Bought it off Steam. Thought about buying from amazon for $10 cheaper, but I didn't feel like waiting.
Stupid question. How do y'all get the skill points that lead to promotion? I've done all of Admiral Quinn's missions that my grade allows. The patrol and defend missions from Sulu are a lot of grinding work for very little reward (50 points). The exploration/scientific missions are longer in story but easier in challenge, but they offer the same reward. If I bump into an enemy in sector space or join an already existing furball, I get a lot of bridge officer skill points, but none for me. Per the progress chart, on my character screen, I need to earn and spend ~1,200 more skill points before Lt. Commander (out of a total of 6,700). That's going to take a week or more at 50 points per mission.
I noticed on the launch window that you can now give people a 5-Day buddy key. So for those that wanna try this out before deciding, just ask me, or I am sure anyone else who has the game would be willing to send you one.
Thank you much, Scorp. I'm now half-way through Lt. 10. One more mission and that should put me over the top. But, my ISP decided to shit the bed for thirty minutes before I could say goodbye.
Some of that stuff you got from that last Gorn fight was slightly eyebrow raising. Mk III stuff is semi-hard to get, and quite a few dropped there. You will have a pretty kick ass ship tomorrow! On another note, I am kinda rethinking the escort now. The weaponry is amazing on it, but the shields are lacking. I find myself dieing more now than when I was driving around in my Miranda. If I'm flying around by myself, usually the strategy involves flying slowly into the outer target and blasting away with torps and disruptors, then hightailing it out of there when the other 3 or 4 enemy ships eat my shields. Luckily the combination of evasive maneuvers, engine batteries and 'divert power to engines' at least allows me to escape most of the time, or I'd be dead a lot more.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Thanks to Darkening, Scorp, another friend, and one random Admiral that helped me out by one shot killing everything in my path, I'm now a Lt. Cmdr. with a shiny new Constitution-Refit Starship! USS Franklin. I don't recall the Registry Number and they shut the servers down for maintenance. Edit: I have a bunch of Mark II gear I can pass on to any new players.
I tried to mail some stuff to you, just some 1 and 2 phasers and photons and stuff, not sure if they came through...
I PMed a buddy key to henryhill. Do people who have a buddy key have to install Steam or can they download the game/demo from somewhere else?
http://www.rarityguide.com/forums/s...tar-trek-online-buddy-keys-now-available.html This indicates that the STO client can be downloaded from the website, and then activated with a buddy key. No need to use Steam.
Lt. Mal Reynolds on the U.S.S. Serenity. You got a job, we can do it. Don't much care what it is. I played from 9 to 3 in the morning last night nonstop! Will give more info when I'm at home later.
To get your friend or family member started, follow these steps: Give the buddy key above to your friend or family member Direct your buddy to activate the key at http://www.startrekonline.com/activate The game client can be downloaded at http://www.startrekonline.com/download
House agrees: How do you sit in the chair? Go to the chat screen and find the "emotes" section. You can play around with tons of things including several sitting options.
Oh and my other new ship the Ambush My updated uniform and my moody twat of a 1st officer. Oh and my Borg, not looking at her chest.
There's also a special "KHAAAAAN!!!" emote. Not sure if that was the special code posted above or the Digital Deluxe Edition. Not sure if I like this idea. I don't know what Beam Overload is, but as an escort, I think people are expecting me to do a lot of damage. That means setting the ship to attack priority and saying 'screw you' to defense. If it means dying more often, then I guess that might just be something us escort captains might have to live with. It seems Cruisers = tank, escorts = damage dealer, and science vessels = mage in this game. I also use 2 Heavy Disruptor Cannons mkIV, and have my two tactical consoles set to enhance cannons and disruptors. I can sometimes kill 3 Gorn frigates in one pass if I time my high yield torps properly.
I've got a heavy escort at the moment. Front weapons are disruptor beams, cannons and quantum torpedoes; rear are photon mines and phasers. I go head on with everything laying mines as I move in, then beam overload as I turn, which coincides with the mines hitting then another run head on. If you don't die as often you get more goodies and skill points.
My Cruiser is all VII Phaser beam arrays with one quantum torpedo launcher. The escort is three front dual pulse phaser cannons and a torp, the rear slots have VI beams to deal with following plasma torps.
There are some kicking around but the Galaxy is the best looking. http://suricatasblog.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/stoshiptierchart2.png
