations about what he does on his own ship.

    Beats me what surprises you.

What I do wonder is why you find it annoying in the first place.

Who said I find it annoying?

I just find it interesting that the character that is essentially an avatar for yourself is the one that is a swaggering hero figure that clearly things he's beyond the rules.

Why would you find that interesting in the least El Chup?

Have you never heard the saying

"Each man is the hero of his own story"

What I find interesting is the contrast in the fictional version's traits with the real life version's lack therefore. I get the feeling that this guy is the person you want to be.

Well of course it is El Chup?

    Wasn't that obvious.

The character of Carson Tower (originally John Tower but there are a U.S. Senator by that name from Texas and I like the name Carson) is meant to be a character who is so staggeringly good at what he does (in the case of my proposed Trek series, what he does is defeat the enemies of the Federation, especially the Borg) that his power and authority is effectively unlimited.

He is so needed that he can essentially do what he wants, when he wants, for whatever reasons he desires.

My foremost ambition to replicate that in coaching football. As Dan Darlington former head championship football coach of Morris, Illinois told me regarding how he and his assistants were treated,

"We could basically do what we wanted".

After they won state his defensive coordinator and best friend (and my future boss) desperately wanted children. So one of the schools boosters an OB/GYN found a couple of different young women who were pregnant and convinced them to let coach and his wife adopt their babies.

Another championship coach I knew of here in Arkansas owed 18,000 dollars on his car and went to the bank one day to make his monthly payment.

Instead the banker handed him the title and told him it had been paid in full.

When I win a championship, no matter what school it is in, no one will tell me not to show so many videos in history class or that I can't teach a unit on serial killers. In short, success for me means freedom.

So you fantasise about being a dictator, a meglomaniac with unlimited power? That's what this Carson Tower sounds like. The Kim Jong-Un of space. As a viewer, I'm not sure that would be a particularly appealing character.

Not in the least. In the context of a proposed series I saw him as a tortured soul. Beaten down and eventually broken by the sheer weight of responsibility cast upon him until he suffers a breakdown near the end of the series.

IIRC there is an episode description where he ends up staying on a farm belonging to a former Starfleet officer to recuperate.

I thought your interest was simply in what the character said about me personally. My desires are more modest.

To become a head football coach, win championships, leading to more money, more babies, more books, academic freedom and the like.

How is the responsibility "cast upon him" if he takes upon himself to break the rules? If he has a breakdown through that isn't he the author of his own misfortune?

Sounds like a remake of TNG's "Family".
Well this is about a proposed Trek series isn't it? What a viewer would think is relevant.
So what does he desire that makes him more extreme? Power? Control? Domination?

The responsibility for billions of peoples lives.

If you're going to remake a TNG episode you could do a lot worse than "Family".

You keep switching gears El Chup. Making it seem your inquiry is about me then the proposed character. Please make up your mind.

He wants to fix the galaxy. And he wants it to stay fixed once he fixes it.

He wants a peaceful galaxy with no threat to the Federation whatsoever but with the Federation (specifically Earth) ultimately having benevolent control over everything in existence.

Needless to say, that is unrealistic.

"Benevolent control"? What if races and planets don't want to be part of the Federation?

And thus you see why what he wants is unrealistic no matter his talents.

But why would he want control over others in the first place? Control is control. Calling it "benevolent" doesn't change that. The Federation is meant to be an alliance, not a controlling force. No?

Everyone in the Trek universe doesn't have the same opinion about what the Federation is supposed to be? Any more than people have the same ideas about the United Nations today.

Nobody ever intended that the UN is an empire that seeks to control the whole globe.

Sounds to me as if Carson is the very sort of megalomaniac I described above - and that makes him sound like a character in whom there is little to like. But we're meant to still consider him a hero? He sounds ,ore like a villain. Sounds like you're trying to go for the Tony Soprano angle.

Out of curiosity what do you find amazing about it? I kind of thought a major character who didn't like to use the transporter not out of any particular fear of the device (like McCoy, Pulaski, or Hoshi) but simply because they liked to chill out during a shuttle or small craft trip might be an interesting change.

Rather than venturing into "new" episodes I've been thinking about going back and providing more details of existing episodes and extra information about each character and also go into recurring guest stars.

    Anyone interested?

Captain Malcolm Frasier- Commanding Officer U.S.S. Discovery (Galaxy Class)- character age mid 40s, actor-mid 30s. Frasier was in the same graduating class from the Academy as Carson Tower. He was number two in the class while Tower was number eight. The other members of the top ten all suffered horrible fates.
Frasier was a standout running back on the Academy football team and won the Heisman Trophy his final year. After being drafted by the NFL team in Jacksonville he served in Starfleet on half duty his first four years while playing football. He returned to full time duty after a series of knee injuries.
Frasier developed a career long love for Galaxy class starships and he sought assignments that put him closer to command of such a vessel. He finally achieved that dream some years ago when he was made the CO of the Discovery. Frasier has literally "written the book" on the Galaxy class with more than one published regarding the proper use and tactics of this class of vessel.
Though the Galaxy class is no longer the ultimate assignment in Starfleet, Frasier has no plans to seek any other Starship command. Frasier considers Tower to be a personal (though not a professional) enemy because he believes (correctly) that Tower cheated him out of a victory in a high profile Starfleet war games exercise. Despite this Frasier is willing to work with Tower even though he generally wants something in exchange. For example in Episode #17, Fraser agrees to undertake an off the books mission on behalf of Tower in exchange for him approving an equally off the books unscheduled refit and upgrade for the Discovery

In addition to being a legendary football player, Frasier is also an avid and accomplished golfer.

    61) Tower is contacted by Captain Frasier about a member of their graduating class who disappeared years before. Triggering Towers painful (though unrelated) memories of his assassination of Cadet Number One and his prior relationship with her.

Wouldn't having a guy who was a star running back in the Academy be a black man be playing into a racial stereotype?
