Not better. Held to a higher standard. Because they are given enforcement power by the board owner.

Maybe it's not as much fun to not be able to go on personal vendettas as a mod, but it sure as hell is better for the board.

And of course the argument that posting opinions holds the same weight as engaging in rep war, as O2C maintains, is so inane that it seems like anybody but the staff understands it innately.

Saves screen space and allows people to indicate whether they agree or disagree, and there's a huge uproar every time the suggestion to get rid of it completely is entertained.
Because until one of the upgrades, moderators had unlimited reputation to dish out. You wouldn't like it if you could only post agreement or disagreement with posts 30 times per day while mods could do it any number of times. So mods were not allowed to do so, at least not in a systematic way. Would have been an abuse of privilege.

I remember making the same argument a year ago in the Shelter.

Kudos on the effective employment of your womanly wiles.

The most basic argument for allowing Mods to rep war is to deter rep wars against mods.

    I speak from experience.

Enforcement power which has absolutely nothing to do with rep.

But they CAN! As long as they keep it in the Red Room and Grey Room (where have we heard that before?... oh yes, in the policy on repwars) and don't allow it to interfere with their enforcement of the rules, they are quite free to roast someone on a spit after every single one of their posts.

I think you care way too much about what amounts to a toy or game and space saver and was never intended as anything else. Even at 30/day, people have reps larger than the rank pips can display. How much posrep is given out in the Green Room on posts that aren't really a matter of agreement or disagreement, but where the rep is instead given out as congratulations or appreciation for a joke? It's meaningless apart from its technical benefits. Even if that wasn't clear before, it should have been when people in the red were given the ability to post comments. Sorry you can't see that.

For a toy, people are ready to/have resigned over not being able to have it. So obviously it is important to some including mods.

Dunno, I'm straightforward. If someone is a twat, I invite 'em over to TK to duke it out properly. None of this lame "oh, I'll neg rep you back into the middle ages" rubbish.

You look at it that way.

I see it as them being the type of people who are here for fun and don't have a deep desire to keep wielding some imaginary power by being a mod.

Those type of people are who SHOULD be mods.

    Ah cruel paradoxes. :(

02C, you haven't understood a single thing I've said. You are a completely close minded individual that I've never seen listen to anyone you didn't already agree with.

I'll let you go back admining the board.

BTW, your name is perfect. The longer you make decisions like these, the more Chaos you'll get.

I find it amusing Demi spent days in this thread when we all knew Elwood wasn't going to simply change it back at the snap of a finger.

I look forward to all the mods negrepping him for his insolence. :borg:

Yes, since some people seem convinced (not naming any names, but one user is an anagram of bmark) that mods are going to start conspiring now to rage repwar against members if they raise an issue about policy.

We've had mods threaten others with personal information, or ignore it when their buddies decided to do so for the stated reason the poster they were attacking was 'betraying Elwood.'

Not a thing has happened to any of those mods.

    You do the math.

    Transgressions?

I still think a lot of mistakes have been made, both by members and staff.

Unless I'm only allowed to criticise staff now to be honest in your eyes?

You've have been acting like you're on the rag towards me specifically, and only since I accidently neg repped you. You even brought it up in this very thread what, twice? Which makes one wonder how much of a "toy" you people really consider it to be.

I bring it up because all I have heard from you the past few days is...

"MODERATORS SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO USE REP LIKE THAT"

"IT'S UNFAIR WHEN MODS USE REP LIKE THAT!"

"HOW WILL YOU KNOW IF MODS ARE USING IT UNFAIRLY!"

When you're going to be going on like that it's only fair to point out that some of the mods aren't just the only ones who need to grow the hell up.

I don't care about the rep, notice how I don't feel a need to play your neg revenge games? It's more the totally hypocritical stance. Or did you miss...

Again Bailey, calm down. I had no idea an accidental neg rep would damage your psychie so much that you have to go on about it endlessly. I'm sorry I hurt you.

I think we should just get rid of the rep system. Too many are getting hurt by it. It's time to end their pain.

Oh, and to weigh in, I think this reform is long past due. The timing may have been a mistake, but really, who cares? If it's something that should be done, why complain about the when and the how, now that it has happened? I'm sure the complaints in this thread will only make elwood question the next reform, rather than simply plow forward with it.

I've already said I don't care if you negrep me. Go right ahead on this post if you want.

To reiterate my own past position on rep, if it's that much of a burden on everyone, let's just get rid of it.
